The lavish honeymoon suite where Li Chen and Zhang i consummated their marriage stood in stark contrast to the dark, sparse cell where Jiang Xiaolin sat alone.
In the dimly lit confines, the only object was an old television that had broadcast live footage of the opulent wedding she had tried so desperately to stop. Jiang watched with tears streaking down her hollow cheeks as the man she was infatuated with pledged his eternal love and devotion to another woman.
She had been so close to ruining it all.
But her twisted sche had been thwarted, help arriving just in ti. Now Jiang Xiaolin found herself imprisoned in this cramped, black cell on Li Yanyan’s estate, punishnt for her treacherous actions orchestrated by Li Chen’s powerful family.
As the broadcast shifted to scenes of the newlyweds’ first dance and radiant reception, Jiang Xiaolin crumpled against the bare wall in despair. She had thrown away her life, her freedom, all for an insane fantasy of being with Li Chen, a man who had never so much as looked at her that way.
What hopes and dreams she had carefully constructed over their years as acquaintances, nurturing her one-sided fixation behind his back, all ca crashing down this night. Jiang’s face contorted in anguish as Li Chen gazed upon Zhang i with naked adoration, whirling her around the dance floor like a princess in a fairytale.
As the footage continued with the elegant couple being showered in well-wishes and gifts, Jiang’s grief soured into bitter rage. Enraged screams of denial tore from her throat as she hurled herself towards the television, pounding on the glass with her fists until her knuckles bled.
When the broadcast finally cut to black, Jiang Xiaolin collapsed in a heap, cradling her bruised and bloodied hands as ragged sobs wracked her trembling fra. In her solitary confinent, she could do nothing now but let the consequences of her dangerous fixation slowly drive her mad.

The opulent Jiang family villa was a stark contrast to the dark cell where Jiang Xiaolin was being held. In the luxurious living room, Mada Jiang paced anxiously, having just returned from Li Chen and Zhang i’s lavish wedding.
"Where could she be?" Mada Jiang fretted, staring at her phone as she tried Jiang Xiaolin’s number again, only to be t with silence.
Her son, Jiang Xiaojing, looked on with concern. "Don’t worry, Mom. Xiaolin is probably just off sowhere, heartbroken. She’ll co ho when she’s ready."
But Master Jiang shook his head gravely. "This behavior is unlike her. Even if she was upset, Xiaolin would have at least called to let us know she wouldn’t be attending the wedding."
A gnawing sense of dread twisted in Mada Jiang’s stomach. She and her husband had noticed their daughter’s unhealthy obsession with Li Chen growing over the past weeks, but had dismissed it as a harmless infatuation. Surely Xiaolin hadn’t done anything rash?
Sinking onto the plush sofa, Mada Jiang’s hands wrung together fretfully. "I have a terrible feeling sothing is very wrong. Xiaolin isn’t answering her phone or returning our ssages."
Master Jiang placed a comforting hand on his wife’s shoulder. "Let’s not borrow trouble yet. We’ll give it until morning before taking any drastic steps."
But his assurances did little to settle Mada Jiang’s mounting worry. Though desperately hoping for the best, she knew that her daughter’s obsession may have driven her to do sothing unthinkable.
As the rest of Shanghai’s elite reveled in the joy of the Sun-Zhang wedding celebrations, the Jiang family could only wait in tense silence, dreading the potential fallout of their daughter’s unhingent. A foreboding cloud had descended over their household, and Mada Jiang feared the storm was yet to co.
Mada Jiang’s heart sank as a wave of regret washed over her. In a mont of exasperated venting about her daughter’s hopeless infatuation with Li Chen, she had made an offhanded comnt that perhaps if Jiang Xiaolin managed to be intimate with him, he may call off the wedding to Zhang i.
At the ti, it had been an idle, facetious remark - a mother’s frustration at her child’s unrequited obsession boiling over. Mada Jiang had never imagined Jiang Xiaolin would actually attempt sothing so unthinkable and unforgivable.
