Poe Vaughn looked at the person in the bedroom whose vulnerable emotions had never been so clearly and truly revealed. She laid everything bare before him, the good and the bad, allowing him no chance to look away.
She wanted him to see all of her, so flawed, so mismatched with him, like heaven and earth apart.
She was rejecting him, yet at the sa ti... yearning for him.
At this mont, he looked into her eyes, longing, insecurity, struggle, hesitation; these emotions entwined him like vines tainted with affection, binding him tightly.
So things needed to be said.
And now was the ti to say them.
"Ava Sterling, I know everything about your family, even the things you’re unaware of. I know what kind of person you are, when you left your hotown, when you ca out here. I know what you went through in this complex society, what kind of resu you have, I understand as well."
"I have always clearly understood everything about you, including yourself."
"All of this, I knew even before we t."
Ava’s eyes widened in an instant, her hand instinctively tightened over her chest. As if hearing sothing unbelievable, she looked at him in shock.
He knew her before they t.
Before they t, when exactly did that happen?
Was it during that product launch?
Or was it at Crestwood Manor that ti?
For so reason, thinking of Crestwood Manor, her heart beca disordered, her thoughts tangled, leaving her unsure where to start.
However, despite the chaos in her heart without a resting place, she still looked at him, looked at him intently.
It seed as if she was split into two at this mont, one half with him, Poe, and the other half, lonely to the side, already a chaotic ss.
"There are many won in this world, but for , Poe Vaughn, I only choose what I desire. What others consider good is their opinion, it doesn’t matter to , Poe Vaughn. What I, Poe Vaughn, consider good, that is good."
"Your family background and education are not as good as mine, Ava Sterling, but so what?"
So... what?
These plain four words, entirely unremarkable four words, from Poe Vaughn’s lips, beca sothing completely different.
Ava’s heart skipped a beat, then she stared wide-eyed at the proud and resolute person for the first ti, like a pine tree standing firm atop a snowy mountain.
He stood amidst the frost and snow, and no matter how the world changed, be it storms or lightning, he remained unaffected.
Nothing could sway him.
He lived only for himself, unbound by anything.
He knew clearly what he wanted and wouldn’t change for anyone.
"I chose you because I don’t care about those things; those things hold no value to , Poe Vaughn. I, Poe Vaughn, do not need to socialize or discuss daily; I’m not looking for a work partner, I want a companion. I don’t need family background; I already have it, I don’t need to use it for leverage or accolades. Whatever project I want, I’ll pursue on my own; whatever I want to do, I’ll do myself. I, Poe Vaughn, don’t need a woman’s family background as a stepping stone for advancent; I, Poe Vaughn, am not so weak."
"You’re not exceptional, Ava Sterling, but why do I need you to be? I need soone who truly cares for ; you like , and that’s enough."
