Chapter 146: Twenty-Two Experints

"You..."

"You..."

Just like when Wei Lan was first contaminated, and her spiritual power was completely exhausted, Bowl-Cut Boy was now in the sa state.

His face turned deathly pale, his teeth trembling slightly. The face that usually showed no expression was now filled with shock and awe. Twice he opened his mouth, but only managed to utter the word "You."

Han Su looked at his expression and slowly squatted down, gently extending his palm toward Bowl-Cut Boy, and softly said, "I must confirm whether you can withstand the contamination of this chanical fragnt before I decide whether to let you co into contact with it."

"Apologies in advance. Don’t bla ."

"..."

In truth, one of the reasons he provoked this guy was to experience the unique ntal activity that D7 had, and assess his level.

Of course, this reason couldn't be said aloud.

This guy holds grudges.

Unexpectedly, compared to the intense shock and impact that Wei Lan once showed, Bowl-Cut Boy’s reaction was much better. He didn’t fall into the sa prolonged weakness Wei Lan did—after just a dozen seconds or so, he suddenly raised his head:

"So it was you..."

A single, simple sentence.

It was only at the mont of being contaminated by the chanical fragnt that he revealed that twisted outlook—or rather, a fate and life that had already been distorted, finally coming to a mont of revelation.

But soon after, he returned to calm, with a faint smile slowly forming at the corner of his mouth.

This ti, the smile was genuine, because his eyes had curved.

Han Su wasn’t even curious to see this expression.

Han Su simply nodded lightly and said directly, "I know you probably have a lot of questions, so I’ll tell you everything at once:"

"The kidnapping case is still ongoing. I've been trying to rescue the kidnapped children. I'm also investigating this case in the real world, but I’ve t with a lot of resistance."

"Up to now, I’ve only managed to rescue four children. You were the third. Normally, the children I rescue are removed from the case and forget everything—until they are contaminated by the chanical fragnt in my hand."

"…"

Bowl-Cut Boy quietly listened, his expression a bit blank, making one wonder if he’d even heard any of it. Only after Han Su finished did he lightly nod.

That’s it?

Han Su smiled. "Doesn’t it sound strange, hard to believe?"

The smile on Bowl-Cut Boy’s face seed a bit bashful. He shook his head. "The first ti I saw you, I found you interesting. At first, I thought you were my prey. Later, I felt you didn’t et my prey standards."

"Now, it all makes sense."

"…"

"?"

Han Su imdiately thought of the strange look in Bowl-Cut Boy’s eyes when they first t.

Earlier, he’d asked Wei Lan about this. Wei Lan hadn’t noticed anything strange before recalling these events and couldn’t describe the feeling. Could it be that she just wasn’t as sharp as Bowl-Cut Boy?

With a sigh, Han Su looked at Bowl-Cut Boy and asked, "What have you been up to? How did you end up in D7?"

"I broke the law..."

Bowl-Cut Boy seed to think Han Su's question was absurd and gave him a strange look. "I killed soone and was sentenced. I was supposed to die, but then I was drafted into the Disaster Managent Bureau..."

"Wait a sec..."

Han Su interrupted. Who didn’t know he broke the law?

He tried to rephrase: "I saw the news. The person you killed wasn’t exactly a good guy either. Besides, your family should be fairly powerful..."

"Breaking the law is still breaking the law. It made sense for them to imprison , and also made sense to sentence to death. Drafting into the Disaster Managent Bureau also makes sense."

A trace of longing appeared on Bowl-Cut Boy’s face. "Anyway, I just need to wait another 350 years, and I can get out..."

That calm smile made Han Su's scalp tingle slightly. He waved his hand, "Yeah, real quick."

He lowered his gaze to the wound on Bowl-Cut Boy's stomach, which had already closed up. Just monts ago, it looked like a giant mouth loudly chanting spells—clearly an illusion.

But the torn threads and the blood seeping out showed that the wound had truly opened.

A trace of coldness flashed through Han Su’s eyes. "What did they do to you?"

These were people he had saved. This guy had killed soone, got executed, and was sent into D7—that was all deserved. But from this wound, Han Su saw signs of sothing unnatural.

"Experints."

Bowl-Cut Boy t Han Su’s gaze, seemingly uncomfortable, and looked away indifferently. "D7 not only has to carry out extrely high-fatality missions, but we also have to undergo various experints. Didn’t you know that?"

"With no legal identity and decent ntal activity, every D7 is pri experintal material."

"…"

Han Su furrowed his brow and suddenly asked, "Now that you're in this state, doesn’t your family care?"

The Young Master of the Chen family—if he truly broke the law, being executed was one thing.

But ending up in D7 and subjected to all these experints? That went beyond Han Su’s imagination.

