Chapter 66: Overwhelming Effects

.

In one of the forests near the city of Qiyan,

the intense sounds of battle echoed, as a battered figure ran with all their strength toward the forest’s edge.

"Sht, why did it have to chase out of everyone?" he yelled, his voice a mix of panic and anger,

as he heard yet another tree behind him shatter like it was made of paper.

He was the young man in his twenties who had bought the talismans at the pavilion that afternoon.

He had simply planned to train by hunting a few spirit beasts in the forest near the city, and at first, everything had gone smoothly.

He had just started getting the hang of his new strength, so he decided to go after slightly tougher prey.

Luckily for him, this area of the forest was packed with beasts at the first and second stages,

so it hadn’t taken long before he ran into a few at the second stage.

He fought one and won.

so he decided to look for sothing even stronger.

He ca across a mountain boar, but unlike the usual ones, this one was as tall as half a grown man, and its strength was no joke.

A perfect opponent for him, right?

Nope!

Who would’ve guessed the boar had brought its mother along?

A mother already pissed off by so other cultivators earlier, and ready to unleash hell.

By so cruel twist of fate, he ended up the unlucky victim of all that rage.

He ran for his life, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t shake off the furious beast behind him.

His mind raced for a solution, and then it hit him.

He still had one attack talisman left.

"Tch, I didn’t want to use it like this," he thought, frustrated, but also painfully aware of how powerless he was right now.

He had bought three of those talismans in total, two defensive and one offensive.

Earlier, while hunting, he had already used the two defensive ones against the so second stage beast.

And the results were more than satisfactory.

At that ti, still skeptical about their quality, he had been cautious not to test them in overly risky situations.

Because if it turned out the talismans were defective or too weak, he would have to bear the consequences.

So he used the first one against an early second stage beast, and was not disappointed at all.

The defensive talisman had not only blocked the beast’s charge,

it also triggered a counterattack, severely injuring one of the beast’s limbs, making it easy for him to finish it off.

He was so impressed that he used the second one against a slightly stronger beast, one at the peak of the second stage.

And again, sa result, the talisman protected him beautifully and helped him bring the beast down.

He was excited.

Not only had he confird the quality of the talismans, but he had also made a good profit from those two beasts.

Not only could he recover the money he’d spent for those talsimans, he could even use one of their cores to boost his cultivation.

Everything was going great,

too bad for him that the second beast just had to be the son of that mountain boar mother ,

the one that triggered the chain of events leading to his current situation.

"Shit, I should’ve saved one of those defensive talismans," he thought,

realizing how much more useful that would’ve been in this situation compared to an attack one,

especially since he wasn’t even sure a First grade Spirit rank talisman would be enough to handle the beast.

If this talisman was as good as the others, it could give him a huge help in escaping this thing.

But if it wasn’t, then that was Ga over for him.

"I really hope this thing works," he muttered as he channeled so spiritual Qi into the talisman.

It began to glow yellow.

He turned around without hesitation, coming face to face with the boar,

which showed no signs of stopping and kept charging straight at him.

He didn’t release the talisman imdiately.

He waited.

Then, just as the beast entered within ten ters, his eyes sharpened,

and with a quick movent fo his hand, he hurled the paper talisman straight at the charging boar.

He didn’t want to miss, so he made a bold choice to wait until the beast was close enough to leave it no ti to react.

The talisman sliced through the air and, in an instant, struck the boar right on the forehead.

Only now did the beast even notice the small flying object.

Too bad that was the last thing it saw, as in the next mont,

BOOM!

A thunderous blast echoed through the forest, sending nearby cultivators into a panic.

"What the hell was that?!" asked a pink haired girl with braided hair,

frowning as she looked toward the direction of the explosion.

"I don’t know, but it’s better not to go that way,"

said a man in his thirties with a shaved head, eyes serious.

"The force of that blast... it was at least on par with a peak level third stage cultivator’s strike.

Let’s not get involved, or we might end up regretting it."

He wasnt wrong, and the young man who caused this thought the sa thing, as he stared at the scene before him.

"Heavens, wasn’t that a bit too strong?!"

he thought, alard, brushing bits of debris off himself.

The explosion had left a small crater at the impact site, and even though he’d been a fair distance away, he’d still taken so damage.

He looked ragged, with small cuts all over his body, but he didn’t care.

His eyes were fixed on the place where the third stage beast had once stood.

The area was a ss.

Besides so chunks of scorched debris, there was no trace of the beast’s body,

just scattered bits of burned flesh here and there.

He was so shocked by the sight that, for a mont, he wondered if he’d accidentally used a higher grade talisman.

His mind was in chaos. but soon sothing glimred among the scattered pieces of flesh, and he couldn’t help but take a few steps forward to get a better look.

Soon the object beca clearer, and at the sight of it, the surprised expression on the young mans face lit up as he staggered slightly, then ran towards it.

"Hahaha, this, this is a third stage beast core!" he shouted like a madman while holding a brown sphere in his hand.

A beast core like that could easily be worth dozens of low grade spirit stones, maybe even enough for a mid grade one.

With just this core, he had not only made back everything he’d spent on the talismans, but also made a massive profit.

He laughed with joy, not caring in the slightest about his cuts and bruises.

But after a while, he stopped, a new thought racing through his mind.

" Old Liu said the offer is only for today.

Damn, I need to hurry back inside and buy more before they run out," he muttered as he put the core away.

Unfortunately for him, plenty of others had already tested their talismans too, and had the exact sa idea.

Too bad for all of them, the big batch of talismans that would’ve normally taken days to sell, was already long gone,

and their creator had no intention of making more today.
