Of course, feeling frustrated was completely understandable. Especially since Ruan Lan’s cultivation level wasn’t very high, yet her formations were outrageously powerful, one stronger than the next. They included several arrays with unknown nas that were even more bizarre and extraordinary. With no Array Patterns to speak of, their configuration and structure were a total ss. Even Cultivators from the Immortal Domain who had studied *Three Years of Array Setting, Five Years of Simulation* couldn’t have laid them out. It was all so random, almost like child’s play!

To save his life, Xu Lai couldn’t have imagined that a woman whose cultivation level seed so average could make all the major sects give way, achieving a ’king’s might’ he himself had not possessed in his youth. Of course, the current ’Ruan the Tyrant’ was still a hobody. Unlike her future self, who would be obsessed only with formations, she currently had a full-blown passion for video gas.

...

「A warm afternoon.」

Xu Lai lay on a rattan chair in the backyard, basking in the spring sunshine while playing with the plump Xiao Hei. This Gold Swallowing Beast had not yet experienced a Spirit Awakening and was in its Chaotic Period. Although its cultivation level was weak, it was actually sowhat cute. The only pity was that the at of a Gold Swallowing Beast wasn’t very tasty. Otherwise, according to the Seventh Divine General’s recipes, it could have been made into dozens of grand als.

Perhaps sensing Xu Lai’s gaze—the kind one reserves for ingredients—the plump creature felt an inexplicable chill. It carefully moved its body and, with a WHOOSH, ran to the edge of the sofa in the living room, trembling at the feet of Ruan Lan and Yiyi. Instinct told it this was necessary, or it would be in grave danger.

Xu Lai pursed his lips. Its cultivation level is weak and its spiritual intelligence hasn’t awakened, but it sure can run fast.

At three o’clock in the afternoon, Xu Lai stretched lazily and looked over at his sister-in-law and daughter, who were still playing video gas. "It’s ti to rest your eyes."

"Okay," Ruan Lan responded.

She pressed the pause button on the ga and carried Xu Yiyi to the backyard. The sunlight was warm, and the water in the hot spring pool was perfectly comfortable. Her interest piqued, she suggested, "Yiyi, how about we soak in the hot spring for a bit?"

"Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh," the little girl nodded continuously.

No sooner said than done. She took her niece back to their room to change into swimsuits, and then the two of them jumped from the second-floor balcony, sending water splashing everywhere. Ruan Lan leaned on the edge of the hot spring pool. Gazing at the golden splendor of East Sea City bathed in sunlight and the dazzlingly beautiful Haitang flowers below the mountain, she couldn’t help but sigh, "It’s so beautiful."

"Daddy, co join us," Yiyi called out, her little face lifted, speaking in a sweet, soft voice.

"No, you girls enjoy. I’m going to go for a walk," Xu Lai said with a smile.

"Oh, okay."

Xu Yiyi said no more, imitating Ruan Lan by leaning on the edge of the pool, looking utterly adorable.

Xu Lai went to the university first. He hadn’t been back in a few days, but Dongli University looked the sa as always. The mont he walked in, he heard Liu Nanwei telling another risqué joke.

"Hey, a new joke, huh? I haven’t heard this one before," Xu Lai teased.

"Director Xu," Liu Nanwei stood up in surprise. "When did you get back?"

"This morning," Xu Lai replied. "Has anything happened these past few days?"

"No," Liu Nanwei said, bored. "With you not around, Doctor Zhou and I were just muddling through, bored to death."

"..."

Zhou Feng’s face turned green. "Liu Nanwei! Make yourself clear! What do you an by ’muddling through’?"

"My apologies, I misspoke," Liu Nanwei coughed. "I ant we were just scraping by."

Xu Lai patted Zhou Feng on the shoulder with a complicated expression. "A man out in the world has to know how to protect himself."

Liu Nanwei rolled her eyes coyly. "Doctor Zhou might have trouble protecting himself tonight. His Senior Sister asked him to a movie—the ten o’clock show."

"What’s wrong with a ten o’clock show?" Zhou Feng retorted. "My Senior Sister is busy! Besides, the theater is less crowded and very quiet that late!"

"Mm-hmm, I understand," Liu Nanwei nodded. "You should probably bring your ID, then. That way you can go straight to a hotel."

"I always carry it with ," Zhou Feng replied subconsciously.

"Well, well," Liu Nanwei said with a pleased expression. "The little piglet has finally learned to root for truffles."

"..."

Zhou Feng was mortified. Although he wasn’t young, he had been single his entire life and was no match for a newlywed woman like Liu Nanwei. In just a few words, she had teased him until his face was beet-red, and he made an excuse to use the restroom to escape.

"It seems you two get along well. Since I’m not needed here, I’ll be leaving," Xu Lai said.

"Director Xu, this is a little embarrassing to say, but there is sothing I really need your help with," Liu Nanwei hesitated for a long while before finally speaking, a troubled look on her face.

"What’s going on with Li Mi?" Xu Lai asked.

"Ah?" Liu Nanwei was surprised. I haven’t even said anything yet, how does Director Xu already know sothing is wrong with my husband?

"Let’s hear it," Xu Lai said, sitting down curiously.

"As you know, Director Xu, Li Mi runs a martial arts school where he teaches so children," Liu Nanwei said, troubled. "But there are a lot of rules when you run a school, and challenges from others are common."

"Soone challenged the school?"

"No, no, no," Liu Nanwei shook her head repeatedly. "It’s been a long ti since anyone challenged him, but he still feels his strength is insufficient. He heard that you’re a Martial Arts Grandmaster, Director Xu, so he wanted to ask you..."

At this point, she bit her lower lip and stamped her foot. "Oh, this is just too embarrassing to say."

"I cannot do anything to disrespect my wife," Xu Lai said solemnly. "Doctor Liu, please have so self-respect. And please tell your husband to give up his strange hobbies."

"..."

For a rare mont, Liu Nanwei flushed with embarrassnt and annoyance. "He wants to beco your disciple, Director Xu!"

"Is that all?" Xu Lai was taken aback, then breathed a sigh of relief. "No problem at all."

"Then I’ll have him co and kowtow to you as his master imdiately!" Liu Nanwei exclaid with delight.

"That won’t be necessary," Xu Lai said, shaking his head. In his hundred thousand years, he had never taken a disciple, though he had ford many positive connections. He picked up a pen and paper and wrote down a Cultivation Technique. It was the sa one Qian Xiao practiced, originating from the Primordial Giant clan.

It only strengthened the body, without developing Divine Skills!

For the relatively Spiritual Energy-poor Earth, this was the best cultivation thod, allowing one to sweep away all enemies with sheer brute force.

"Just have him practice according to this," Xu Lai said, handing her the paper. "How far he can go, however, depends entirely on his own fortune."

"Thank you, Director Xu," Liu Nanwei thanked him repeatedly. She hadn’t expected it to be so easy. From what her husband, Li Mi, had told her, the Martial Dao World was full of strict rules. Outside of a master-disciple relationship, few would teach others Cultivation Techniques or Divine Skills.

"It’s a small matter," Xu Lai waved his hand, adding seriously, "But I suggest you also practice a bit. Otherwise, he might accidentally injure you sotis. It’s hard to control one’s strength when first starting cultivation."

"Ah?" Liu Nanwei was confused.

Xu Lai didn’t explain further. Saying any more would be indecent.

After staying for an hour or two, as the workday was ending, Xu Lai leisurely headed to Above the White Clouds. As always, he was greeted with the title ’Boss Lady.’

Xu Lai smiled and greeted everyone before entering his office.
