Chapter 258: Chapter 258: Highly Likely Brain Dead

Xie Yanchuan didn’t answer the phone at first, which terrified her, but since she found out he was in a car accident, she hadn’t cried at all.

Xu Zhen knew that Xu Jinzhi was pretending to be strong. She was Yanchuan’s wife, and with his life hanging in the balance, she couldn’t afford to fall apart!

That is why Jinzhi had been insisting on not showing any weakness.

Now that she was crying, she must have been truly scared.

Xu Zhen’s eyes reddened despite himself. He took a deep breath and then reached out to gently touch Xu Jinzhi’s head.

It was as if he was comforting Jinzhi, reminding her that he was there for her, no matter what, he was there.

Ti ticked by, second by second. Yanchuan had been in the operating room for over ten hours now.

They weren’t dical professionals, but they knew what an operation of over ten hours implied—the longer it went on, the more their hearts sank.

Until suddenly, the display outside the operating room changed.

“The surgery’s over!” Xie Xingchuan called out, sowhat agitated.

Everyone stood up when they heard this, their eyes fixed on the doors of the operating room.

A dozen seconds later, the doors of the operating room opened, and a doctor erged. Everyone surged forward in an instant.

“Doctor, how did it go?” Xie Suian was the first to ask, and then everyone fell silent, waiting for the doctor’s response.

The doctor was wearing a mask, so they couldn’t see his expression, but the seriousness of the mood was palpable, and it was this gravity that made their hearts pound all the faster.

Xu Jinzhi stared intently at the doctor, biting her teeth hard, just waiting for him to give her an answer.

The doctor let out a heavy sigh, “The patient is temporarily stable for now, but the prognosis isn’t good. If he doesn’t wake up within forty-eight hours, there is a very high likelihood of brain death.”

After the doctor’s words were spoken, everyone’s expressions were mixed, but Xu Jinzhi was drained of strength and collapsed.

Fortunately, Xu Zhen was right by her side and quickly caught her, “Jinzhi, what’s wrong?”

Xu Jinzhi didn’t speak, breathing rapidly as if she couldn’t catch her breath.

She had reached her limit amid the high-strung tension that had persisted until now.

Xu Zhen hastily helped her sit down on a nearby chair, “Don’t get worked up. Although the doctor said that, at the very least it proves Yanchuan has been resuscitated.”

“If he can make it through this, then he can definitely wake up!”

Xu Zhen assured her with conviction, although he did not actually know whether Yanchuan would wake up or not. He was just trying to comfort Xu Jinzhi for now.

Xu Jinzhi didn’t say anything. She just closed her eyes.

Perhaps unlike the others, upon hearing Yanchuan’s current condition, she truly felt a sense of relief.

Just like Xu Zhen said, if he was alive, then he could certainly wake up.

He definitely can wake up!

Xie Yanchuan was taken to the Intensive Care Unit, and since it was a sterile room, too many people couldn’t be allowed in.

In the end, only Xu Jinzhi made it to the ICU.

Xu Jinzhi stared at Xie Yanchuan through the glass from a distance. She wondered if it was her imagination when, as she leaned on the window, her breath fogged the glass, blurring her vision.

Wanting to see more clearly, Xu Jinzhi raised her hand to wipe the glass, then continued to watch. However, this ti Xu Jinzhi’s breaths beca shallower, worried that her breathing would cloud her sight.

At this mont, Xie Yanchuan lay on the hospital bed, his forehead still wrapped in gauze, his cheeks also injured, and wearing an oxygen mask.

Not only that, but his body was connected to many wires, his vital signs being monitored in all aspects.

Xu Jinzhi just watched like this. It seed she wasn’t very scared, just felt a bit like crying.

She continued to watch through the glass for a long, long ti until a nurse ca to remind her, “Excuse , ti’s almost up, you need to leave now.”

Xu Jinzhi then ca back to her senses. Not sure if it was due to exhaustion or sothing else, Xu Jinzhi was a bit slow to react. After looking at the nurse for several seconds, she eventually said softly, “Okay.”

The nurse didn’t say much more. She worked in the ICU, such matters she faced every day, yet even so, the nurse hadn’t beco insensitive, she still could understand the feelings of the patient’s family.

Before leaving, Xu Jinzhi sincerely requested of the nurse, “Please take good care of him.”

After speaking, Xu Jinzhi bowed to the nurse, stood up straight after a mont, and then turned to leave.

Outside the ICU, everyone had stayed; upon Xu Jinzhi’s exit, they all looked at her expectantly, seeming to want to know Xie Yanchuan’s condition from Xu Jinzhi’s mouth.

But Xu Jinzhi, looking at them, couldn’t manage to say a word.

Finally, Xu Jinzhi heaved a deep sigh, her voice hoarse and weak, “You all go back first.”

No one spoke.

They knew they couldn’t do anything by being here now, but they couldn’t just leave either.

After all, lying in the ICU at this mont, possibly never to wake and at risk of brain death, wasn’t soone unimportant.

They couldn’t leave.

Xu Jinzhi didn’t want to persuade them either because she truly didn’t have any extra energy – she still needed to wait for Xie Yanchuan to wake.

Seeing that they remained silent, Xu Jinzhi walked past them and sat down on a chair to the side.

The wintry days were cold, the chair made of iron, and sitting like this was also cold, but Xu Jinzhi seed to feel nothing. Once seated, she kept her gaze on the door to the ICU.

The others looked at one another, uncertain what to do at this mont.

Finally, it was Xu Zhen who approached Xu Jinzhi. Xu Zhen sat down beside her and stretched out his sowhat rough hands to hold Xu Jinzhi’s.

Feeling that Xu Jinzhi’s fingers were cold as ice, as if they had just been taken out of the freezer, Xu Zhen was imnsely distressed.

He took a deep breath and negotiated with Xu Jinzhi, “Jinzhi, you should go back and rest for a while too. Dad will stay here. You can co and replace Dad in the morning, okay?”

Xu Jinzhi shook her head without hesitation, “I don’t want to; I won’t go. I want to stay here and wait for Xie Yanchuan to wake up.”

Xu Jinzhi said this with determination, without a trace of wavering in her voice.

“But Jinzhi, you can’t go on like this,” Xu Zhen said helplessly. He understood Xu Jinzhi’s current worries, but after all, they were re mortals. Not eating, not drinking, not resting was simply impossible.
