Chapter 1540: Chapter 1541: The Value of a Person
There are many ways for players to escape Zone 017, and there’s absolutely no need to relocate to the Capital Safe Zone.
If that player is such an important figure, not to ntion the recently escaped underground base personnel, there would have been governnt player organizations or other official personnel arranging his direction long before, not leaving him in the Safe Zone AS9 to be rescued by a young girl at great risk.
The young girl was telling the truth, but she didn’t tell the whole story.
“His situation is different from others… You’ll know it when you see him. I’m not lying.”
Xu Huo decided to believe her words for the ti being and reloaded these people into the “staff dormitory” and then took the young girl to the address she ntioned.
The place he ntioned was a sanatorium located on the outskirts of the city. After the city fell into chaos, it was also affected. However, because most of the people who stayed here were elderly and unable to run out, they chose to hide here as the main building of the sanatorium was not completely destroyed.
According to the young girl’s description, Xu Huo found the person she wanted to rescue in the basent—a man with an abnormally swollen head.
The man lay on the hospital bed, with different sensory devices and infusion needles connected to both sides of his head. The left and right sides of the bed were filled with testing devices and several specially-made glass containers. The difference was that the infusion tubes were not for administering drugs to him but instead for regularly extracting liquids from his head.
“ng Cun!” The young girl quickly walked to the bedside, asking with slightly red eyes, “Are you alright?”
The man’s body and limbs appeared normal, and from the mont they saw him, his hands had been constantly pressing on a floating virtual keyboard in the air. He only looked up when he heard the young girl’s voice, his bloodshot eyes glancing at her for a mont, “Jin Zi, it’s you.”
The young girl nodded, “I’m here to take you away.”
But the young man nad ng Cun shook his head, “I’m not leaving; it’s the crucial mont for decryption now. If I leave, all previous efforts will be wasted.”
Xu Huo glanced at the projection terminal equipnt in the ward. It was still a 3D projection, but among the ga districts, it wasn’t considered very advanced technology.
Nowadays, most districts would introduce terminal equipnt developed in gas. On the basis of supporting three-dinsional projections, it could even simulate real states, although at a high cost. For daily needs, only the most basic 3D projection was necessary, so after being introduced, many districts would only use it in special places.
The terminal devices actually replaced the role of computers, but with significant changes in volu and form. There were terminal devices that could be worn like watches or badges, and so were made into everyday decorations. Slightly more advanced devices would be manufactured into engraved circuit tal carriers like those in the Zone 011 Ga Base Governnt, the size depending on the load capacity.
It’s said that at higher wormhole points, a super terminal directly controlled by human brain neurons had already been developed. The limit of the human brain was its limit.
However, on players’ various platforms, this remained a rumor. If it really reached that level, it would undoubtedly be controlled by only a few people, at least not publicly available to players.
The one ng Cun was using was already an outdated product, and he wore glasses that allowed only the operator to see, while others could not see his operation interface.
“You staying alive is the most important thing.” Jin Zi grabbed his arm, “Leave with
first!”
ng Cun, however, did not appreciate it and pushed her hand away, saying, “I won’t live long. I have to decrypt the chip before the next instance; don’t worry about , just leave.”
“I won’t give up on you!” Jin Zi emphasized, “You’re just sick; you can be cured, and only then is there a future. You’re the only one in Zone 017, you’re the hope, the future. Do you want to see Zone 017 disappear forever?”
ng Cun was unmoved, “I’m not Zone 017’s hope, nor yours. Don’t place the future on my shoulders. All I can do is decrypt the chip before I die, and that’s my greatest use.”
Perhaps due to an abnormal brain evolution, ng Cun’s expression and tone lacked normal human emotions. It wasn’t deliberately suppressed or hidden but was his true thoughts—perhaps his well-developed brain told him so.
Seeing that she couldn’t persuade him, Jin Zi considered smashing the equipnt, but then she heard him say, “Destroying the terminal equipnt will only cause loss to Zone 017, don’t act rashly.”
The straightforward words contained no emotion, rely asking her to consider the consequences.
Obviously, Jin Zi believed his life was more important, so she backed away from the bedside and looked at Xu Huo.
However, at that mont, ng Cun raised his head again and said to the outsider Xu Huo, “You can’t get the promised benefits from Jin Zi, because so far, at least one-third of the players who haven’t left Zone 017 have died at the hands of players from other zones, especially those with governnt resources.”
“I don’t have anything valuable on
either.”
“I have head mutation, not super evolution. If the liquid in my brain is not continually released, my head will keep growing, and I won’t live more than three days.”
“Perhaps you think my brain has so research value, but that would be only while I’m alive.”
“And you don’t seem to be a fan of live research.”
“Helping Jin Zi won’t get you any benefits.”
“I knew this before coming here,” Xu Huo sat down opposite him, “Now I’m more interested in you.”
“You decrypting the chip should know that the big-headed alien species, which are rare among the different species group, are called the ‘Wise Variant.’ Your current appearance could be a breakthrough for them.”
ng Cun was indifferent, “An increase in brain capacity does not equate to increased wisdom. The ‘Wise Variant’ just happened to grow a big head while showing ‘smartness’ different from other species, and there’s no necessary link between the two.”
Xu Huo didn’t show him the video from beneath the dinsion but said, “It’s no coincidence that chips appear in the bodies of big-headed alien species.”
Spreading his fingers, he held three identical chips in his hand, “All dug out from the big-headed alien species.”
ng Cun insisted on his opinion, “That only proves the people conducting this experint lack intelligence.”
“This has nothing to do with wisdom or cost,” Xu Huo said flatly, “Maybe they just wanted to do so research while nurturing the breeding ground.”
ng Cun’s moving fingers finally stopped.
The reason he was willing to forgo the chance of escape to stay here and decrypt the chip was nothing more than believing the chip contained critically important data. The reality was the sa idea the people releasing the different species had when implanting the chip—if the ‘Wise Variant’ wasn’t important, then the chip wouldn’t be important either, and there wouldn’t be any research value.
Conversely, if the chip was truly important, it suggested ng Cun might also possess so actual value.
