Chapter 1464: Chapter 1464: The ‘Clue’ from 5 Years Ago

Kewort Group Building

Ding—

The elevator opened, revealing a densely packed large office space, and a young man holding a tablet stood in front of the elevator doors, appearing in He Ao’s field of view.

“Manager, what happened?”

The young man looked at the man, showing surprise on his face.

“I took a fall. Are there any spare wristbands in the departnt? I haven’t finished a call.” The manager muttered impatiently, raising his head slightly to look at the young man before him.

“Yes,” the young man nodded quickly, “Should I get one for you?”

“No need, I know where it is, I’ll go myself,” the man said impatiently, quickly stepping out of the elevator, then he glanced at the young man, paused slightly, and asked with so confusion, “Where are you heading?”

“To submit reports to the director,” the young man quickly replied, showing the tablet in his arms, “The quarterly performance report of our departnt you instructed to be submitted earlier.”

“Alright, go and co back quickly.”

The man nodded, walking past the young man, carrying with him a slight unclean sll, towards a desk on the side.

The young man awkwardly entered the elevator, pressing the elevator button to illuminate it.

As the elevator doors closed, he watched the man delve deeper into the office, heading towards the interior small office.

And just then, he saw the man slip, rolling forward directly, flipping over, and falling forward, his head striking the corner of the adjacent desk.

Subsequently, his body trembled, and he directly fainted.

The female employee sitting in front of the table let out a panicked scream, and then a group of people rushed over, seemingly surrounding the man.

However, what happened next, the young man could not see.

But the corners of his mouth were slightly uncontrollable.

With the closing of the elevator doors, the elevator began to rapidly ascend.

The young man raised his wristband, starting to open entertainnt software to check the news on the trending list.

The top trend was, [Ains City Defense Army held a press conference, announcing the physical condition of last night’s hero who saved Ains]

He Ao stood beside him, gazing at this news.

It seems that the old director has realized sothing. Dealing with the old fox is troubleso, but during cooperation, it indeed saves a lot of effort.

The young man clicked on and skimd through this piece of news, quickly opening the next news.

Very soon, with a light ‘ding—’, the elevator opened.

The young man imdiately restored a calm expression, put away his wristband, and walked out of the elevator.

This appeared to be over the seventieth floor of the building, already close to the top floor. This floor no longer had open large offices but was instead a narrow corridor, divided into small offices by glass.

The young man swiftly walked through the corridor, and after several turns, reached a small office door.

He gently knocked, and upon getting permission, pushed the door open.

Inside was a lean man, appearing to be in his forties or fifties, with slightly graying hair, presently sitting at the desk reading so paper docunt.

“Director, this is our mining recruitnt departnt’s quarterly performance data.”

The young man quickly walked in and handed the tablet to the lean man.

“Alright, I got it,” the lean man received the tablet, casually placing it aside, “You can go back now.”

“Yes.” The young man nodded and exited the room.

At the sa ti, the lean man raised his hand, opened his computer, logged into the group intranet, and entered his account and password.

While typing the password, his hand shook, typing an ‘s’ instead of an ‘a’.

A password error ssage imdiately popped up on the computer.

He tried several tis, all with the sa result.

On the fifth attempt, a pop-up window erged, [Due to multiple incorrect password inputs, your account has been locked. Please contact the network departnt to unlock it.]

“What kind of stupid setting is this?” the lean man couldn’t help but curse at the computer in front of him.

Then he got up directly, opened the office door, walked a few steps along the corridor to a corner office door, and pushed it open.

In the instant of opening the door, his angry face turned into a smile, “Carlo, my account seems to be locked again, can you help unlock and reset the password?”

“How did it lock again,” Carlo inside the office replied impatiently, “Didn’t I tell you to write the password on a note and stick it on the monitor if you can’t rember it?”

“It’s the age, it happens,” the lean man said awkwardly, “When will our system upgrade to biotric recognition? It’s both accurate and eliminates forgetting passwords.”

“I’ve said it before, we don’t have the funds. The group’s code has accumulated over hundreds of years, and it’s like a pile of crap; modifying it isn’t that easy,” Carlo said impatiently, “I’ll sort it out for you now, you can go back first.”

