Chris’s stomach had been growling incessantly, a constant reminder of his hunger. Normally, he held a strong aversion to junk food, especially consuming it in public. But today, his hunger overrode his reservations, compelling him to indulge. The urgency of the situation earlier had left him with no ti for a proper al, and his stomach protested vehently. Succumbing to the tantalizing aroma of food, he reached for the sausage, sinking his teeth into it. The warm, tender bite was a soothing contrast to his crankiness induced by hunger. A chuckle bubbled from his throat, the sound a mix of contentnt and amusent, as if his stomach were joining in on the joke.
Sky’s gaze flicked towards him, an amused glint in his eyes. "Seems like you’re having quite the feast there."
Chris’s grin widened, mischief dancing in his eyes. "You can’t even imagine."
A brief silence lingered between them before Sky’s voice cut through. "Sorry," he mumbled, a trace of regret colouring his tone.
Chris turned to him, a hint of confusion in his expression. "Why... are you apologizing?"
Sky’s gaze remained fixed ahead, his fingers drumming lightly on the steering wheel. "I didn’t realize earlier that you were probably starving. I should have taken you for a proper al."
Chris’s surprise gave way to a soft chuckle. "You know that you’re adorable, right?"
Sky’s confusion deepened, his eyes darting to Chris for a mont. "What?"
Chris’s voice turned gentle, almost reverent. "When you act like that, it’s adorable." He spoke softly, his gaze locked on Sky’s profile, his words a testant to his sincerity.
Sky’s lips twitched, a hint of a smile threatening to surface. His attempt to suppress it failed, and he turned to et Chris’s intense gaze. "Does it make your heart skip?" he asked, his tone laced with amusent.
Chris’s breath caught, a mixture of surprise and warmth flooding his chest. "Actually... it does..."
The unexpected admission seed to catch Sky off guard. He blinked, his expression a mixture of curiosity and intrigue. "You’re weird tonight."
Chris’s laughter rang through the air, a joyful sound that seed to reverberate in the confines of the car. "You started it!"
Sky shook his head, a teasing smile tugging at his lips. "Nope. I was just worried about you. But it seems like I’ve inadvertently made you more comfortable than you should be, to the point where you can now make uncomfortable instead." He admitted.
Chris revelled in the playfulness of their banter. "Well, you’ll have to up your ga then, sugar daddy."
Sky’s gaze t his, a glint of determination in his eyes. "Trust , I will."
With practised finesse, Chris reached for the cup of ice cream, his movents deliberate and purposeful. He extracted the tiny plastic spoon, taking a mont to wipe it ticulously with a napkin. The anticipation was palpable as he scooped a portion of the ice cream, its cold sweetness contrasting delightfully with the warmth of the sausage. As he savoured the flavours, a moan of pleasure slipped from his lips, an involuntary response that lingered in the air.
Sky cleared his throat, snapping Chris out of his reverie. Heat flooded Chris’s cheeks as he realized the indiscretion of his actions. "Um, sorry. Got a little carried away there," he admitted, chuckling self-consciously.
A smirk played at the corner of Sky’s lips, his gaze dancing with amusent. "To your liking?"
Chris shrugged, a playful grin returning to his face. "This tastes... not bad."
Sky’s chuckle was soft, his eyes warm with genuine pleasure. "I’m glad you like it. I was hoping it would make up for the earlier unpleasantness."
Chris’s enthusiasm waned as mories of the encounter with Ash resurfaced. "Ugh, that crazy Ash."
Sky’s expression turned sympathetic. "Why don’t we focus on enjoying this mont instead?"
Chris welcod the change of subject, grateful for Sky’s efforts to lighten the mood. "You’re right. So, why didn’t you get sothing for yourself?"
A rueful smile tugged at Sky’s lips. "I can’t eat and drive at the sa ti."
Chris’s eyebrow arched in playful skepticism. "Well, I could always feed you."
Sky’s incredulous look only fueled Chris’s amusent. "Seriously?"
Chris’s laughter bubbled forth, a playful glint in his eyes. "Why not? We could share."
Sky’s doubt remained evident, his skepticism unyielding. "You want... to share your spoon?"
Chris’s playful smirk widened. "Afraid of indirectly kissing ?"
Sky snorted, his eyes rolling heavenward. "Wouldn’t be the first ti."
Chris paused, his eyes locking onto Sky’s in surprise. "What?"
Sky t his gaze, a half-smile playing on his lips as his voice grew lower. "I said it wouldn’t be the first ti."
Chris’s heart raced, the implications of Sky’s words sending a jolt of excitent through him. Leaning in a bit closer, he spoke in a hushed tone. "Are you... referring to the lip or the neck?"
Sky’s expression shifted, a hint of flustered amusent crossing his features.
Chris’s bravado wavered as he realized the direction their conversation had taken. He chuckled nervously, attempting to steer the conversation back to playful banter. "Well, I an, it’s not a big deal, right?"
Sky’s eyebrow quirked, a knowing glint in his eyes. "It isn’t now?"
