"Not only that,"
Qin Yi shook his head, a aningful look in his eyes, "The one hundred thousand troops dispatched by Qin Zitong are led not only by Jun Ruochen as the main General but there is also an additional Deputy General sent along to supervise the military operations."
"Who is the Deputy General, and who is the military supervisor?"
"The military supervisor is Qin Zitong’s eldest son, who is currently conferred the title of Virtuous King, Qin Feimo. As for the Deputy General, you know him as well."
"Who?"
"Lord Zhang."
Upon hearing this, Su Pan’er naturally understood Qin Yi’s implication.
Originally, Lord Zhang had joined them in supporting Qin Feimo’s succession to the throne. However, after Qin Feimo issued a self-incriminating edict three years ago, asking to step down and beco the Virtuous King, several courtiers by his side also fell to Qin Zitong, becoming high officials. Lord Zhang was one of them. Having served three dynasties, even when Qin Zitong took him away, Lord Zhang continued to enjoy a high position and wealth, and his status remained prestigious. Now that Qin Zitong was dispatching the Great Army to attack the Wung Departnt, they must first pass by Deicide Mountain, traveling near Qin Yi’s troop encampnts.
Qin Hong and the couple had so minor conflicts. Indeed, if the two armies encountered each other, a fierce battle would be inevitable.
"You an... Qin Zitong is killing two birds with one stone?"
"I’m afraid it’s more than that."
Qin Yi shook his head, his eyes still heavy with concern, brows knitted in worry.
Su Pan’er raised her head and looked at the man beside her with his serious and resolute features; a thought suddenly flashed through her mind, "Who is the main commander appointed by the King of Wung?"
Qin Yi’s eyebrows rose, his eyes full of admiration.
She truly was the woman who had caught Qin Yi’s eye, quickly perceiving the crux of the matter.
He couldn’t help but reach out and intertwine his hand with hers.
"It’s Huang Weixin."
Seeing the puzzled look on Su Pan’er’s face, he let out a resigned smile and began to explain the background of this Huang Weixin.
Huang Weixin was originally the cousin of the Forr Imperial Consort Hua; and the Forr Imperial Consort’s maternal family was an aristocratic family for generations. In this generation, as male heirs dwindled, a male infant was adopted from a Branch Family, and that was him. Huang Weixin grew up imrsed in poetry and literature, imnsely talented and greatly valued by the late Emperor, who appointed him as a Censor-in-chief. The late Emperor personally assigned him to assist the King of Wung in handling matters, his actual responsibility being to monitor the movents of the feudal lords.
Upon the Death of the Emperor, the feudal lords all over the country rose up. As soon as Qin Zitong entered the capital, he began purging these officials who were long considered thorns in the eye and flesh of the feudal lords! And the entire Huang Family was slaughtered under the blade of Qin Zitong.
After receiving the news, Huang Weixin, who was still resisting, suddenly spewed a mouthful of blood!
With an angry curse, "Qin Zitong, you despicable fiend, may you die a terrible death!" he imdiately defected to the King of Wung. With Qin Zitong now deploying Jun Ruochen, Lord Zhang, and Qin Hong, if anyone believes it’s simply to subdue the Wung Departnt, they are sadly mistaken!
Not only that, but the supervisor of the military, Qin Hong, just happens to be the uncle of the Wung Departnt’s main General.
Qin Zitong’s move can’t be considered anything but astute, using rely one hundred thousand troops to make use of nearly all the forces of Great Zhou Dynasty that had yet to be subdued.
"So, Qin Feimo, rely fourteen years old, already possesses the ability to supervise an army? Heh, Qin Zitong really plays everyone like a fiddle!"
Su Pan’er expressed her great astonishnt!
She didn’t know what the Virtuous King might be thinking about his fate-stricken uncle at the mont, but now that the news had reached here, the command must have already been issued.
With Jun Ruochen there, with Qin Feimo there, how easy the battle would be, and whether they might dispose of Qin Yi while passing through his encamped troops, was anyone’s guess.
"I have already discussed it with several aides."
Qin Yi originally did not want to inform Su Pan’er but after so thought, he still spoke, "We all think that as Young Mister Qin gave the order to Jun Ruochen to lead one hundred thousand troops against the King of Wung, he must also have received the order to annihilate us. As for who is primary and who is secondary, that remains unknown."
"Since they have co, let them be settled!"
In Su Pan’er’s eyes, there was nothing but a desire to fight, her dewy eyes sparkling with spirit.
"If they dare to co, then let the battle begin!"
Train soldiers for thousands of days and use them for just a mont.
After three years of rest and recuperation, whether it was a mule or a horse, it was ti to take them out for a walk!
"It is said that before setting off, Jun Ruochen swore an oath in front of all the Civil and Military Officials of the court."
Qin Yi’s face took on a color of undeclared significance, "If the Wung Departnt loses this battle, they will certainly have to step over Huang Weixin’s corpse to advance, and the Virtuous King would be as good as having personally slain his own uncle. Conversely, if they lose, the suspicion of favoritism and collusion with the enemy will naturally fall upon the Virtuous King! I’m afraid that by then, even the Virtuous King’s life may not be safe."
"Indeed! Young Mister Qin truly leaves no stone unturned in his planning!"
What is killing two birds with one stone? This is killing several birds with one stone! Su Pan’er exclaid in admiration!
Young Mister Qin’s chess move is grand! He only needs to stand aside and watch. Regardless of how this battle ends, whether in victory or defeat, he will be the biggest winner!
Originally, there were already barriers between them, Qin Feimo, Jun Ruochen, and Lord Zhang, but this event would further intensify the conflicts between the two sides. Young Mister Qin used a re one hundred thousand troops as a funeral offering, clearing out most of the remaining powers!
What remained was the ti for him to settle the total account with his own son!
"Are you prepared?"
Su Pan’er frowned and tilted her head to look at him seriously.
Qin Yi obviously had complex emotions and struggled to decide. However, after hesitating for a mont, he still spoke.
"I’m planning to join forces with the King of Wung."
"The King of Wung? Do you think he is a suitable ally? I have heard people say that this man has always considered himself above others, not easy to deal with."
Would joining forces with him be too risky? Based on the rumors of the King of Wung, without even eting face to face, to make such a decision abruptly, was it worth entrusting their lives and wealth?
Qin Yi naturally knew what Su Pan’er was worried about.
However, at the mont, they had no choice but to agree. His troops were now stationed at the foot of Deicide Mountain, which strategically beca the first station for the troops led by Jun Ruochen. Defeating them would an that the Wung Departnt would lose its barrier.
"I’ve already inford our troops to prepare for a tough battle. So, at a ti like this, that batch of warhorses becos extrely precious! I’m planning to set out in a few days to personally exchange these warhorses. And at the sa ti, to et the King of Wung in person!"
He wanted to convince the King of Wung; he had to make this trip.
He held Su Pan’er’s small hand and slowly walked back. When they crossed a ditch, he squatted down holding Su Pan’er’s hand, set down the bamboo basket, and carefully washed the dirt from between her fingers.
Su Pan’er quietly watched, feeling the cool spring water slowly slipping through her fingers.
Eventually, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
Then suddenly opening them, she said, "No matter what, you must rember one thing! Whether it’s the warhorses or the war, those are secondary. Little Yanyan and I are both here waiting for you, waiting for you to co back. Little Yanyan can’t be without her father, and I, Su Pan’er, don’t want to beco a widow! Do you understand?"