“Alright.” The lean man closed the office door.

“Idiot.”

Carlo lowered his head, quickly opened the account managent interface, and found the lean man’s locked account.

He clicked to unlock it, and a window popped up asking for password verification.

He quickly entered his password.

[Password Incorrect]

He entered it again,

[Password Incorrect]

His face stiffened, and slight cold sweat beaded on his forehead.

After the fourth wrong password attempt, his face was already covered with fine sweat.

He hesitated, took a tissue to wipe his face, opened a computer beside him, and dialed a video call.

Soon, the call was connected.

“What’s going on?” A middle-aged man in glasses, wearing a white silk suit, appeared on the screen.

“Boss, has our administrator verification password been changed?” Carlo raised his head, carefully watching the middle-aged man.

“It hasn’t,” the man glanced at him, “Did you enter the wrong password?”

Looking at Carlo’s expression, he quickly said, “Turn the cara to the keyboard, I’ll watch you enter it again.”

“I’ve already tried four tis,” Carlo stiffened, “If I get it wrong again, it’ll be locked.”

“No worries, I’ll watch you enter it.” The middle-aged man said calmly.

“Alright,” Carlo took a deep breath, adjusted the cara to the keyboard, and started typing the letters and numbers one by one with his index finger.

This ti, after he completed typing, the screen flickered and entered the managent interface.

He exhaled a long breath.

“Enter it slowly next ti.” The man on the other end of the video looked at Carlo and said coldly.

“Yes, yes.” Carlo quickly nodded.

······

“Useless.” The man in the white suit closed the video, quietly cursing.

He looked at his computer in front of him.

At this mont, his computer was displaying a news webpage about Ains.

He Ao stood behind him, glancing at the surrounding decor.

This office was no longer surrounded by glass; instead, it had solid walls adorned with various luxurious decorations, and the office door appeared to be a fully solid wood door, engraved with various patterns, forming a luxurious grand entrance.

He Ao lowered his head, watching the actions of the man in the white suit in front of him.

He was browsing a report about the ‘disappearance case’ at Ains Airport last night.

“These guys, have they really disappeared?” He frowned slightly, pondering, “So now, under the board of directors, there are only a few high executives like us left?”

He placed his hand on the keyboard, lost in so kind of thought.

After a while, he finally reacted.

At this mont, he suddenly realized that he seed to have pressed the input box, entering a URL that looked like gibberish.

The webpage corresponding to this URL was completely blank, with nothing displayed, but the browser indicated that the file had been downloaded successfully.

“What the hell is this?”

He couldn’t help muttering, closing the webpage.

At this point, a pop-up appeared on the system’s security interface.

[The downloaded file may be risky]

[Delete (120)][Cancel]

It’s a two-minute countdown for deletion, if he’s idle, the file will be automatically deleted.

He raised his hand, ready to click delete manually.

Thump, thump, thump——

Just then, there was a heavy knocking sound at the door.

“Who is it?”

He looked up, a bit puzzled.

“Mr. Technical Officer,” a young female voice ca from outside, “The board of directors is holding an ergency eting right now and hopes you can attend.”

The man in the white suit’s eyes lit up, and he imdiately stood up, “Wait, I’ll be right there.”

He quickly walked to the door, lightly opening the office door, and stepped out of the office.

He didn’t even close the office door.

He Ao stood inside the office, watching the man in the white suit walk away, turning into a eting room not far away.

The board’s small eting room was on this floor, not far from this office.

However, He Ao didn’t leave the office. He raised his head, glanced at the corner of the office, and then continued to lower his head, looking at the screen in front of him.

At this mont, a file displayed as ‘compressed package’ was placed on the desktop of the computer.

The next mont, a young girl in a white dress appeared on the screen. She slowly approached the screen, widened her eyes, as if peeking through a glass window, and glanced outside the screen.

Once she confird that no one was outside, she slowly retreated, walked to the popped-up window at the bottom right of the screen, extended her fair little hand, lifted the window, shook it a bit, and clicked ‘Cancel’.

The entire window was then closed.

Soon after, the ‘compressed package’ standing on the desktop flickered and disappeared directly from the desktop.

The young girl in the white dress saw what she had done, crossed her arms, nodded, and then disappeared.