But now, as the hours ticked by without a word from her missing daughter, a sickening pit ford in Mada Jiang’s stomach. What if Jiang Xiaolin had taken that careless comnt as perverse encouragent? The thought of her daughter potentially trying to compromise Li Chen or sabotage his wedding day made Mada Jiang feel ill.
Jiang Xiaojing watched helplessly as his mother dialed Jiang Xiaolin’s number over and over, the phone ringing unanswered into the tense silence. Mada Jiang’s hands shook, her face etched with regret and fear over what horrendous acts her daughter may have committed in her deluded state.
"This is all my fault," Mada Jiang whispered, anguish lacing her words. "I never should have said such a thing, even in jest. What terrible ideas might I have planted in her mind?"
Master Jiang pulled his stricken wife into an embrace, trying to offer what little reassurance he could. "You can’t bla yourself, dear. Xiaolin’s...condition was already beyond our control."
But his words fell on deaf ears as Mada Jiang spiraled deeper into self-recrimination. If her daughter had been caught by Li Chen’s influential family while attempting to disrupt the wedding or accost the groom, the consequences could be disastrous for them all.
The Jiang’s wealth and status in Shanghai high society would offer little insulation against the wrath of the Sun family if they perceived an attack on their prized heir. A shudder passed through Mada Jiang as she imagined Jiang Xiaolin being made an example of, punished severely for any transgressions.
Clutching her phone like a lifeline, Mada Jiang could only pray that her daughter would make contact soon, putting an end to this torturous uncertainty. But the ominous silence seed to stretch endlessly - a damning absence that allowed her mind to race into increasingly frantic assumptions about Jiang Xiaolin’s fate.
Jiang Xiaolin huddled in the corner of her bare cell, body trembling with fear and regret. She had no concept of how long she’d been imprisoned in this dark hole, left alone with only her tornted thoughts for company.
A harsh buzz of the lock chanism made her flinch. The door swung open, revealing the imposing figure of Ren Zirui backlit in the hallway. He entered with his hands clasped coolly behind his back.
"Miss Jiang..." His voice was clipped and devoid of warmth. "You know where you went wrong?"
Jiang Xiaolin shrank back against the wall. "Please sir, let go. It was a foolish mistake," she pleaded desperately.
Ren Zirui remained unmoved. "Do you know where you went wrong?" he repeated, enunciating each word.
Tears streaked down Jiang Xiaolin’s hollow cheeks as she dropped her head. "Drugging Li Chen," she whispered hoarsely.
"Wrong," Ren Zirui countered sharply. "Kidnapping Zhang i was your greatest sin."
Jiang Xiaolin’s head snapped up, eyes wide with a flicker of hope. "I will never do it again, I promise!"
But Ren Zirui simply shrugged, signaling to the guard who had accompanied him. "Hold her down."
"No, please!" Jiang Xiaolin cried out, terror gripping her as the burly guard pinned her struggling body to the cold floor.
She scread frantically, begging for rcy, convinced this was the mont she would be executed for her transgressions against the Sun family. Through the panic clouding her vision, she watched in horror as Ren Zirui withdrew a vial and syringe.
But rather than delivering a fatal injection, he coolly rolled up her sleeve and administered whatever was in the mysterious vial. Jiang Xiaolin’s eyes slamd shut, her body instantly going limp against the unforgiving concrete.
When she finally ca to, the guard and Ren Zirui were gone, the only evidence of their visit the angry pinprick on her arm. Curling into a ball, racking sobs tore from Jiang Xiaolin’s chest as she clutched at her disheveled clothing.
What cruelty was this, sparing her life yet leaving her in this psychological tornt? She berated herself for her insane infatuation with Li Chen, a man she barely knew. How could she have allowed herself to spiral so far into delusion that she would actually kidnap Zhang i in a vain attempt to sabotage the wedding?
Most incomprehensible of all was Li Chen’s apparent instantaneous love and devotion for Zhang i, a girl he had known for barely a month before making her his wife.
Questions and recriminations battered her feverishly until she could barely catch her breath between sobs. As the drugs surged through her system, Jiang Xiaolin feared her sanity was the next casualty being taken, leaving her a hollow, sunken wreck until her torntors decided her ultimate fate.
