"You saved my life. How can I let you go without rewarding you? Get in." Leo reached a hand out toward Kaelus. "From now on, you’ll be working for . I’m hiring you as my bodyguard."
"What?" Kaelus pretended to be shocked, even though this was exactly what he wanted.
"You saved my life, so you are already more than qualified," Leo said, carefully hiding the fact that he was already suspicious of Kaelus’s identity.
Even though Kaelus acted shocked, he grabbed Leo’s hand and was pulled inside Timmy’s ship.
It was the start of a new brotherhood where one person wanted to beco the main protagonist, the wealthy, face-slapping hero of the story, while the other simply wanted to use the so-called protagonist who thought he was good at acting.
Both of them had sothing to gain from this arrangent, but neither was aware of the end destination of this partnership, nor the significance it would hold in the grand sche of things to co.
"Are you alright with a poor person like ?" Kaelus asked as the ship’s door started closing.
"Why wouldn’t I be? You clearly saved my life. So what if you’re poor? I don’t judge people based on their wealth," Leo stated, only to notice Kaelus’s expression go cold for a split second.
’What is this? Why does he look upset that I don’t judge him for his poverty? Just what’s going on in his head?’ Leo was taken aback by the reaction.
anwhile, Kaelus was feeling disappointed. He wanted an arrogant man who would mock him and take the opportunities that belonged to him, only to eventually kick him out. If Leo wasn’t that kind of person, hadn’t the entire script gone wrong from the beginning?
Didn’t this beco a story of gaining a wealthy ally, rather than a story of being looked down on?
Leo didn’t know what was going on, but he took a risk to test sothing.
"Of course, it’s also because you don’t have anything for to even look down on. You’re a pathetic beggar who needs to suck up to like a parasite. Isn’t that why you saved my life?"
He wasn’t sure if this approach was wise, but to his surprise, it worked. He saw the corner of Kaelus’s lips creep up. The man looked like he was struggling hard to control his expression.
The fuck? Is he a masochist?! Just what kind of son do you have, Voldred? Leo didn’t know how to react to the realization. He could only think about Voldred with pity in his eyes.
Leo’s mind was a ss. He didn’t understand what kind of person Kaelus was. Why was he happy when people looked down on him? What was he planning by approaching him?
Did he already know that his father had given Leo the responsibility to look for him? It shouldn’t have been that easy to find out, since Leo had left the sword and every reward he received from Voldred back on the ship. He didn’t carry anything that could possess Voldred’s aura.
So why? Was it a coincidence that they just happened to et? Could he really be that lucky?
’It looks like I will need to pay more attention to him to figure out his aim."
Sighing, Leo walked past Kaelus and took a seat.
Kaelus followed suit and tried to take a nearby seat, only for Leo to ask, "What do you think you’re doing?"
"Sitting down?" Kaelus answered with confusion.
"You, a re bodyguard, think you can sit at the sa level as ? Go and stand behind like the good servant you are."
Since Kaelus seed to like this kind of roleplay, Leo played along, giving him what he wanted. He played along, even though these dialogues made him feel cringe to the point that a part of his soul felt like it was dying from cringe.
During the entire process, he kept observing Kaelus closely, watching for even the slightest change in expression.
Just as he had expected, there was no displeasure on Kaelus’s face. He looked like he wanted exactly this. He simply lowered his head and walked behind Leo.
This is giving a headache. I thought I could treat him like a little brother and get close to him. Who would’ve thought that I would have to act like an arrogant young master in so tragic fantasy?
Leo rubbed his forehead and closed his eyes to stop thinking about it for now.
Timmy’s ship rose into the air, following an unstable path. Several tis, the ship suddenly lost altitude, startling Leo and making him feel like they were going to crash.
Fortunately, Timmy kept regaining control just in ti, keeping the ship airborne. Often, the hull barely touched the ground before rising again. At tis, smoke could even be seen trailing from the ship as it left a zigzag pattern in the sky.
"My dear Timmy, are you sure this is a ship and not a flying coffin?" Leo asked, the frown on his forehead deepening.
Behind him was the son of Voldred, whose unknown motives were giving him a headache. And before him was Timmy, who looked like he was fighting for his life to control this ship.
"Didn’t I invest a lot in your company? If I’m not wrong, you were also promoted. So why are you still flying this rollercoaster?"
"Uh, this..." Timmy paused, unable to continue. It looked like he was truly struggling with whether he should tell Leo the truth.
"Did sothing happen?" Leo asked, his tone growing stern. "Don’t forget that I also own half of Glitzy Delivery Service. Tell what happened. Even after months have passed, why are you still flying this?"
"Actually..."
Timmy felt conflicted. Before coming to escort Leo, he had promised his boss that he wouldn’t tell Leo about this. Could he really break that promise? If he lied to the other owner, would he be fired?
Timmy’s hesitation made Leo even more certain that sothing had gone wrong.
"Will you answer , or should I ask the so-called owner of Glitzy myself? I would also make sure to tell him that you’re the one who told about it."
"The credits that you invested in the company... We did order new ships with them. But the ships never arrived. We were scamd, and the company that we ordered from simply disappeared... So we are back to square one."
"You were robbed of my investnt?" Leo covered his face. The company was even more incompetent than he had thought. And he loved it!
’It looks like my passive skill is working a little too well.’
Although he was disappointed that he couldn’t have a few decent ships for Timmy to fly, didn’t this an that the company had lost even more of his money, reducing any chance of even accidental success?
"Just that? And you were worried that I would scold you people? Is that why you kept it hidden?"
"Yes. Please don’t scold the boss. He did everything he could. He’s not to be blad. So please don’t tell him anything! We will do everything in our power, even work overti, to earn so money again."
Timmy sounded like he was on the verge of crying. Fortunately, he wasn’t facing Leo, so both could keep their true expressions hidden from each other.
"What was the na of the company?" Leo asked.
"GSML," Timmy answered.
Leo only wanted the na so he could search for the company; if they had the potential to steal his credits, they were worth keeping an eye on.
He didn’t expect that as soon as the na was uttered, Kaelus would start coughing uncontrollably.
Leo raised a brow and looked back at Kaelus, who wore a guilty look.
Don’t tell he’s the reason that company disappeared... Leo didn’t know how to react. Should he console Timmy for the company’s loss, or should he congratulate the culprit for making him lose more credits?
In the end, he simply sighed and kept his mouth shut, choosing not to interfere in the flow of things.
He only opened his eyes when he was inford that they had arrived at their destination. The smoking ship landed on the space station, and the gate opened.
Leo stepped out of the ship, hands in his pockets. He didn’t expect a grand welco, as he was just an ordinary, anonymous person trying to take a new, unknown company public.
Unfortunately, he was quite surprised to find an entire entourage present to welco him.
"Hmm? Is this how they welco even the lowest tier of company owners? They must be really passionate about their work."
Leo shook hands with the person standing in the lead.
"It’s a pleasure to et you."
"Sa here. I’ve heard so much about you."
"I’ve heard a lot about you as well. It’s good to et you."
The two n kept shaking hands, each waiting for the other to release. In the end, it was Leo who had to let go, since the man didn’t look like he had any intention of stopping.
The man escorted Leo through the crowd and brought him to the room where the final procedure was to be completed.
A single biotric scan was all it took before the company was finally listed.
"Will you excuse for a minute? I need to use the washroom."
"Please. It’s the first door on the right."
The manager allowed Leo to leave. Leo rushed through the corridor; he had to buy his own shares imdiately.
As soon as he entered the washroom, he locked the door from the inside and called forth the little manager of his bank, unaware of the surprise he was in for.