When the file was downloaded from the external network to the internal network, Eve in a certain sense had already ‘bypassed’ the firewall of the Kewort Group, and the only thing that needed to be solved was the security system related to this computer’s network.

The ‘security system’ of this computer handled small viruses easily, and was very ‘tight’ even for small hacker teams on the black market; but for Eve, it wasn’t ‘tight enough’.

For large network companies like Trison Communications, the internal and external network firewalls are integrated; it’s almost impossible to breach through such ans.

But evidently, the traditional mining company like Kewort didn’t have such a strong defense awareness.

He Ao stood by, watching the actions of the little girl on the screen with great interest.

Now Eve seed a bit more ‘agile’ than before.

The Nolanka Group always maintained a large software team to serve Eve, helping her iterate algorithms.

Of course, at the initial stage of the algorithm, Eve also possessed the ability to self-iterate algorithms, albeit not perfectly.

And accompanying the disappearance of the ‘little girl’ from the screen, the changes on the entire screen didn’t stop there.

An ‘icon’ showing the internal network drive was clicked open on the desktop, and soon an interface seed sowhat outdated popped up.

This appeared to be an interface for a drive administrator.

Soon, the search box of this interface was clicked open, entered ‘Vilorn’, and started searching.

This was Vigina’s brother’s na, which wasn’t a particularly common na, but not rare in the Federation.

Soon enough, hundreds of ssages with the sa na ca up in the entire search system.

Then, these hundreds of ssages flickered past, showing one information that had already turned gray.

It included a blurred photo, with ‘resigned’ and ‘deceased’ marked under the photo.

And below were the internal network account, internal network email, and internal network drive information.

On the drive information interface it was marked, [Drive usage 5%].

Seeing this information, He Ao sighed slightly in relief.

Even though so many years have passed, the Kewort Group still hadn’t deleted the files left by old employees in the group’s drive.

This old company’s advantage is that the ti period for processing junk files is longer than those of younger companies.

Of course, it might just be that as long as the system isn’t having issues, there’s no need for repair.

Ever since learning that Vigina’s brother had contacted Denor City’s forr Mayor, He Ao had been pondering where Vigina’s brother might have hidden the files.

By the ti Paxiu learned about Vigina’s brother’s death, he had already been cremated.

All belongings were rapidly handled by the Kewort Group.

Under such circumstances, the evidence of any matter was highly likely to be cleared, Vigina’s brother’s computer which probably was thoroughly searched as well.

Theoretically speaking, Vigina’s brother shouldn’t have been able to leave behind any data.

But for working so many years at the Kewort Group, Vigina’s brother should be sowhat familiar with the ans of the Kewort Group, and should also know that if eliminated, he couldn’t leave anything behind.

Yet if Vigina’s brother intended to leave sothing behind, it’s not impossible.

First is physical evidence. The only person Vigina’s brother could trust at the ti was Paxiu. If he were to hide evidence, it would likely be handed over to Paxiu, who has rich wilderness experience. As long as he entered the wilderness with evidence, Kewort Group would struggle to locate him.

But ‘Paxiu’ didn’t receive any physical evidence.

And according to the forr Mayor’s mory, Vigina’s brother rely contacted him briefly before dying shortly after.

This suggests that at the ti, the incident might have occurred suddenly, with Vigina’s brother not realizing he would be discovered, leaving no chance for physical evidence.

The second is virtual information.

Virtual information is convenient to handle, not even requiring intentional concealnt, just a backup prepared in advance.

But the problem lies in where Vigina’s brother would have ‘backed up’ this file, allowing it to possibly evade the Kewort Group’s search.

The answer might be simple: backed it up in the Kewort Group’s own ‘network’.

Hide information within work files, directly placing it within the group drive.

Based on Paxiu’s understanding of this ‘old friend’, He Ao deed it truly likely that he would do such a thing.

While He Ao pondered, the computer naturally, utilizing the technical officer’s permissions, opened Vigina’s brother’s corporate drive.

The last update ti of the drive halted five years ago.

Inside, most are work files, so reports, statistical analyses, reports, even weekly reports.

Eve swiftly searched through the file’s content, finally stopping on a ‘mining statistics analysis of Denor City’.
