Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Is This Your Wife? Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Is This Your Wife? But just as Cheng Yi was about to send this ssage, another ssage from Xinan ca through.

Xinan: Work was so busy today; I only just got back to the hotel. I didn’t see your ssage until after I had taken a bath.

Cheng Yi felt like his heart was on a roller coaster, plumting from the sky and then being pressed hard towards the ground by gravity.

He deleted the words on the screen one by one, and then re-entered: Okay, you should rest early.

Xinan: But the things I said just now, every sentence is true.

Cheng Yi: What… do you an?

Xinan: I an what you’re thinking.

He did not know how to describe the emotions he felt at this mont; he had always been smart since he was young, understanding everything with just a hint. But now, he only felt particularly foolish.

Cheng Yi: Why…?

Xinan: When you co back, can I tell you in person?

Cheng Yi: Okay.

Seeing that Xinan sent no more ssages, Cheng Yi turned off his phone and walked step by step into the bedroom.

Perhaps it was due to the excitent, but Cheng Yi felt his stomach begin to ache faintly again.

Yet, this ti his heart was sweet.

After marrying Xinan, although he often traveled on business, he had never felt such an urgent desire to see her as he did now.

It was an emotion that was hard to put into words.

Sitting on the sofa in the bedroom, Cheng Yi pulled out a cigarette and lit it,

wearing a white shirt with the collar slightly open and the sleeves rolled up to the elbows, exposing his strong arms.

His slender and clean fingertips held a cigarette, emitting a faint blue glow under the bright light.

Cheng Yi squinted his eyes, gazing at the night scene outside the window. The window was tightly shut, outside was pitch black.

Xinan had said that she had sothing very important to tell him when she got back.

What could it be…

His heartbeat was really fast at the mont, even the fingers holding the cigarette were trembling slightly.

Is it really what he was thinking?

In order to finish work early and return sooner, Cheng Yi tightened all his schedules, arranging every day to the brim.

Ye Rui, standing aside, internally sighed, thinking that Mr. Yi’s work efficiency was just too high. A workload that would normally take a week to complete was now compressed into three days by him.

But at the sa ti, Ye Rui was also quite concerned about Cheng Yi’s health, as the frequency of his dication intake had been increasing lately, and sotis he even needed to take one or two pain relief pills to get relief.

Seeing Cheng Yi’s brows start to furrow again and cold sweat appearing on his forehead, Ye Rui couldn’t help but worry: “Mr. Yi, maybe we should go to the hospital, your stomach pain seems to be getting more frequent.”

Cheng Yi took a pill and responded softly with a “hmm”.

Then he asked, “Have you made an appointnt with Mr. Davis?”

Ye Rui answered, “Yes, at seven o’clock tonight, he will have dinner with you at Bernardin restaurant.”

“Okay, good.”

The reason Cheng Yi ca to the United States was to discuss a collaboration with Mr. Davis. But Mr. Davis was a particularly quirky man, generally inaccessible to most, which compelled Cheng Yi to take the matter into his own hands.

As Cheng Yi reached for so docunts and was about to step out, Ye Rui subconsciously followed.

But then Cheng Yi suddenly turned around and said, “I’ll go alone, you return to the country first, there are so things back ho that need your attention.”

Although Ye Rui hesitated, he still replied, “Okay.”

Although Mr. Davis lived in the United States, he was actually British, and with less than an hour to spare until seven o’clock and with British people being very punctual, Cheng Yi drove very quickly.

In the end, it took only twenty minutes to reach the restaurant’s entrance.

After about a ten-minute wait, Mr. Davis finally appeared.

He had just turned sixty this year but was still full of vigor. He wore a brown suit with a white shirt and tie, his hair combed ticulously, presenting the image of a gentleman.

“Hello, Mr. Cheng,” he said in a crisp English accent, a smile on his face.

“Hello, Mr. Davis, please take a seat,” Cheng Yi extended his hand to seat him.

During the al, Cheng Yi went straight to the point: “Mr. Davis, have you looked at the contract? If there are no issues, let’s discuss it!”

“Mr. Cheng, I’ve looked at the contract carefully before I ca. I must say it’s a very sincere contract with very favorable terms. But there’s one condition I have…” Davis elegantly wiped his mouth with a handkerchief, a hint of slyness in his eyes.

Cheng Yi gave a faint smile. He’s quite the old fox indeed…

“Go ahead…”

“If the cooperation is successful, then I hope we can share resources. I’ll help you expand the scope of your business in the United States, and you help open up the market in Asia. How does that sound?” His voice was full of temptation.

“I knew it; you wouldn’t agree to cooperate so easily. I can agree to your proposal, but I have a condition too.”

“Please speak, Mr. Cheng.”

“You’ll give another five percent in the deal.”

Davis smiled looking up, saying, “Mr. Cheng, you truly are a businessman.”

The corner of Cheng Yi’s mouth curled up: “Like recognizes like.”

“Alright, I agree to your terms, Mr. Cheng. Here’s to a pleasant cooperation!” Davis said with a smile, raising his glass.

“To a pleasant cooperation,” Cheng Yi also raised his glass and clinked it with Davis’s, then took a drink.

As the dinner was drawing to a close, Cheng Yi’s phone on the table suddenly vibrated.

The screen lit up automatically—it was a ssage from Xinan.

Cheng Yi unlocked it and saw that it was another selfie from Xinan.

With a smile in his eyes, he held the screen, tapped to save the photo.

“Is this your wife?” Davis suddenly asked.

“Yes, she’s my beloved,” Cheng Yi replied candidly, not taking his eyes off the photo.

“I can see that,” Davis complinted openly: “And she’s very pretty, like a porcelain doll.”

Cheng Yi smiled: “Yes, she is beautiful. In my heart, no one in the world can compare to her.”

Davis also smiled: “Then you’re truly lucky, to have married the one you deeply love.”

“Right, I must have saved the Milky Way in my last life to be able to marry her in this one.”

“Mr. Cheng, you’re quite the humorist.”

Cheng Yi just smiled faintly; he knew very well that sophisticated egoists like Davis would not understand such things.

For in their hearts, they only ever have themselves, so they would never truly know what it feels like to like soone, nor what it feels like to deeply love soone.

In his world, the concepts of ‘like’ and ‘love’ simply did not exist.

Cheng Yi had thoroughly investigated Mr. Davis before coming. He had never married in his life, had no lovers or female companions; his heart only held wealth and status.

Such a person was wise, but also tragic.
