The phone was still in his palm, carrying a slight warmth, just like his heart at the mont, wrapped in a gentle heat.
Poe Vaughn focused on the phone, his thumb lightly tapping it intermittently, his gaze deepening layer by layer.
Ding!
A ssage ca in, and the phone vibrated slightly in his hand.
His thumb paused, his eyes narrowed slightly as he opened the ssage.
Ava Sterling: [I’ve ordered the food, it should arrive at the hospital in about half an hour. Check the ti, and if the traffic is really bad, send a ssage, and I’ll tell them to deliver it later.]
The content was simple, the aning clear. Poe Vaughn looked at the ssage for a long ti and then spoke, "Turn at the next intersection."
The driver understood.
Previously, there was no hurry, but now there was urgency.
"Okay."
After sending the ssage to Poe Vaughn, Ava glanced at the ti and then started watching a show, waiting for him to arrive.
The sky outside had completely darkened, the lights in the night began to sparkle, and in just about half an hour, the sky no longer held a trace of daylight.
The night truly descended.
Click, the door of the hospital room opened from the outside.
Ava paused, drawing her gaze away from the TV to look over.
His tall figure, still dressed as he was last night, a shirt and trousers, with a suit jacket draped over his wrist, and a pair of polished, shiny leather shoes.
He seed to have just co over as soon as he finished his work.
A sudden question arose in Ava’s mind: Why did he co over? Was it just to have her keep him company for chess?
But she’s so clueless, why would he choose her over anyone else?
Or was he enjoying the process of teaching a clueless person and the outco?
The more Ava thought about it, the more correct it seed. A sense of achievent is the easiest way to bring happiness to soone. When all efforts finally yield satisfying results, that mont is imnsely happy and fulfilling.
This person already has enough money, so wealth no longer satisfies his desires. Only this sense of achievent can greatly satisfy his spiritual world.
Thinking so, Ava squinted her eyes.
Truly a bigshot, their needs are different from ordinary people like us, impressive.
Poe Vaughn opened the door and stepped inside, and the scene within fell into his eyes. To be precise, the person leaning against the headboard watching TV fell deep into his gaze.
She leaned against the headboard, her eyes narrowed, hugging a pink sunflower in her arms, her slender fingers pinching the sunflower’s leaf as she pondered.
His eyes slightly moved, his gaze fell on the human-sized sunflower she held in her arms.
The sunflower was large, ticulously crafted, lifelike, but not golden in color; instead, it was a pure pink, with a chubby body and a big face like a doll, soft and furry.
She seed to like it a lot. Although her hand wasn’t very agile, she still held onto it as if hugging a close companion.
Poe Vaughn contemplated the sunflower, his gaze turning away as he closed the door.
The caregiver saw him and bowed before leaving.
In no ti, only the two of them were left in the hospital room.
Ava said, "You’re just in ti; dinner just arrived and is on the table, still hot."
"Quickly wash your hands and eat, and then we’ll play chess."
Ava didn’t forget the reward he ntioned last night; she had kept it in mind.
The reason it was so morable was that she suspected the reward might be money.
After all, only the motivation of money can continuously drive people forward in this world.
And since she couldn’t work during this ti, she had lost a lot. If she could earn so money from playing chess with this person, she’d be very satisfied.
Poe Vaughn looked at the two thermos containers on the table, placed his jacket on the sofa, and unbuttoned his cuff, asking, "Have you eaten?"
"Of course!"
"I ate quite early, thanks to Jace Kingsley, who specifically asked the caregiver to buy snacks. There was plenty, and all were spicy."
"I finished them all."
"Initially, I planned to save so for you, but since you can’t handle them, I didn’t save any for you."
Ava wasn’t the type to hide things; she spoke her mind freely, without reservation.
She hadn’t done anything wrong to him, so she had no need to avoid the topic.
She was just that simple and honest.
However, when the words ’Jace Kingsley’ ca out of her mouth, Poe Vaughn’s fingers paused in unbuttoning his cufflinks.