But Bowl-Cut Boy suddenly spoke, seemingly uninterested in the question. "Now that I’ve rembered, is there anything you need to do?"

Han Su frowned helplessly. "What can you help with, given your current state?"

"A lot of things!"

Bowl-Cut Boy silently thought for a mont and said, "Find the mastermind behind the kidnapping case, or help you kill a few annoying people. Also, I’m pretty good at gardening. During my years in D7, I even learned how to unclog toilets..."

‘Did I save you just to garden and fix plumbing?’

Han Su was speechless and shook his head lightly, whispering, "We really do have a lot to do. I’m investigating the kidnapping case from ten years ago, and many people are obstructing . This recent attack might also be connected."

"And I’m preparing to rescue more kids. I don’t know what lies ahead, and I truly need more help. But right now..."

He shook his head again. "I don’t have the power to get you out."

Bowl-Cut Boy looked into Han Su’s eyes seriously, seemingly very interested in what he had to say.

Then he gently interrupted, "No need to rescue . If you need help, I can take leave."

"?"

Han Su thought he misheard. "Take leave?"

"Yes."

Bowl-Cut Boy nodded. "I’ve got 350 years left on my sentence. If I want to help you, I have to take leave."

"..."

For once, Han Su looked genuinely surprised—he couldn’t tell if the guy was joking or serious.

"I promised my father I’d stay put."

Bowl-Cut Boy rarely explained himself. "But for your matters, I’ll take leave to help."

Han Su suddenly realized. "So, you’re staying in D7 actually because..."

Bowl-Cut Boy nodded. "Like you just said, my family still has so influence."

‘What kind of decent family uses their influence for sothing like this?’

Han Su couldn’t even articulate his feelings anymore—it just made less sense the more he thought about it. "If your family has enough power to get you leave from D7, then these experints on you..."

"I’ve only completed the seventh one."

Bowl-Cut Boy explained softly. "There are twenty-two in total."

"What the hell..."

"...Did you request these surgeries yourself?"

Bowl-Cut Boy gave Han Su a puzzled look. "Of course. Why else would I join D7?"

"?"

Sothing felt off. How did I end up getting spun around like this?

"This ti, we don’t have much ti to chat."

Han Su refocused—any more chatting and he felt his brain might break. Though he had a million questions, he could only pick the important ones for now. He said to Bowl-Cut Boy, "Do you know who sent those three to attack ?"

Even if this attack seed more like training practice, the culprits still needed to be found.

Bowl-Cut Boy was destroying Jackal’s corpse. He was thodical—since he’d reunited with Han Su, he couldn’t leave traces of his own preferences. He regretfully closed Jackal’s eyes, which refused to shut in death.

Then he slowly said, "D7 is a massive world. It’s not wrong to say it’s the dark side of the Disaster Managent Bureau, with lots of shady trades."

"I don’t know what orders they received. I only know that before the mission, soone from D1 contacted them. They also tried to contact but gave up."

"Execution mber?"

Han Su frowned slightly and asked instinctively, "Why didn’t they recruit you in the end?"

Bowl-Cut Boy replied, "Because I pretended to be uninterested in you. But for so reason, they still sent along in the end."

‘As expected, the ones who sent this guy weren’t the sa as those who wanted to attack ...’

Han Su already had his suspicions. If the three D7s were treating him as prey, then Bowl-Cut Boy was clearly treating those three as his prey.

This guy—he’s a natural-born pervert who hunts perverts...

He quickly composed himself, knowing their talk ti was limited. He gathered his thoughts and looked up at Bowl-Cut Boy. "From now on, you need to start being interested in ."

Bowl-Cut Boy imdiately understood. His eyes curved, and he smiled. "To what extent?"

"Find that Execution mber, or soone even higher behind the scenes."

As Han Su spoke, he patted himself down—arms, chest, stomach—finally choosing his leg.

He glanced at the rebar, the rubble, and the gun in his suitcase.

Then he made a decision—he picked up Jackal and slashed his arm, letting the blood flow onto his own leg. He whispered, "Either kill them or pass the intel to —whichever makes you happier."

Bowl-Cut Boy looked intrigued. Then, he too picked up a knife and slowly slashed diagonally from his right shoulder. Blood gushed out.

"Isn’t that a bit too realistic?"

Han Su tore a piece of his coat and wrapped his bloodstained leg, pretending to be injured. He frowned at the blood-drenched Bowl-Cut Boy.

Bowl-Cut Boy replied, "It’s more fun this way."

Han Su was helpless. Fine, fun it is...

He could already hear faint footsteps approaching from outside and had readied himself for his performance. Just then, Bowl-Cut Boy suddenly looked up.

"Our war—how far has it progressed?"

Han Su t his gaze, nodded lightly, and said, "It’s only just begun."

Bowl-Cut Boy’s smile suddenly beca radiant.
