Liam listened as Sylvia leaned back in her chair, her voice calm but firm. "It was actually a test for you, Liam. I needed to make sure you were really the chosen one."
He stared at her for a second, his mind spinning. The room felt a little smaller all of a sudden, with Director Elena sitting quietly nearby. Liam rubbed the back of his neck. "Why didn’t you just ask ? That’s all I wanted, to take Simon down. I thought we were on the sa side here."
Sylvia let out a long sigh and looked away for a mont. "I lied. I can’t take him down myself. He’s got too many factions backing him, and the monster activity outside the walls keeps getting worse. Raids are happening more often now. I had to know for sure before I dragged you into anything bigger."
Liam gulped. His throat felt dry. He had seen enough weird stuff lately to know she wasn’t joking about the monsters, but hearing it straight from her still made his stomach twist. "So why test at all?" he asked, keeping his tone even. "What was the point?"
She t his eyes again. "A while back, I was poking around one of the ancient tombs outside Luminaries City. I found an old book with a tale about the chosen one. It said the chosen one could enter the succubus realm and make it through the dark mountain trail.
But what really caught my attention was the reward at the end, a mythic-grade shield that could throw up a permanent level-two-hundred barrier over a fifty-mile radius. That’s exactly what we need right now. The monster races are gearing up for sothing big near the city."
Liam looked at her closely. He rembered the reports he had seen, the high succubus general V barking orders, troops marching in neat lines toward Luminaris.
The images flashed in his head, sharp and real. She wasn’t lying. The monster threat was real, and it was getting closer every day.
He shifted his weight from one foot to the other. "Okay... so now that you’ve made sure I’m the chosen one, what do I get out of it?"
Sylvia’s expression softened a little. "I’ll support you with equipnt, good stuff, the kind that actually helps. And I’ll give you a map to the dark mountain trail inside the succubus realm.
But I have to warn you, Liam. The journey is dangerous. The succubus realm is packed with high-level monsters, and it’s deep in the wilderness. You can’t just stroll in there."
Liam gulped again. The words hit him hard, but at the sa ti a small voice in his head said it was better than going in blind. At least she was offering real help and thinking ahead.
Still, he needed ti to wrap his head around it. "That sounds... a lot. Look, give a couple of days to prepare. I need to get my head straight and stock up on a few things."
She nodded without hesitation. "I can wait two days. That works."
Liam nodded back, relief mixing with the nerves in his chest. He glanced over at Director Elena, who had been listening the whole ti.
She waved a hand before he could even speak. "Don’t look at like that. Of course you’re temporarily exempted from academy classes, you and the girls. Handle this."
He gave her a quick nod, then turned and left the room. As he walked down the hallway, the weight of everything settled on him. Two days wasn’t much, but it was sothing.
Since he had the free ti now, he needed to farm a ton of SP before the journey. No point heading out underpowered.
His phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw Vanessa’s na on the screen. He answered right away. "Hey, what’s up?"
" Liam, can you and the girls co over to my place? Sothing strange just happened. I... I don’t know how to explain it over the phone."
He frowned, curiosity kicking in. "Yeah, sure. I’ll head over now." He hung up and kept walking, wondering what could be going on. Vanessa didn’t sound scared exactly, but she definitely sounded off.
The girls caught up with him outside. "Where are you going?" one of them asked.
"Vanessa called. Says sothing weird happened at her house. I’m heading there."
They nodded, understanding flashing across their faces. "Since the journey is in two days, each of us will go get our own stuff ready," one said. "We’ll split up and handle it."
Liam gave them a small smile. "Sounds good. We’ll et back at Director Elena’s in two days, yeah?"
They agreed and waved him off. He slipped his hands into his pockets and started toward Vanessa’s place, the afternoon sun warm on his back.
The walk gave him ti to think. Two days to prep, then straight into monster territory. It felt crazy, but he had no choice now.
He reached her door and knocked. When Vanessa opened it, Liam’s eyes widened. She looked... different. More beautiful than usual, like everything about her had been turned up.
Her curves were fuller, her chest and hips noticeably bigger, the kind of change you couldn’t miss. She stood there in simple clothes, but they fit her new figure in a way that made his brain stall for a second.
Before he could say anything, he stepped inside, gently pulling her with him so the door clicked shut behind them.
Little Rem looked up from the couch. "Big brother? What’s wrong? You look excited."
Liam forced his face to stay normal. "Hey, Rem, your favorite ani girl is on right now. Go watch it, okay?"
Rem’s eyes lit up. "Hey, hey!" she cheered and dashed back to the TV, already glued to the screen.
Liam took Vanessa’s hand and led her straight to the bedroom. He shut the door and locked it, heart beating faster. She turned to him, eyebrows raised. "Did my awakened ability really shock you that much? You’re acting like sothing huge just happened."
He nodded and pulled up her status window with a quick glance. The new ability glowed there clearly: Enchantress. The more sex the ability holder has, the stronger she gets. Sex with stronger male beings gives permanent boosts. Increases from 0.1 percent to 0.5 percent for every sexual act.
Liam cleared his throat. "Yeah, it’s... pretty direct. This ability lets you get stronger by having sex. The more you do it, especially with stronger guys, the bigger the permanent boost."
Vanessa pushed her head down, cheeks turning bright red. "What kind of shaless ability is this? I can’t believe I woke up to sothing like that."
He gave a small, awkward laugh and rubbed his arm. "Trust , I get it. I had my own ’what the hell’ mont when I found out I was the chosen one and everything that ca with it. It feels weird at first, but you get used to the system doing its own thing."
She looked up at him, worry creeping into her eyes. Liam continued, "Listen, in two days I won’t be able to call you. I’m heading to a dangerous place. Big stuff is happening and I have to go."
Vanessa grabbed his shirt, her grip tight. "Where? Why can’t you call ? Tell what’s going on."
He sighed. "It’s complicated. A lot of big things are happening right now and I just... I need to handle it."
She bit her lip, eyes searching his face. Then she stepped back, left the room for a second, and turned up the volu on the TV so Rem’s ani played loud and clear.
She ca back inside, closed the bedroom door behind her, and locked it again.
Liam opened his mouth. "Vanessa, what, "
She cut him off. She grabbed his collar, pulled him close, and kissed him hard, her tongue sliding against his.
