Doctor Mu blinked. "I do not need to see it with my eyes to know that it is possible. We watch sci-fi movies all the ti and see such creatures."
"Do you miss the part where it says the movie is a work of fiction?" she scoffed.
The doctor pushed himself forward abruptly and raised his voice. "Who says that it is a work of fiction? Surgery was once thought to be fiction. Space ships were once thought to be fiction.
Habitable planets in space were once thought to be nonexistent. All those things have been proven to be true. Why can’t the sa be said of six ard aliens.
Haven’t you watched Whiskers ten?"
"The cartoon!" Chi Lian exclaid. Her phone slipped from her hands.
"Imagination does not an fiction." Doctor Mu said like a crazy zealot that believed his own words. "It is too detailed to be a simple cartoon."
"Okay, you are not all sane up here." She tapped her temple.
Spider handed her so photographs and she exposed them to the doctor. "Say sothing if you recognize any of these people."
One by one, the photographs were raised, fifteen in total and the doctor did not say anything.
"He knows three, five and fourteen." She said.
Doctor Mu’s mouth fell open. "I did not say anything. How did you know?"
"Because I am the smartest person in the room." She replied smugly.
Next, she interrogated the rest of the doctors and nurses. For so, it was all about science and for others, it was about easy money, as long as they put their morals away and turned a blind eye to what has happening.
Then ca the cleaning crew. Most were people that owed debts to loan sharks or casinos. They had been kidnapped and forced to beco workers on the island.
Lastly were the guards, one of whom was a singer who had once been a fan favorite but fell from glory after making the switch to acting and getting involved in a couch casting scandal which ended all his careers.
"Lu Dechuan!" Spider shouted.
He was trying to hide his face, but it was useless as everyone recognized him.
"I was told that we were filming a sci-fi film." He blurted out. "They said the blood was fake and everything else was prosthetics and CGI. All I wanted was to make a co back. I did not think it was real and they were killing and experinting on real people!"
"Save that for your lawyer." Chi Lian waved her hand.
When the sun started rising, they all erged from the hatch. Chi Lian was the last out and she locked it firmly. Then, she stood near it and took a deep breath.
The night had been a long one. But at least, they had the answers that they had co seeking.
She walked forward and climbed the ladder which led to the submarine roof where Spider was waiting for her. They were lowered inside and that hatch locked itself.
Inside the submarine, she went to the heart where the command center was. The Emperor Eritus was waiting for her there.
She ripped off her mask and collapsed in the chair opposite his.
"Long night?" he joked.
She gave him a contemptuous side eye. He had been comfortably resting in the submarine while she she led a team that did all the hard work and then personally interrogated everyone. Of course it had been a long night.
He chuckled. "It looks like we owe you and Mingzhe again."
"I am accumulating goodwill for my granddaughter Mingzhu." She replied. "When she marries into your family, you better treat her right. If she doesn’t marry into your family, you will pay her the cash equivalent of my services. My bill for this mission is twelve million."
"So, which one of the idiots in my family is responsible for this ss." He said.
She took three photographs from the inside of her bullet proof vest and handed them to him. "Prince Long Bo and Lord Mu Shengxie. I have already inford the Empress Mother and she is trying on a black dress as we speak."
He lowered his head and closed his eyes for a mont.
She could see the disappointnt he did not want to show. It had been his hope that his family was not involved in the ss. But, Chi Lian had been sure that there was an insider that had been pulling the strings.
For one, the operation of the lab and their agenda was fifty percent similar to that of the island. But, only a small number of people knew about Sword island. So mbers of the royal family, the team that had been involved in destroying it and the survivors.
Two, more than knowledge, one needed a lot of money and resources to put together such a lab and operate it for years under the radar. Among those that knew about the island, only a handful of people were capable of that.
It made more sense to her that a royal was involved. Maybe not fully but partly. Perhaps as an advisor or an investor.
It had not co as a surprise to her that Long Bo was involved. He was the worst tomato in the royal bunch. Others were scheming here and there abut he was capable of very bad things.
The Emperor Eritus sighed. "In every generation, there is always that one royal relative that is not satisfied with just being royal, having money and doing charity work or an actual real job."
"If you need a plan to get rid of them, I will not be involved in it. This submarine is heading to Australia to drop off such that I can enjoy the rest of the week with my family on our annual vacation." She shared with him.
Spider stopped by and gave her a mango salad and a mango cinnamon margarita.
The submarine shook and the margarita spilled.
"What is that?" The Emperor Eritus asked.
Chi Lian answered with a smile, "A whole lot of C4. There is no way I was going to leave the structure standing so I blew it all up."
He turned to the screen which was showing real ti images of the island. The cliffs had been leveled to match the beach. There was a plu of dark smoke in the sky.
Birds were flying away from the forest.
"When places like that remain standing, sotis soone else picks up where the other one left off after a while. Or a serial killer turns it into his or her layer." She shuddered. "It is best to destroy it all and leave nothing to chance. We should monitor the sea this side closely just to make sure that there are no surprises left." She closed the salad without taking a bite. "Wake up when we are at one of the fun nude beaches in Australia, your highness."
