After putting away the eggs safely, they continued to other labs, following trails of gas that signified others had been there ahead of them. And that was how they ca across an enclosure that had the other mbers of the team that found it first befuddled.

It held prisoners-forty one humans, emaciated but alive. It was obvious at first glance that they were experintal subjects. They all had scars, so strange, so healed and others fresh.

Three had eyes that glowed and one man had feathers growing out of his arms and legs.

"I told you this was Sword Island 2.0." Spider said to Chi Lian.

"Ma’am, what are we going to do about them?" Soone asked her.

Chi Lian looked at the humans who were exuding a lot of fear. They were afraid of the people pointing guns at them. They knew what they looked like now__monsters! and monsters did not belong outside on the human society.

They had been turned into freaks that would live in the dark for the rest of their lives.

"Get the dical team here." Chi Lian barked into her microphone. "And soone bring the person in charge and all the other unethical doctors."

One instruction was delivered to the submarine waiting in the water and the other to the agents on the mission with her.

She did not have to wait long. Three soldiers brought a man in a lab coat and the giant head of a snake. The man was struggling against their hold, squirming each ti, the snake head was brought close to his face.

"Is that Yama the snake?" she asked.

"Yes ma’am." One of the soldiers replied and lifted the head. "We tossed the rest of the body in the incinerator and poured corrosive acid and powder in the water in case the snake had snake-lings."

"Good." She nodded. "Search their computers and find all shipnts that have left this place. No matter where they delivered anything to in the world, we must find what they created and destroy it."

The n distributed themselves while the lab director was pushed on to his knees before Chi Lian.

While Spider unfurled a chair for her, she turned the man to look at the humans he had experinted on. They were looking at him wit loathing like they wished to rip off his neck.

"Dr. Mu Renjie I presu?" She said as she sat down.

Spider suddenly spun, doing a perfect round kick to the head of the doctor. Not finished, he hauled the man by the foot and dangled him in the air with his head brushing the floor.

"Put down!" he cried. "I am an elite scientist who works for the empire."

"What you are is under arrest." She told him.

"For what? We are just advancing evolution! Na one scientific achievent in history that was accomplished without making a few sacrifices." He shouted.

Chi Lian scratched her ear.

"Na one dicine that did not require human testing." He scread. "How do you think surgery ca to be? We had to cut into humans in order to discover the lengths that we could go to."

"You made feathers grow out of a man." Spider scoffed. "What disease were you trying to heal?"

"We were trying to turn man into an angel." He said and cried out as Spider banged his head on the floor.

With one brutal kick to the doctor’s stomach, Spider snapped, "So you were trying to play God with chicken DNA!! You are lunatics that bring sha to science."

Soldiers brought more doctors, nurses and other mbers of staff like guards and janitors. So were awake and others were passed out. All of them were handcuffed before or after being thrown before Chi Lian.

dics and soldiers made their way into the enclosure to start treating the unlucky victims. A female imperial soldier had been calming them down all this while, explaining that the team had co to save them.

It took about an hour and forty five minutes to examine and sedate them before they were transported out.

More imperial soldiers poured into the lab, scouring every inch of it, gathering data and evidence.

anwhile, Chi Lian turned the now empty vault into an interrogation room. It had been cleaned out by a clean up team of imperial soldiers. Not just emptied but cleaned with a mixture of acid, bleach and soap. This was necessary so as not leave alive even the tiniest abnormal experintal creature or cara.

Other than the sll of cleaning products, it there was a whiff of mango and vanilla. Like the vault had been sprayed with a perfu or air freshener.

There were four people in that vault now. Chi Lian, Spider, a royal agent and an imperial soldier. All four people had kept their masks on.

The lab director was brought inside and forced to sit on a chair across Chi Lian.

"Let’s begin with sothing simple," she said. "How long have you been working here?"

"Six years." Doctor Renjie answered.

"What do you know about the eggs?"

Spider cleared his throat.

Chi Lian rolled her eyes. "Where did the ancient DNA of creatures that died out millenniums ago co from?"

"I don’t know." He whispered. "It was delivered by so n that looked like rcenaries or grave robbers. My job was not to ask questions. It was to label the samples, assign them to different doctors and supervise all experints."

"How much success have you had?" She asked.

"Zero." He glared at her. "You have killed everything we had here so all we have done does not count anymore."

"Why were you experinting on this? What was the end goal?" She asked.

"Success." He blinked. "I am a doctor, all I cared about was the success. Everyone in my field wants their na to go down in history but making notable scientific achievents has beco harder and harder. Technology is advancing rapidly but our science is falling behind.

If we can have smart robots, self-driving thinking cars, flying cars, a ho in space...." he heaved, eyes bulged like they were set to explode. "then why can’t we have humans that can fly?

Why can’t we have half humans and half dragons? Why can’t werewolves be real?

The race to becoming a superior will be lost if nobody takes the reins and dares to walk in the gray areas of science.

Think about it. If we eventually succeed in building a ho for humans in space, how will we cope when superior races attack us? We have two arms and we cannot fight things with four or six arms!!"

Chi Lian laughed. "Crazy fool. Have you seen such aliens anywhere other than on television?"
