"Welco ho, old friend." Leo opened the cardboard box.
Inside the box, there was the thing which had helped him start this entire journey. It was also his most precious possession throughout his life.
It was the only thing of value he possessed when he had nothing. The thing that he had to sell to find his misadventures.
His fingers brushed against the plastic surface of the gaming console. It was the 2030s era super station 7. In the modern era, it was considered a vintage.
People only collected them, but barely anyone used them since the graphics of that ancient era couldn’t compare to modern virtual reality gas.
It was the only thing that was left by his family when he wasn’t even old enough to speak. He didn’t even rember the face of that family. Yet, this thing had still beco his family heirloom, albeit in the family of only one.
Leo brought the gaming console out of the box, and brought it closer to the antique LED television which was much easier to find than these consoles.
He connected the console, and walked back to the seat. After a long ti, a subtle smile of nostalgia returned to his face, suppressing his feeling of discomfort.
He didn’t even bother to dry his clothes as he sat before the television with a controller in his hand, watching the nas slowly load.
The familiar sounds, and the movents of a ga which was considered too old for this era, brought such a sweet feeling in Leo’s heart.
Next to him, there was a vacant controller that could’ve been used by a second person. Yet Leo didn’t look at it, since it made him think what it would’ve been like if he had parents to play this ga with in his childhood.
In this movent, he didn’t want to think of any bad mories. He only wanted to lose himself in the ga, trying to forget everything about Triton Industries before he drowned in depression.
Leo played the gas throughout the day, and it seed to work. He did feel a lot lighter in his heart. His hands, which felt like they were covered in blood, were holding the joystick and fighting digital enemies.
After a long ti, he stopped playing when he reached the end of the ga. The end credits started playing while Leo placed the controller down.
He stood up, stretching his arms while yawning. He sat on the throne, and closed his eyes, exhaustion written all over his face.
With a nostalgic smile on his face, he returned to the sweet embrace of sleep. He thought he would finally have a decent sleep as he was in a decent mood.
It was unclear how much ti had passed before Leo abruptly woke up, his entire body drenched in sweat, including his forehead.
"Fuck off! I didn’t kill you!" He roared, having woken up from a nightmare. His heartbeat was racing.
In the dream, people that he had never seen before, were surrounding him, blaming him for their deaths. And the number of people was so large that he couldn’t even count.
It was as if multiple civilizations had gathered before him to drag his soul back to hell.
He saw himself being tied to chains and being dragged into a frightening looking door. It was only when he was almost inside that he woke up, still feeling as if the dream was a little too realistic for comfort.
"It has to be a coincidence! How can a little misfortune destroy an entire planet! Stop blaming for everything!!!"
His own conscience was the problem. Even though he had repented, and felt the worst that he could, that feeling eventually returned. At this point, Leo was more angry than he was guilty.
After all, it wasn’t as if he personally sliced their planet in half! Even if it was because of his skill, it was a passive skill that he had no control over!
"I can’t let this freaking feeling ruin my life forever! Fuck these feelings?" He reached out his hand, and finally took external help, grabbing the hilt of the Sword.
In an instant, all his chaotic emotions were stabilized. His thoughts that were all over the place, beca clear. Even his thought process changed from relying on emotions like guilt, to cold profit.
His fingers caressed the sharp blade as he mumbled, "If one ship reactor malfunction can destroy your entire planet, then I think you have bigger problems to worry about than blaming ."
Now that he was more rational, he was able to think a lot clearly. As for the idea about abandoning the system and returning to the life of diocrity... He could only laugh at that weak thought.
"If I returned to poverty, would that erase all misfortune from this world? Rather than being at the rcy of this misfortune, I would be the one that controls this to my benefit."
Earth was a mid tier planet, and even there, a re fight between two heroes could destroy thousands of lives!
He wasn’t a superhero that could protect himself. Even this sword was an external gift. The only thing that could truly belong to him was the system and the wealth it granted.
"To protect myself, I must not waver! Wealth is my superpower, and I need to strengthen this superpower to the limit!"
"Only then can I stop! If you want to drag to hell for this, then you better wait in line! Because I won’t let myself die anyti soon... Not at the rcy of others!"
"Even if it takes a long ti... Even if it takes decades and multiple planets as my stepping stones, I will take my rightful throne!"
Leo instilled this teaching in his heart and made a promise to never question these, no matter how much his conscience grieved!
If he was a nation, then these words were the constitution which even he couldn’t question!
Leo released Voldred’s Sword, and suddenly, all those chaotic feelings returned. But this ti, he just recited the promise to himself.
"Wealth is my superpower! And I will make it the strongest superpower to ever exist!"
