"Of course, I’m afraid. However, I have no other choice because they have already decided to kill us." He said, a helpless and desolate look on his face which then turned into one of determination,

"Since we are going to die either way, I would rather die while trying to bring them down."

Saying this, he bowed gratefully, "Thank you, sir. Even if you can’t kill them, I would still be grateful to you because you have killed Tristen and others who had been keeping watch on us. Now, my mother and I can escape."

Max nodded in acknowledgent. Then, he patted his shoulder, "Don’t worry. I won’t let a single one of them live past today."

He then raised his head and glanced at his mother who was looking in his direction.

His eyes flickered when he saw that although she wasn’t as beautiful as his stepmother Emily and or his aunts, she had a pleasing appearance and that mature, motherly charm which he liked.

"I’ll also give you and your mother a path to survival." he said. "Now tell the last thing. Where are they?"

...

A minute later, Max, carrying the axe on his shoulder, walked into the next block which was occupied by the Scavengers.

He had left Noah and Naira at Nick’s place, not wanting them to get hurt.

As soon as he entered the main street of the block, he saw several people sitting in front of their houses in groups, talking and laughing.

So groups consisted of grown n—the scavengers—while others were of female and kids groups.

Max ignored the won and kids and focused his gaze on the n. There were twenty of them.

’Everyone’s out. How nice!’ He thought. Nick had told him that in this block, twenty scavengers lived, most of them had families.

As for the remaining 38, they occupied the next two blocks.

He lifted his gaze and looked at the other end of the street, his eyes flashing.

Initially, he had been worried that when he began the slaughter, they would escape from the other end, but...

’It’s as Nick told ... They have blocked the left side completely.’ He thought, seeing cars and furniture crowding the entrance. Then, there were layers of barbed wire.

While they had done it to remove the possibility of soone attacking them from both sides, this was going to help him.

"Huh? Who is that guy?"

With so many people out, Max was imdiately noticed and a young man, around 15, asked aloud while staring at him.

Hearing his voice, the chatter died down and everyone looked over.

When they saw Max was an unfamiliar face and was carrying an axe, the won gestured to the kids to co over to them while the n stood up, their brows furrowed.

"Who are you?" A man with a fresh scar on his face asked, picking up his axe. Others did the sa before they looked behind Max.

Since Tristen and others hadn’t brought him, nor did they alert them about him, they knew Tristen’s group might have t with misfortune and that Max was a hostile presence. So, they were imdiately ready to face Max and his companions.

Apparently, they believed that Max couldn’t be alone.

While they waited for his companions to reveal themselves, Max activated the [Discerning Eyes] and checked their levels.

Fifteen of them were level 4 and level 5 while the remaining five, including the scar-face, were level 6.

’Let’s start with them then.’ decided Max while he continued walking toward them at his normal speed.

When he was halfway to them, the won and the kids had entered their houses and were looking out from the windows while the scar-face and others stared at him, the brows furrowing tighter.

"Where are your people?" Scar-face asked after glancing at the left side of the street and seeing no one there.

"It’s just ." Max said, increasing his speed a little and soon he was just thirty ters away from them.

"Just you?" Scar-face and others clearly didn’t believe it, but seeing there was really no one else, Scar-face said, "Go, break his hands and legs. He’ll cooperate better then."

As soon as he said this, three level fives rushed out from their group, ruthless glints flashing in their eyes.

Da! Da! Da!

Arriving in front of him, they encircled him and attacked without any warming, their baseball bats and hockey slamming towards his hands and knees.

However...

Shua!

Katcha!

The sound of Max’s bones breaking didn’t ring out as everyone expected, instead, a crisp ’Katcha’ sound of sothing being sliced through echoed.

The next mont, be it the remaining 17 Scavengers, their families or the two attacking Max, everyone’s expressions froze and their pupils constricted because they saw Max casually pull back his axe and one of the three’s head shoot into the air.

Thud! Thud!

The next mont, both the head and headless body thudded to the ground, the sound causing everyone’s hearts to skip a beat.

"Ahhh! Kill—"

The remaining two snapped out of their montary daze. Shouting out loudly to hype themselves and to suppress their fear, they swung their weapons at Max.

However,

Swoosh!

Bang!

Max dodged their strikes with ease and swung the axe, the axeblade ripping into one of their skulls.

Shua!

At the sa ti, Max kicked the third guy in the gut, causing him to bend over.

Then,

Puchi!

Max pulled out the axe from the second guy’s head and smashed it down on his head, causing it to explode.

BANG!

Blood and gory brain matter splattered around, so getting on Max’s clothes and face too which he casually wiped while the two’s corpses fell to the ground.

Thud! Thud!

Hefting the bloody axe onto his shoulder with one hand, Max stepped forward. Then, looking into Scar-face’s eyes, he said, "They failed your task. Send others."

Scar-face and others had dark expressions on their faces.

When they heard his words, their anger exploded and everyone rushed towards him.

Max tightened his grip around the axe handle, took a deep breath and with a thought, he used the 10 Free Attribute Points, adding them into his [Physical].

[Physical: 76→86]

As pain surged throughout his body, he grunted and burst into a sprint, his figure almost blurring in everyone’s perception.

Bang!

Katcha!

Arrgghhhh!

Swoosh!

Thud!

...

As they watched the gory battle and watched one after another their husbands, and fathers fall beneath Max’s axe, terror seized the Scavengers’ family mbers’ hearts, their faces turning pale white.

"M-Mommy, wah! That bad guy... He killed father! Wahhh!" A five years old girl, who just saw Max punch his father and burst his head, cried out, her immature voice full of grief and hate.

Her mother buried her face in his embrace, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Shh! It’s just a bad dream. Sleep, baby. When you wake up, everything will be alright."

Just like them, others in their houses were also washed with grief and terror.

"Zakir..." A woman shook her son’s shoulder and said, "Hurry up. Go and bring other Scavengers."

Her son, previously shivering in fear, snapped back to his senses and imdiately rushed out of his house, running at his fastest speed. He knew if he didn’t hurry, by the ti he returned with others, his big brother would have died just like his father a minute ago.

Bang!

Katch!

Swoosh!

"Fuck—Arghghhh!!!"

...

Even while being surrounded by remaining seven Scavengers, fending off their attacks while injuring and killing them, Max noticed the boy running away, but his expression didn’t as much as ripple slightly.

When he had entered this block and saw everyone, he already knew that as strong as he was, it would be difficult for him to kill the 20 Scavengers while stopping their family mbers from escaping and alerting others.

The only reason he had managed to keep Tristen’s neighbors from escaping was because he had caught them off guard, mainly because save for Tristen’s trio, others had been inside their hos, and by the ti they realized what was happening, it was already late--he had finished killing them.

’Let’s hurry up.’ He thought, his gaze focusing. Imdiately, his movents beca more refined and his attacks beca tricky and more powerful.

Shua!

Katcha!

His figure flickered amidst them, dodging everyone’s strike before his axe ripped apart a man’s head, killing him.

"Spread out!!" Scar-face, though seriously injured, was still alive.

When he saw the boy run out of the street, his agitated mind cald down and he imdiately shouted out.

"We just have to hold—"

Swoosh!

BANG!

Before he could finish his sentence, an axe ca flying and smashed into his head.

Imdiately, his vision blanked out.

’I should have... kept my mouth... shut...’ This was the last thought he had before he fell to his knees, then to the ground, dead.

"Tsk!"

Max clicked his tongue in annoyance because he had killed him, his warning had been effective and everyone had spread out.

However...

His lips curved up, "Is that really a wise decision?"
