Southern Los Angeles, in a community.
Luo An and Reesi slowly pulled the SUV to the side of the road, checked their equipnt, and then got out to walk towards Pearson's two-story apartnt.
Pushing open the gate, Reesi looked at the grass lawn on the ground and couldn't help but grin:
"Wow, looks like our Mr. Pearson is pretty rich."
Luo An didn't know much about lawns and casually asked upon hearing Reesi's remark:
"How so?"
"This is a very expensive type of lawn in Los Angeles City."
Reesi bent down and plucked a blade of grass:
"Setting up such a large lawn probably costs tens of thousands of US dollars."
"That certainly sounds rich."
Luo An grinned; although he had quite a bit of money now, he still wasn't used to the luxury, waste, and corruption that ca with the capitalist lifestyle of the rich in the federation.
Spending tens of thousands of US dollars on a lawn—Luo An had the money, but it didn't seem necessary to him.
As the two talked, they walked towards the front door of the apartnt. Just as Reesi's right foot stepped onto the entrance stairs, a gunshot suddenly erupted from inside the apartnt!
Bang!
"Fu-k!"
The abrupt gunshot startled both Luo An and Reesi.
After recovering from their surprise, Reesi's face changed, and she pulled out her pistol, ready to burst into the apartnt.
"Wait a second!"
But just as Reesi was about to step forward with her right leg, Luo An suddenly felt that sensation again, as if his buttocks were on fire, so he quickly reached out and grabbed Reesi.
Reesi's movent halted, and she urgently turned her head asking:
"What's wrong?"
"..."
Luo An's brow twitched. He had thought there were gunn nearby ready to attack the two of them, so he prepared to find cover with Reesi to hide.
But as Reesi withdrew her right leg, the burning sensation on his butt disappeared instantly. Luo An's mind raced, and he imdiately realized that sothing might be wrong with the apartnt.
Activating his "Emotion Perception," Luo An only sensed Reesi's panic in front of him, but he didn't feel a hint of emotion from inside the apartnt, neither the icy malice nor a warm fondness.
That ant there were no living people inside the apartnt, but there was sothing deadly.
In an instant, Luo An figured it all out. He tentatively stepped forward, felt the burning sensation on his buttocks again, and without saying another word, imdiately signaled Reesi to follow him to the back door of the apartnt.
Reesi was sowhat puzzled, but she had always trusted Luo An's judgnt when encountering enemies. So with a guarded posture, she followed closely behind Luo An.
Approaching the apartnt's back door, not feeling that burning sensation on his buttocks, Luo An let out a sigh of relief.
Thud!
Crash—
A punch shattered the glass, and Luo An reached in to grab the handle, gently twisting open the back door of the apartnt.
Seeing this, Reesi's mouth twitched:
"Luo An, this..."
Before she could finish, Reesi suddenly saw Luo An extend his finger towards the front door of the apartnt. She instinctively followed his gesture and in the next second, Reesi gasped sharply:
She saw that just below the handle of the apartnt's front door, soone had set up two booby traps!
If anyone broke into the apartnt, those two booby traps would explode instantly!
"Son of a bitch!"
Reesi swore loudly, thinking about how she almost just pushed through the door and into the apartnt, and a cold sweat broke out on her back.
"@*#%..."
Wiping the cold sweat from her forehead, Reesi looked into Luo An's eyes, filled with gratitude:
"Thank you, Luo An."
"Call Deputy Leader."
Luo An smiled, waving his hand dismissively, his thoughts returning to his previous "emotional perception" deduction that there was no one alive in the apartnt, yet gunshot sounds had erged, prompting him to proceed to the second floor of the apartnt in a cautious stance.
Seeing this, Reesi took another glare at the booby trap by the front door, then raised her pistol and closely followed Luo An.
Just stepping onto the second floor, Luo An's sensitive nose imdiately picked up a strong sll of blood.
After Reesi and Luo An checked back-to-back and confird that no one was hiding in the other rooms, Luo An stood by the door of the last bedroom, slowly pushing it open with his pistol raised.
A pungent sll of blood burst out from the room instantly, and the first thing Luo An and Reesi saw was a chair with its back to them, seated with a person with a bowed head.
The two approached the chair with guns drawn, and upon reaching it, they recognized the face of their target:
Pearson.
The cause of Pearson's death was a bullet hole in the forehead, with fresh traces of blood, likely from the gunshot they had heard earlier.
However, Luo An and Mona both noticed that the bullet wound in Pearson's forehead was unusual, implying that he had been shot in the head long before, and the recent shot was simply a supplentary one to the already existing hole.
Opposite Pearson, there was a table with a pistol on it, with a clever chanism set at the trigger:
If soone approached the front of the apartnt, a chanical device would lightly pull the trigger of the gun.
"And when hearing the gunshot from upstairs, besides passerby, personnel coming for investigation would first react by hurriedly breaking into the villa to check the situation.
Then, the booby trap at the front door would be triggered, and the visitors would be blasted to death. As most of the apartnt is wooden, the flas would also rise and instantly engulf everything..."
Luo An put away his Glock 18 and, looking at the chanical structure in front of him, clicked his tongue in amazent:
"A clever fellow, not only understanding chanical structures but also human psychology, a real talent."
"Mother Fu--r!"
Hearing Luo An's words, Reesi, who had just walked the line between life and death, soaking her back in cold sweat, burst into profanities. She wished she could now shoot the brains out of the person who designed this set-up.
"Give Forensic Science a call."
After Reesi vented a few sentences and her emotions stabilized, Luo An said with a smile:
"Let them co and process the scene.
There can't be many people capable of designing such delayed chanical structures in Los Angeles, and we might find the murderer pretty soon."
"OK."
Reesi nodded, pulled out her phone to make the call. After contacting Forensic Science, she hung up and after a few seconds of contemplation, she looked up and asked:
"Luo An, how did you discover those booby traps at the front door?"
"Intuition."
Luo An turned and left the bedroom, saying with a smile:
"I've always trusted my intuition."
Watching Luo An's receding figure, Reesi quickly followed, muttering to herself with pouted lips:
"Aren't won's intuitions supposed to be the most accurate... Is there sothing wrong with , or is it Luo An?"
Half an hour later, Forensic Science agents arrived at the scene, and they too broke into a cold sweat upon seeing the booby traps at the front door.
After expending a trendous effort to dismantle the chanical devices and booby traps in the apartnt, all agents from Forensic Science looked at Luo An with deep emotion and admiration in their eyes.
Luo An extended his hand and shook with the lead Forensic Science agent, saying with a smile:
"Thank you for your hard work."
"It's what we do."
After exchanging a few brief pleasantries, they drove back to the Jacob Federation Building together.
After returning to the Special Investigation Team's office area and before long it was ti to leave work, Luo An and his team mbers left and went their separate ways.
After buying so fruit and flowers with Mona, Luo An laughed and chatted as he returned to the rented apartnt.
Inserting the key, he opened the door, and as Mona stepped in with a smile, but the mont Luo An entered the room, his smile vanished, and his face darkened in an instant.
