Chapter 2276: Chapter 2276: 603
"Was it that woman just now?" Tang Yu said, "I don’t think she’s an ordinary person. I wonder if she’s wearing so powerful prop because I can’t detect a player from her physical ability and aura."
Xu Huo’s spiritual world was enough to cover the neighborhood. While the group was talking, he quickly searched the area but couldn’t find the woman.
"Not sure if it’s because of a prop," he said, "that woman just vanished."
"Not in the area? Then she must be a player. No ordinary person could just walk out." Old Cai’s expression darkened, "We can basically rule out an instance. If it’s not a prop, I can’t think of anything else that could achieve this effect. The more powerful the prop, the stronger its limitations. Since she’s not here, the only answer left is that the prop’s coverage isn’t restricted to this neighborhood."
"Let’s go out and take a look." Xu Huo turned and headed for the gate. Tang Yu and Zhu Xiaojin hesitated, about to say sothing when an old lady burning paper money suddenly called out to them, urgently, "It’s already dark. Why are you young people still outside? Hurry up and go ho!"
Xu Huo stopped in his tracks and turned to her, "We don’t live here."
The old lady was taken aback, sowhat angry, "The younger generation doesn’t know the rules. Is this a place you can just co to? If you’re leaving, you should have done so earlier... It’s dark now, and you won’t be able to leave. If you really have nowhere to go, co to my house. I live in 603."
After speaking, the old lady hurried away, muttering things like "the living walk the main road, the dead don’t obstruct" and "spirits recognize faces."
Not just her, several old ladies did the sa, quickly burning paper and then returning to their buildings, disappearing into so stairwell.
"Can we really not get out?" Zhu Xiaojin tried to reach out towards the gate, facing no obstruction, only to find that beyond was a similar neighborhood.
"Space is restricted." Xu Huo attempted to manipulate spatial power, but discovered a spatial barrier outside the neighborhood, completely unmovable—unlike normal barrier from spatial props. It’s as if it’s at the edge of this world, with no seam to exploit.
"It’s most likely a prop without a doubt then." Old Cai was firm about his conclusion, "It appears to be a supernatural prop. ntal interference has to reach a certain level to truly affect reality, that’s when psychic power can materialize into items. We’re Rank-B players, generally, ntal interference doesn’t take effect quickly. If you want to cause damage, you need to condense power into a physical entity, similar to the situation in a spiritual dungeon."
Similar to "The Seventeenth Hospital," when a player’s imagination in an instance deepens to a certain extent, it can have destructive power—no longer just ntal interference leading to illusions, but tangible spiritual power condensations, akin to Spirit Evolution’s materialized items.
Given a player’s strength, ntal interference cannot quickly achieve its goal. The best approach is direct attack, which seems to be the purpose that player aid to bring them here for—an entity is present, capable of attacking players, and players can attack it.
However, they really didn’t need to stay here wasting ti, so they tried to leave the area. But as soon as they stepped out of the gate, they returned to their previous position—they saw footprints by the gate, because of the rain. Stepping through the gate simply brought them back to where they started.
"Seems like we really can’t get out." Tang Yu said, "Why don’t we go inside and look?"
The others had no objections, so the group went directly to the nearest building. Searching floor by floor would be inconvenient, especially since Xu Huo had already searched. So Zhu Xiaojin simply placed a bomb on the first floor. "Instead of us looking for her, we might as well let her find us. Who knows, maybe the blast will just destroy the prop!"
Once the bomb was set, the group backed off a bit. With deafening explosions, Building No.1 began collapsing from the base, even dragging down the adjacent Building No.2.
By now, the rain had stopped. As the towering dust cleared, all lights in the neighborhood went out, engulfing Xu Huo and the group in darkness like a tidal wave. Monts later, the lights ca back on.
Twinkling lights were no different from when it had suddenly turned dark, the heavy rain then resud its downpour, and Building No.1, which had just been blown away, stood intact.
Xu Huo and the others were back at the gate, taking cover from the rain.
"It’s already dark. Why are you young people still outside? Hurry up and go ho!" the paper-burning old lady called from a distance.
"What the hell, did ti rewind?" Zhu Xiaojin blurted out.
"We don’t live here, we’re just taking cover from the rain." Xu Huo asked the old lady, "Ma’am, which way can we go to get out?"
The old lady gave an unrelated answer, "It’s not quiet outside when it’s dark. If you have nowhere to go, co to my place and make do for the night. My grandson’s gone to school, so there’s an available room. You can squeeze in."
"Alright." Xu Huo readily agreed, then said to Zhu Xiaojin and the others, "Let’s go with her and take a look."
There’s no better plan after failing to leave even by blowing up the building, they needed to figure out what was happening here.
The group followed the old lady to 603.
The old lady was quite hospitable, offering them towels upon entry, pouring water for them, and serving the cookies and fruits she normally wouldn’t indulge in.
The three-bedroom apartnt was neatly arranged, but it had recently hosted a funeral, with a photo of an elderly gentleman presiding, and on the sofa were so neatly folded old clothes.
"Those clothes are ant to be thrown away. The person is gone, and these things can’t be kept." The old lady babbled about her family affairs.
Her son and daughter-in-law died in a car accident years ago, she and her husband raised their grandson. The husband was strict with the grandson, frequently arguing over his studies. The grandson lacked an aptitude for school, eventually dropping out after enrolling in an average college.
The situation dropped to freezing point between the grandmother and grandson, such that even when the elder passed away, the grandson didn’t return.
The old lady took out a photo of her grandson, wiping it repeatedly, "Dear grandson, co back soon. Granny made delicious food for you."
Unable to sit still, Zhu Xiaojin used the excuse of needing the bathroom to open the inner bedroom, monts later he returned, looking as if he had just swallowed a fly, pointed to one room, "The grandson’s in there, the room’s covered with talisman papers, and there’s a coffin on the bed."
"Ma’am, your cookies are really good. Could I have so more?" He sent the old lady on an errand, then whispered to Xu Huo and the others, "You wait, I’ll go in and set it on fire."
"No need." Xu Huo sliced through the bed’s coffin along with its corpse through the door crevice, followed by a piercing scream that was anything but human.
