Chapter 221: 221 Chapter 221: 221 The dim yellow sun, already reaching the sea level, was descending at a pace barely perceptible to the naked eye. Its orange glow enveloped the various-sized villas along the coastline, giving a sense of imminent vanishing. The distant sea sparkled, reflecting bits of the sunset’s light, syncing oddly well with the frequency of the bushes undulating on the hillside with the breeze—creating an exceptionally harmonious feeling.
“When I encountered anything upsetting and didn’t want to talk about it with my family, I used to drive here. Sotis I ca with my best buddy Crow, but more often than not, I was alone. Looking at these beautiful scenes, those unpleasant things would slip my mind unconsciously,” Adrian said softly, holding a bottle of soda, leaning against the windshield and sitting on the hood of the car while looking at the scenery at the foot of the hill.
The silver Maserati was parked on a hillside facing the sea outside the road, offering a magnificent view.
Julia, similarly leaning against the windshield and sitting on the hood, though a head shorter than Adrian and with her shoulder embraced by him, sipped the soda silently. She was dressed in a simple T-shirt and jeans, her wavy hair cascading over her shoulders, complenting the scenery before her perfectly.
“Why don’t you share how you’re feeling?” Adrian asked, turning toward Julia after a few seconds.
“Uh… it is indeed beautiful,” Julia hesitated, shrugged her shoulders, then quickly added, “Very beautiful.”
“Please, Julia, that’s not sincere at all,” Adrian sighed, seemingly regretting expressing his feelings.
“Then what do you think I should say?” Julia asked, placing the bottle on her bent knees and eting Adrian’s gaze noncommittally.
“At least, you could say sothing like ‘Wow, that’s nice’ or ‘Yes, Ed, I really like it,'” Adrian mocked, his voice strained and expression exaggerated, which instantly made Julia burst into laughter. But then her expression darkened, and she sighed heavily, “Can we not do this, Ed?”
Seeing the confusion in Adrian’s eyes, Julia sat up and took a deep breath, “Stop trying to cheer up like this, stop sweet-talking , Ed, it only makes …”
“Makes you what?” Adrian’s gaze turned intense, he reached out and pulled her close to him.
“Are you even listening to ?!” Julia stared back at him, her voice fierce.
“Of course I am, so…” Adrian shrugged and then leaned in to kiss her lips.
Muffling her cries and kicking gently, Julia finally relented, exchanging kisses with Adrian.
“It’s truly unforgettable,” Adrian said with a twinge of lancholy after leaving her lips but then bent down to kiss her again.
“I knew it… Ed, you bastard, I can’t believe I actually trusted you again,” Julia turned her blushing face away bitterly, clearly regretting getting into his car again.
“I never said I couldn’t kiss you,” Adrian laughed, sniffing her cheek and then suddenly asking, “Do you rember the first ti we t, Julia?”
Julia closed her eyes, turned her head, and remained silent.
“You were in a V-neck black evening gown and bumped into completely, I even rember you were wearing Lancô’s Tresor perfu back then, which you switched to Chanel after my suggestion and continued till now,” Adrian chuckled, “You know, the mont I first saw you, I had a vague idea, which beca clearer after we were alone following last year’s Oscar Awards gala.”
Pausing to emphasize his persuasion, Adrian then continued, “I told myself, I have to make her a unique presence in Hollywood!”
“You… what did you say?” Julia’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“I said,” Adrian stared into her eyes, “I have to make you a unique presence in Hollywood, Julia!”
“A unique… presence?” Julia’s lips twitched as if she wanted to laugh, but under Adrian’s serious gaze, she couldn’t.
“Like, commanding a $20 million salary per film; like, becoming a representative of independent won in Hollywood; like, winning the Oscar for Best Actress,” Adrian whispered into her ear.
Julia shivered slightly, then incredulously looked at Adrian, “A $20 million salary? A representative of independent won? An Oscar for Best Actress? You’re… kidding, Ed.”
“Do you think I’m joking, Julia?” Adrian suddenly straightened up, his chin lifted, his domineering stance almost rendering Julia speechless.
“Rember when I initially asked you to play in ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral,’ what I told you? The character was originally a frivolous woman with no discretion, but I thought of your Vivian, thought of my vision for you, so I ultimately revised the screenplay. Indeed, my decision was correct; even though post-production of the movie isn’t finished yet, I believe it will be hugely popular.”
“But… but…” Julia struggled to speak.
