85. Distracting Thoughts
There were no alchemy classes in the first few days, so the students of Class 3 didn't know Yuan.
And Yuan never expected that during her very first class, she would inexplicably beco a horoom teacher and get singled out by Zi Yan for no apparent reason.
Aaaaaah, I just want to do alchemy! I don't want to get involved in your battles!
Yuan could feel Anmir's scrutinizing gaze and Zi Yan's threatening glare. The pressure was imnse.
This was truly a case of gods fighting while mortals suffered.
And so, amidst the sympathetic looks from the other Class 3 teachers, the eting ended. Yuan rushed to Class 3 in a hurry.
"Who is the Class Monitor? Let see."
Yuan recalled Zi Yan's words and didn't dare slack off in the slightest.
She had to serve this little ancestor well. Her own foul mouth would need to be reined in too, otherwise if she said sothing wrong, she'd be in for it.
"That's , teacher."
ng Lian heard this and quickly stood up.
When Yuan saw ng Lian, her eyes instantly lit up.
Damn, she's really freaking gorgeous!
Yuan thought of Zi Yan's reputation, and a wicked idea was born in her mind.
Say, is it possible...
ng Lian didn't know what Yuan was thinking right now. She just felt that the way Yuan was staring at her was kind of creepy.
"Never mind. Here's the thing, whoever was a class officer before stays a class officer. Nothing changes."
"Alright, enough chitchat, let's start class. I happen to teach you alchemy too."
Yuan put away her wicked thoughts and began the lesson.
Since alchemy class required alchemy tools, but the students of Class 3 hadn't bought them in advance, Yuan just lectured on the basic theoretical knowledge first, then assigned howork for them to purchase their alchemy equipnt.
"Phew, class is finally over."
When the bell rang, Yuan breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly left.
After Yuan's retreating figure disappeared from view, the classroom imdiately beca noisy. Everyone was discussing the Sky-Reaching Tower and Huixing Harbor, and so were guessing where Bai Wei had gone. For a mont, the classroom was like a vegetable market, buzzing with chatter.
"Class Monitor, do you think our original horoom teacher might be..."
At this mont, Shen Ning continued the topic from before class. Her small face was mysterious as she leaned close to ng Lian's ear and softly spoke two words that made ng Lian's heart tremble.
"...An undercover agent."
"No way... How did you co up with the idea that teacher is... you know?"
ng Lian forced herself to stay calm, but she also felt puzzled.
Logically speaking, ordinary people wouldn't connect last night's events to undercover agents. Since she had been at Huixing Harbor with Tao Yao last night, she guessed that the Sky-Reaching Tower might also be a site for capturing Great Witch undercover agents. But these were all just guesses. How did Shen Ning co up with this connection?
"Hehehe, I overheard it from a client last night."
It turned out that the person who had booked Shen Ning last night was from the Student Council, a little lolita from the Law Enforcent Departnt. Just when the little lolita was working hard plowing Shen Ning's field, soone suddenly called her.
"Who is it?"
"...Co quick, not enough people here... undercover agents... Huixing Harbor..."
"Oh, you're from the Logistics Departnt?"
The Student Council was divided into three major departnts: the Logistics Departnt, the Law Enforcent Departnt, and the Justice Departnt.
The Logistics Departnt managed all the academy's supplies. The Law Enforcent Departnt was the academy's violent apparatus, specifically arresting those who violated academy rules. And the Justice Departnt was responsible for trials.
These three departnts kept each other in check. Their factional struggles were intense, and none would submit to the others. When the little lolita heard the caller was from the Logistics Departnt, she hung up imdiately.
Shen Ning heard what sounded like cursing on the other end of the line.
"Is that really okay?"
Shen Ning was a bit confused about the little lolita's approach. Logically speaking, capturing undercover agents should be the Law Enforcent Departnt's job, right? How did it beco the Logistics Departnt's business, while the Law Enforcent Departnt was out visiting the Witch House?
"h, what could happen? Our minister said this has nothing to do with us. The main issue is at the Sky-Reaching Tower... Anyway, it's the Logistics Departnt sticking their nose where it doesn't belong. No worries, underclassman, let's continue, hehehe..."
"You're so annoying..."
"So, I think the horoom teacher might have been caught."
The speaker ant nothing by it, but the listener took it to heart. Waves of shock surged through ng Lian's mind.
Bai Wei was an undercover agent!
Bai Wei was actually an undercover agent!
There was an undercover agent from the Alliance right beside her!
And a Great Witch undercover agent at that!
ng Lian's little heart pounded furiously. Another guess in her mind gained the upper hand.
Could I really be a hidden piece?
Was Bai Wei my contact person?
Did Bai Wei expose herself to protect ?
No, no...
This guess was too ridiculous...
But ridiculous or not, it was still more appealing than that guess about being abandoned by the Alliance.
ng Lian was like a traveler dying of thirst in the desert. Even knowing full well that the water source before her eyes was a mirage, she still chose to believe in it.
Because she didn't want to accept that cruel reality.
Actually, this guess had many holes. For example, she was just an ordinary person, so why would she be a hidden piece? Bai Wei was a Great Witch, definitely more important than her no matter how you looked at it. Why would she choose to expose herself for ng Lian's sake? And the guess about being a contact person was even more far-fetched. If Bai Wei really was a contact person, why didn't she approach her earlier and reveal her identity?
ng Lian was becoming a bit delusional now. In her world, she was the Alliance's hidden piece that would decide victory or defeat, an important role that Bai Wei would sacrifice herself to protect, the savior of the Alliance!
What if... you really were abandoned?
Just as ng Lian was imrsed in this false joy, a voice suddenly rang out inappropriately.
No, that's not it!
I'm an undercover agent, an undercover agent for the Alliance. How could the Alliance just abandon ?
Is that so? Then why isn't your na on the list? Why did Bai Wei never reveal her identity from beginning to end?
That's because I'm a hidden piece, the one who will decide the final outco...
Haha, do you even believe what you're saying?
Distracting thoughts grew like wild grass. That voice laughed maniacally, full of mockery.
"No!"
ng Lian's breathing quickened, her mind drifting. She suddenly stood up and shouted loudly, completely forgetting that this was during class ti, and it was Busuan's divination class.
At that mont, Busuan was bragging about her past glorious "battle achievents." Being suddenly roared at by ng Lian like this, she was nearly scared out of her wits.
What are you doing?!
Even if I am bragging, you don't have to announce it so loudly!
Don't I have any dignity left?
"Cough cough, although so of my stories may be a bit exaggerated, student ng Lian, please don't take it so seriously~ Haha... let's continue with class."
Busuan laughed awkwardly. Rembering that ng Lian was Zi Yan's disciple, she sighed and continued her dry and boring divination class.
"Ahhhh!"
The rest of the class groaned. Originally, Busuan thought divination was a pretty lax subject, just telling so tall tales to pass the ti. But after being disrupted by ng Lian, they had to listen to those boring divination theories again.
For a mont, quite a few people looked at ng Lian with hostility.
ng Lian also realized what she had done and knew she might have angered the crowd. She quickly apologized and sat back down.
Fortunately, this accidentally provided an explanation for her sudden outburst.
"ng Lian..."
Behind her, Gabriel watched ng Lian's behavior and thought back to last night when ng Lian had seed so distracted. She knew that ng Lian must still be troubled by what happened last night.
