Chapter 67: Chapter 67 n Can’t Say They’re Almost There Chapter 67: Chapter 67 n Can’t Say They’re Almost There Jinzhi finished tidying up simply and left the bedroom. The living room was very quiet. She looked around and then imdiately spotted the breakfast prepared on the dining table.
She couldn’t help but lift the corners of her mouth, walked over to sit down, and browsed through ssages on her phone while eating.
She first responded to Xie Yanchuan’s ssage, telling him she had woken up. However, judging by the ti, Xie Yanchuan was probably in class, so Jinzhi didn’t keep ssaging him to avoid disturbing.
After that, Jinzhi began dealing with so work-related things. In order to co back two days early, she had hurriedly finished all the work she could handle, leaving Assistant Chen and other subordinates to hold the fort whilst she returned ho first.
But even so, there were still so issues that needed her direct attention. Now that she had so free ti, Jinzhi decided to get ahead on her work.
After finishing his class, Yanchuan saw the ssage from Jinzhi and even he didn’t realize that upon seeing her ssage, he involuntarily smiled.
However, when replying to Jinzhi, Yanchuan hesitated for a mont but still decided to answer, “I’m coming back now, will be ho in about twenty minutes.”
It was rely a simple sentence, yet Yanchuan felt it was sowhat ambiguous, especially the word “ho.” He stared at it for a while, and the inexplicably stirring emotion in his heart gradually cald.
He and Jinzhi were not yet married.
But they were going to be married soon, and they would eventually have a ho belonging to just the two of them.
After a while with no reply from Jinzhi, Yanchuan didn’t think much of it and didn’t return to his office, instead, he directly left the school.
Just as he reached the doorstep, Yanchuan sniffed a scent, paying closer attention, it slled like the fus from cooking oil at ho.
His movent to open the door hesitated for a mont as he wondered if Jinzhi was cooking at ho.
Contemplating this, Yanchuan opened the door and the initially faint sll of smoke hit him squarely upon entry, and if that wasn’t all, he heard Jinzhi’s scream!
“Jinzhi!” Yanchuan’s heart skipped a beat, and he instinctively called out, racing towards the kitchen in a few quick steps.
At that mont, the range hood in the kitchen was on, but the air was still smoky, and whatever was in the pot was burnt to a crisp, with oil splattering everywhere.
Jinzhi, holding a spatula in her hand, had attempted several tis to stir the food in the pot but was intimidated by the hot oil spattering in all directions.
Because the pot had been left unstirred, smoke was billowing out, leaving Jinzhi in a complete panic, with nothing to do but scream incessantly.
Fortunately, it was at this mont that Yanchuan arrived. He first pulled Jinzhi behind him, then quickly stepped forward to turn off the stove.
Yanchuan also checked the range hood and turned the exhaust fan up to the highest setting.
“Are you okay?” After dealing with the potential hazard in the kitchen, Yanchuan finally turned to look at Jinzhi, his face filled with concern as he asked.
Jinzhi forced a smile at Yanchuan, feeling terribly embarrassed, as if she were a joke.
Seeing that Jinzhi didn’t respond, Yanchuan stepped forward, took the spatula from her hand, and checked her arm. Her originally delicate and fair arm now showed so small red spots.
Apparently, she had been scalded by the splattered oil. It wasn’t serious, but it was sowhat prominent on Jinzhi’s fair skin.
Still, Yanchuan couldn’t help but frown as though the injury was much more severe.
“Cough, cough!” Xu Jinzhi coughed twice, using it to cover her awkwardness at that mont, “You’re back.”
Xie Yanchuan glanced at Xu Jinzhi, “Go wash up first, then apply so ointnt.”
“No need, it’s nothing.” Xu Jinzhi still felt a bit embarrassed and tried to withdraw her hand.
She had wanted to try cooking a dish for Xie Yanchuan on his birthday since she had never cooked before. Knowing she wasn’t capable of preparing anything complicated, Xu Jinzhi had even searched online for a simple recipe.
Who would have known that a simple stir-fried tomato and eggs could go wrong at the very first step!
She had anticipated failure, thinking at worst she could just throw everything away and pretend as if nothing had happened.
But now Xie Yanchuan had caught her in the act, leaving Xu Jinzhi feeling utterly embarrassed.
Xie Yanchuan didn’t speak, but led Xu Jinzhi to the kitchen counter, turned on the faucet, and then pressed the hand soap to help her wash up.
Xu Jinzhi’s heart fluttered. She looked up at Xie Yanchuan, who was now bowing his head seriously, washing her hands.
His brow was slightly furrowed, clearly worried about her.
Xu Jinzhi couldn’t help but lift the corners of her lips, standing still, letting Xie Yanchuan wash her hands.
After washing her hands, Xie Yanchuan led her out of the kitchen.
“I’ll go get the ointnt,” he said, releasing Xu Jinzhi’s hand and walking over to a cabinet to retrieve the first aid kit, quickly finding the burn cream.
Xie Yanchuan applied the ointnt to the spots where Xu Jinzhi had been burned by the oil.
When he looked up again, he found Xu Jinzhi staring at him intently. Xie Yanchuan blinked and tried to appear nonchalant, “You sit for a while, I’ll go prepare lunch.”
“Today’s your birthday, why don’t we go out to eat instead?” Xu Jinzhi thought of the ss in the kitchen and didn’t fancy letting Xie Yanchuan go back in.
“It’s okay, I’ll be quick.” Xie Yanchuan was used to it; when he had the ti, he didn’t find cooking to be a troubleso task.
“Oh.” Xu Jinzhi initially agreed, then her lips moved slightly. Her expression was complex as if she wanted to say sothing more, “But…”
Xie Yanchuan had already stood up, “There’s fruit in the fridge, should I cut so up for you first?”
“No, let’s just eat later.” Xu Jinzhi declined Xie Yanchuan’s offer.
Xie Yanchuan nodded, ready to turn away when Xu Jinzhi suddenly spoke up, “Oh right, I ant to say, isn’t it said that n shouldn’t brag about being ‘quick’?”
Xie Yanchuan was initially startled, and when he realized what she ant, he couldn’t help but feel his face burning red!
He didn’t understand how Xu Jinzhi could always say such things with such a straight face.
After a brief silence, Xie Yanchuan dropped a “I’ll start cooking” and turned towards the kitchen.
But his retreating figure seed to be fleeing in haste. Xu Jinzhi couldn’t help but laugh out loud in the living room.