“I know what you’re thinking, Julia,” Adrian said with a light laugh, his fingers playfully lifting the girl’s chin, “but I want to ask, who else my age has accomplished what I have?”
Julia fell silent. There were indeed many directors and producers more talented than Adrian, but how many had achieved this much by 25? There were also many better at running dia companies, but again, how many had these achievents at 25? Although Adrian had never told anyone, Julia knew through so connections that he was the chairman of AC dia.
And how many had achieved both by the age of 25? Think about his title, Miracle Director. What did that an?
Although Julia kept telling herself to stay calm, what could she do even if she cald down? Would calming down stop her from being moved by Adrian’s words?
“Look at this beautiful scenery, Julia.” Adrian then looked towards the vast ocean below the mountain. Unbeknownst to them, the sun emitting an orange glow had already set, leaving only the fiery clouds turning the gray sky bright red.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it? Impressive, but it will eventually disappear,” Adrian sighed. “Although we can see it again tomorrow, it will be different. Not everything repeats itself, so everyone wants to leave their own unique mark, right?”
He said and looked at Julia, who was nestled in his arms. She stared at the undulating white coastline and the luxurious detached villas, murmuring after a long while, “I… I…”
She wanted to show her toughness, but Adrian didn’t give her a chance. Pinching her chin, he leaned in and kissed her rosy lips again. Although Julia initially struggled, just like before, she involuntarily relaxed after a mont.
The sea breeze brushed gently, rustling the swaying bushes. Under the dim sky still glowing with the sunset, a man and a woman embraced, kissing on the hood of a car parked on the hillside, like a beautiful painting.
So things are actually quite simple, driven by emotion and tempted by benefits—especially for won who already have inner conflicts. There might be saints in this world who live for others and not for themselves, but definitely not in the entertainnt industry.
Adrian and Julia kissed passionately on the hillside for a long while, and after much sweet talk, she felt much better. They finally left as the sky turned completely dark. Then they went to a restaurant for dinner, strolled around a bit, and Adrian drove Julia ho—regrettably, because she had been through a lot today and decided not to join Dennis’s party.
Adrian didn’t plan to stay overnight at Julia’s place either. There’s no rush; let her digest things first. Of course, after so much effort, a small perk was deserved, but sotis joy could turn to sorrow too quickly.
A police siren blared once, then the car lights flashed twice. Amidst the thrilling pleasure, Adrian, who was gasping for air, suddenly beca alert, quickly slowed down the car, and said in a low, urgent voice, “There’s police!”
Julia, flustered, sat up, a slight blush on her face as she adjusted her clothes and hair, then sprayed so mint mouthwash into her mouth. After glancing back, she asked nervously, “They… they didn’t see us, did they?”
“They probably didn’t. Don’t worry,” Adrian reassured, zipped up, and then pulled the car over to the curb.
“Sir, could you please show your driver’s license?” A white police officer in his thirties got out of the police car, walked up to Adrian’s vehicle, and knocked on the window.
“Sure,” Adrian rolled down the window and passed his license over, “Is there a problem?”
“Your car was swerving a bit on the road,” the officer said as he looked over the license. “Would you mind stepping out of the car?”
He was polite, clearly aware that the individuals in the car were of status.
“If it’s all the sa, let’s not,” Adrian replied with a smile, “I can assure you that neither my companion nor I have been smoking marijuana. It was just sothing that fell on the floor that caused that.”
The officer looked at him, clearly not buying the explanation. Adrian sighed, waved the officer over, and whispered in his ear, “Listen, buddy, even if you don’t recognize , you should recognize the lady with , Miss Julia Roberts, right?”
The officer’s eyes imdiately lit up, and after verifying with Julia, who sat earnestly in the passenger seat, his expression turned apologetic, “I’m very sorry to have interrupted your date, Miss Julia, ah… Mr. Adrian.”
He quickly returned Adrian’s driver’s license and after a brief conversation and obtaining an autograph, he left. The matter of stepping out of the car naturally went out the window.
“I thought you could handle him on your own,” Julia said, rolling her eyes as she sighed.
“Co on, don’t be mad,” Adrian replied cheerfully.
“Forget about doing…” Julia bit her lip in irritation.
“It’s all right now,” Adrian laughed and moved closer to kiss her on the cheek, “I’ll get you ho in no ti.”
The car roared back to life, but what they didn’t notice was that just monts ago, in the alley across the street, flashes of cara lights flickered intermittently.