Chris’s voice turned surprisingly serious. "It really isn’t."
A comfortable silence enveloped them, each lost in their thoughts. The tension lifted when Sky spoke up, breaking the spell. "Rain almost kissed you."
The topic had veered into an unexpectedly awkward realm, and Chris struggled to find his footing. "That had been... unexpected," he managed to utter, his voice tinged with a mixture of uncertainty.
Sky’s tone shifted, his concern evident. "She looked hurt."
Chris’s gaze dropped, his fingers toying with the cup of ice cream in his hands. "I... guess," he mumbled, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts he couldn’t quite articulate.
Sky’s voice softened; his words were careful. "Do you... like her?"
Caught off guard, Chris’s eyes snapped up to et Sky’s, the question lingering in the air between them. "You already told she’s off limits—"
Sky interrupted, his voice insistent. "Do you like Rain?"
Chris hesitated, then sighed, realizing evasion wouldn’t serve him well. "Yes," he admitted, his voice quiet and contemplative.
"What?" Sky’s voice was tinged with surprise, his brows furrowing in disbelief.
Chris t his gaze head-on, his resolve unwavering. "Not romantically. As friends."
Sky’s gaze returned to the road ahead, his fingers resuming their rhythmic tapping on the steering wheel. "Should I believe that?"
Chris’s frustration simred beneath the surface. "Is there a reason you can’t?"
Sky’s gaze held an intensity that sent shivers down Chris’s spine. "I’m not blind, Chris. I’ve been seeing you. Two of you."
Chris’s heart hamred in his chest, his pulse racing. The implications of Sky’s words were impossible to ignore. The tension in the car was palpable, and Chris found himself struggling to find the right words to ease the situation.
It was crazy. Because nobody— guy or girl— had been able to make him feel different kinds of emotions at once.
Chris’s voice wavered as he sought to regain control of the conversation. "There’s nothing there, romantically at least. I assure you."
Sky’s tone remained asured, his gaze unwavering. "Good."
The weight of the mont hung heavily in the air, and the unspoken understanding between them was almost tangible. Chris’s mind raced, searching for the right response. "It’s nice that you care about her so much," he finally said, his words tinged with a mixture of envy and admiration.
Sky’s smile was bittersweet, his voice laced with affection. "She’s my sister. Of course, I’d do anything to protect her."
Sky shot him a glance, and a hint of a smile tugged at his lips. "Well, I’m not just looking out for her, you know."
"What do you an?"
"You know I flirt with you a lot, right?" He asked Chris, who rolled his eyes at the obvious question.
"Well... Good morning." He said with a hint of sarcasm that made Sky laugh, and then he turned serious as he said, "I wouldn’t want to flirt with the sa guy my sister is kissing."
Chris blinked, taken aback by the confession. He wanted to retort in the usual playful banter, but he could only mutter an "Oh..."
"Yeah."
Awkward...
"Would you like so ice cream now?" Chris asked to release the tension in the air.
Sky let out a snort, his expression a mix of surprise and amusent. "That’s not even... Are you serious?"
Chris’s playful deanour remained intact as he scooped a portion of ice cream onto the spoon. "Here, have a bite."
Sky looked incredulous for a mont before shaking his head with an amused smile. "I’m not sharing a spoon with— umph!"
Chris shoved the ice cream into his mouth, laughing before he could finish speaking.
"Chris!" He spluttered and tried to keep the ice cream from spilling out by shutting up and swallowing.
Well... that sounded weird, but yeah. In the literal sense, with ice cream.
"Shhh," Chris said, trying to muffle his laughter as he helped Sky wipe his lips with a napkin, his action lingering longer in his lips than they should.
"Now that’s not so bad, was it?" Chris couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride in the small victory he had just achieved. He had managed to push the boundaries a little, and he was rewarded with a glimpse of Sky’s playful side. As he settled back into his seat, a smug smile tugged at Chris’s lips, earning an amused scoff from Sky.
"You’re enjoying this way too much, Chris."
Chris’s grin widened, his voice dripping with playful confidence. "Can you bla ? It’s not every day I get to see you flustered."
Sky shook his head, a soft chuckle escaping his lips. "You’re unbelievable."
Chris’s heart felt lighter than it had in a long ti. He had managed to share a lighthearted mont with Sky, one that hinted at a deeper connection between them. At least, that was what he wanted to believe.
As they continued their drive, a comfortable silence settled between them, the weight of unspoken emotions adding a layer of complexity to their growing friendship.
The truck’s engine idled softly as it ca to a stop in front of the dormitory building. Chris and Sky exchanged glances, their eyes locking for a mont before they both started speaking at the sa ti. Their voices overlapped in a jumble of words, and Sky raised an eyebrow, amused by the simultaneous chatter.
"Okay, okay, hold on," Sky said, chuckling. "You first, Chris."
Chris’s grin widened, his playful spirit undeterred. "I was thinking... since it’s getting late and we’ve had quite a day, maybe you could... um, spend the night in the dorm?"
