Capítulo 1850: Chapter 159: The Fall of the Emperor

Without receiving more effective information, like many governors, Hudson could only hurry towards the Imperial City.

Under normal circumstances, the Emperor’s passing would directly allow the Crown Prince to ascend the throne, but now the situation is different; the Prince is too young.

Theoretically, Caesar IV’s son is the first in line to the throne, but on the Continent of Aslante, there’s another saying: the state relies on a mature ruler, and the throne passes from elder brother to younger sibling.

There is even a precedent in the history of the Alpha Kingdom!

Undoubtedly, such an overturn of the succession order is not what the Monarch voluntarily desires, but rather sothing forced upon him.

In the last court eting, Caesar IV explicitly stated: the throne would be inherited by his young son, and he also nominated five Auxiliary Ministers.

Unfortunately, it was opposed by the Conservative Faction, and the appointnt of the Auxiliary Ministers did not pass, creating variables.

If soone in the Royal Family harbors intentions and gains the support of many courtiers, bypassing the succession order supported by the saying “the state relies on a mature ruler,” such an ascent would also be legitimate.

In this context, if Caesar IV wants his son to ascend smoothly, he can’t afford a muddled death; he must announce his will in front of the courtiers to garner more supporters.

Fortunately, it’s a ti of peace; had it been a chaotic era, even the Emperor might not have been able to ensure his son’s ascension according to his wishes.

“How is Your Majesty’s health?”

Hudson asked concernedly.

Compared to the nurous governors, his arrival as a Dragon Knight was much faster. At this mont, civil and military officials of the court, as well as the Nobles and royal dignitaries of the Imperial Capital, had gathered in the Imperial Palace.

Most of them are not qualified to approach the Emperor. Even the will is news passed through hands, yet it doesn’t dampen everyone’s enthusiasm.

“Marshal, His Majesty is in a coma, and his life is sustained only by a potion. Once he wakes, he will have reached the end of his life…”

After hearing the Palace Minister’s response, Hudson nodded slightly.

He is aware of how dire Caesar IV’s condition is. Nearly a year has passed since expelling the curse, and now reaching the end of life is a natural progression.

This whole affair can only be attributed to the masterminds behind the scenes. Alpha the First is dead, yet the puppeteer behind the scenes hasn’t surfaced.

The establishnt of the Alpha Empire posed a threat to many forces. Provoking internal strife within the Empire beca a common choice for many factions.

There are just too many suspects with motives and ans to orchestrate all this, making any investigation nearly impossible.

Not only was Caesar IV targeted, but Alpha the First as well. Hudson even suspects that Alpha the First might have been targeted earlier than Caesar IV.

However, to sche against a Sanctuary Powerhouse requires different thods. Direct use of a curse would surely be detected imdiately, necessitating more covert ans.

For example: arranging soone to join Alpha the First and subtly sow discord. Once or twice might not matter, but over ti it certainly creates an impact.

Or perhaps other secretive thods.

According to Hudson’s knowledge, during the last Sanctuary war, Alpha the First was severely injured and nearly perished on the battlefield.

However, discussing all this now is aningless. Anyway, the persons involved are already dead, and the mastermind behind the scenes got what they wanted.

Internal conflicts within the Empire have indeed been stirred up. Beneath the seemingly stable situation, an undercurrent has long been surging.

The Conservative Faction holds a predominant position, while other factions rely endure temporarily, which doesn’t an they accept defeat willingly.

With the resurgence of the wave of annexation, the conflicts between Major Nobles and small and dium Nobles have also beco increasingly sharp.

Even though everyone got a taste during this wave of annexation, the trust established during warti has already dissipated.

Besides these conflicts, the Empire also hides a primary contradiction: the lower and middle Nobles who did not gain enough during the expansion want the Empire to continue expanding outward.

In the short term, voices favoring war can be suppressed. But the damages caused by war are significant, leading to a very grim dostic economic situation in the Alpha Empire.

If the economic issues persist unresolved, they will inevitably transform into political problems, eventually leading the Empire to a path of no return.

The territory swapping gas the major Nobles play is essentially digging a pit and laying mines. Relocating from developed lands to deserted grasslands will lead to the bankruptcy of many small Nobles.

In recent months, the performance of the Near East Developnt Bank has soared, and the lending difficulty of other comrcial banks has significantly decreased, indicating nurous issues.

In theory, Noble loans are secured with land as collateral, so safety is not a concern.

However, reason tells Hudson that every entity or individual has a limit to their debt capacity. Once the threshold is reached, an outbreak will occur.

In fact, the wave of Noble bankruptcies should have erupted long ago. Making it last until now is thanks to the ergence of banks, providing them a financing channel.

Delaying the crisis by accruing debt can only go so far. Suddenly, Hudson found himself quite panicked, realizing he has inadvertently beco the biggest creditor of the Empire’s Nobles.

Even worse, the loans extended by the Near East Developnt Bank are primarily leveraged through printing Gold Tickets, continuously piling up.

Due to war, substantial dostic wealth has flowed abroad. The currency in circulation within the Alpha Empire is overall insufficient.
