Since Theodore couldn’t see Victor before, he returned to their base centre’s headquarters today to see him. Based on what the soldier said yesterday, Theodore might be able to see Victor today.
The military base was very crowded even though it was early in the morning like this; from the chatter Theodore heard along this road, people still intended to travel out of the base to do so looting.
But from what he heard, the people who were already inside the base could no longer go out at this ti. When he heard about this, Theodore was quite surprised.
Shouldn’t the base aggressively send people out to get more supplies to build itself up?
"What’s going on now? Didn’t they still allow people to leave the base recently?"
"I don’t know. I feel uneasy about them not letting us go out."
"I heard a problem, so the military forbids us to go out!"
"Is that so? What’s going on?"
Theodore unintentionally overheard the conversation of the people around him. He intended to overhear the conversation for a while longer, but his activity was interrupted when he heard soone calling him from a distance.
Theodore turned around to find out who had called him. He saw Roderick’s figure walking towards him, not far from his current position.
"I didn’t know you had returned to base. When did you arrive?" Roderick imdiately greeted Theodore when he was near him.
"Yesterday. I happened to et you here. There’s sothing I need to ask you," Theodore said later.
Roderick raised his eyebrows when he heard that, already guessing what Theodore would ask him. He invited Theodore to another place.
"We’d better go sowhere else. It’s too crowded here." Roderick also walked, leading the way ahead.
Theodore had no objection to that and followed Roderick from behind; he also wanted to avoid others hearing what they would discuss.
So that they could talk safely, Roderick led Theodore towards the barracks of their group. By being there, they could talk more freely.
"Do you want to ask about the captain?" Roderick guessed that one of Theodore’s questions was about the captain of their group.
"Not wrong, but that’s not the only issue I wanted to ask you about," Theodore replied as he nodded, not denying Roderick’s question.
"That’s to be expected. I’m sure you’ve heard the rumours around the base," Roderick replied casually; there were already plenty of people talking about the weirdness at the base these days anyway.
"So what exactly happened while I was gone? I heard you guys have banned people from going outside the base." Since Roderick did not hide this from him, Theodore imdiately took this opportunity to dig up information from Roderick.
"Regarding that, we’ve gotten many reports that there were many deaths that occurred in the group that went outside the base. Almost all the remaining groups returned to the base with only half their mbers," Roderick explained with a grim face.
No matter what, the base still needs the labour it can get from the population inside it. If everyone chose to leave the base and only half returned, they would eventually lose everyone if this problem continued.
The military couldn’t just let people die, so they decided to tighten the rules on who could leave the base.
However, it seed that the residents were suspecting the base because of this, so it beca the talk of the town.
"No wonder you guys are worried about this matter. I also heard earlier that it would be difficult for the group that is already outside to enter the base. Is that true?" Theodore still rembered what the soldier he t earlier said.
"Ahh, if it’s because so groups don’t say that their group mbers are injured. So a few days ago, there was almost another zombie outbreak inside the base," Roderick replied, not too happy when he said that.
"It looks like you need to build a quarantine area around the entrance gate to prevent sothing like this from happening." Theodore understood that regarding this matter, there would definitely be fools who hid the fact that they had been infected with the zombie virus.
"You’d better see the captain right away. He’s eagerly awaiting news from you and Cassian," Roderick said, then told Theodore to see Victor imdiately.
"Is he in his office?"
"Yes, you can et him in his quarters."
After discovering Victor’s whereabouts, Theodore imdiately said goodbye to Roderick and walked towards Victor’s room. Theodore realised that the barracks looked quite different from what he rembered last ti.
Fortunately, Victor’s room was still in the sa place. Theodore knocked on the door of Victor’s room and only dared enter when Victor had allowed him to.
"What brings you here, Roderick?" Victor’s heavy voice was not too happy to have soone co to disturb him.
"I’ve co to report our findings while outside the base," Theodore said, imdiately stating his purpose for coming without explaining that he was not Roderick.
Victor stopped his hand that was checking the docunts on his desk. Sothing felt strange, and the voice didn’t sound like Roderick’s monotonous voice. Slowly, Victor looked up with his usual cold face.
"Oh my! It turns out you are back. Why did you co here alone? Where’s Cassian?" Victor glanced behind Theodore, but he didn’t find anyone else who had co with him.
"I decided to go ho first, so Cassian and his team still have sowhere else to be," Theodore replied again, explaining why he was the only one there.
"Apparently, he decided to go to that place. Cassian told you to report to ?" Victor nodded his head in understanding. He was also quite curious why Theodore had volunteered to co to him.
"Think of it that way. If you don’t want to hear my report, then I’ll gladly co back," Theodore said as he tugged at the corner of his lips.
Victor rolled his eyes lazily, "Your information will be wasted if you go straight ho. Tell , I will listen," Victor replied, inviting Theodore to tell him what information he had.
Theodore grinned when he heard Victor’s words; although he already knew the outline of the problem in the base, he was sure there was still a more significant problem at this ti.
Information like that must only be known by soone with power in the base, so Theodore knew that Victor must know sothing about it.
"Surely you didn’t think I’d tell you that for nothing, did you?" Theodore looked at Victor casually with a smirk still hanging on his lips.
When he heard Victor almost laugh, he had to clear his throat softly to hold back his urge to laugh.
"It seems like going off base is making you even more clueless. What do you want from ?" Victor leaned his back and looked at Theodore with a reproachful gaze.
"Information for information, isn’t that the norm?" Theodore smiled broadly, unperturbed by Victor’s glare.
If Theodore had not acted like this, he probably wouldn’t have been able to get information from Victor. After all, he didn’t work in the military, so there was no harm in him threatening Victor like this.
