That evening, about an hour before the rehearsal dinner was to begin, I was still in Kira's room, helping her fit into her impossibly tight gown. I had watched her make herself up and clean it up countless tis already, and while I was happy that we were about to go off to dinner, I still had unfinished business with her.

"Can you stay still for a second?" I said as I struggled with the zipper of her gown.

She leaned forward, giving the dress more room so that I pushed the zipper up until it closed and then disappeared into the folds of the dress. I stepped back to admire the dress, it was a long shimry gown that clung to her body like second skin. The dress accentuated her curves, hugging her body snugly and giving her bosom a sexy lift. There were rubies at several points of the dress that caught the lights when she turned and twirled. She calmly ran her hands over the length of the dress, looking at her reflection in the mirror.

"What do you think?" She asked.

I shrugged as I sat back down on the bed, "what's there to think? Even a troll would look sexy in this gown. Babe, you're beautiful as hell, darling."

"You think?" She gave another twirl, her earrings dangled off her ears, glinting in the light of the room. "Uhm... I guess you're right."

Our eyes t in the mirror, I imdiately looked away but she caught the movent, causing her to turn to face at once.

"Casey, what's going on?" She asked, looking at with worry etched on her face. "You don't look so good."

I wiped my damp hands on my pants as I gave her a shrug. Watching her dress up only had thinking of all the ways my life was fucked up. Falling in love with her fiancé and kissing him. I wish I never found myself in such a ss. I wish I could turn back the hand of ti and redo everything. However, the more I think about it, the more it seems impossible to do otherwise. Jace and I were love at first sight, and we've been fighting it ever since. Only that it was a battle we were losing drastically.

"I'm talking to you, Casey!" Kira cried, snapping her fingers in front of my eyes to get my attention. "Are you really spacing out on ? Co on, talk to ! What's the problem?"

I gave a weak sigh as I shifted on my seat, "it's you."

Her eyes widened as she stared at , "what the fuck did I do?"

"Well, you ntioned that Jace was cheating on you and since then you've zipped your mouth shut. Like, what the fuck?"

"Oh... that's what's getting you so sulky?" She rolled her eyes as she resud admiring herself in the mirror. She picked up a bracelet and wrapped it around her wrist. "Co on, babe."

"I've been asking, but you've been ignoring it. It seems you don't want to talk about it because you keep changing the subject. I'm your bestfriend, right? You should tell these things."

She nodded, "Okay, I'm sorry."

"Good," I shifted once more. "So, who is it?"

"I don't know yet," she said. "But I'm sure he's seeing so woman."

"Why are you so sure?"

"He's being careful, way more than usual. When a man starts being careful like that, know it's for a woman."

"How do you know this? You don't even live together. Or do you have his itinerary?"

She scoffed at that, "What? No. Just take my word for it, okay? I know he's seeing soone. I can't start going into all the gory details."

I swallowed. I could see she didn't want to divulge how exactly she found out about it, so I wasn't going to push further. I didn't want to give her any ideas about . Either way, I knew her very well, eventually I was going to find out. Still, there was one important question I had that was bugging .

"So, what are you planning to do about it?"

At that, she took a deep breath as she lowered herself onto her seat and looked away from the mirror.

"Honestly babe, I have no idea. I don't even know how to feel about all this. We don't love each other, so technically he's not cheating on . But then, he's going to be my husband. What kind of wife would willingly allow her husband to take on a side chic?"

"Side chic?" The word sounded hollow to my ears and for a second, I felt deeply insulted. I forced myself to remain silent as I looked at her.

"Of course," Kira went on. "Isn't that what she is? Anyway, the truth is, I don't know what I'd do just yet. I guess I have to think about it and decide for myself. Do I want to find out who this woman is and kill her? Or do I want to ignore it and let it happen? I just don't know yet."

"Okay..." I mumbled, nodding my head like a pendulum. My heart was beating heavily in my chest as I looked away from her, focusing instead on the rich curtains that adorned the walls of the hotel room. She had just threatened to kill . Of course, she had no idea I was the side chic she was so angry about but that didn't hide the gravity of the threat behind her words. I knew what Kira could do when she set her mind to it.

"For now," she said after a while, "I just want to focus on living my life one day at a ti. I could choose to also get a side piece like Jace, or I can choose to make sure he performs his duties as a husband. I'm just yet to decide what kind of hell we're going to live in."

"Hell?"

She shrugged, "Neither of us wants to be with the other, what do you call that kind of marriage?"

"Convenient?"

She pursed, "Well, I guess we'll see about that."

"I'm sure there will be a way we can all resolve this so that it won't ruin things for everyone."

She smiled at , "Hmmm... why does this feel like you're speaking for the side chic?"

"I'm speaking for you, Kira. I just don't want you doing sothing that may hurt everything you've worked so hard for."

"Maybe it's too late for that," she muttered as she turned back to the mirror and began to select rings she would wear alongside her engagent ring. "Jace also has a lot to lose, why isn't he being considerate? Maybe that's not my job. Maybe I should only look out for myself. Fuck Uncle Leo, fuck Jace, and fuck that side chic he's fucking!"

"They've not fucked yet." The words were out before I knew it, and I cursed myself at once. I couldn't believe I had lost myself in the heat of her words.

I watched as she slowly turned back to face , her fingers filled with all sorts of expensive rings.

"What did you just say?" She asked.

At that mont, I wished the ground would open up and swallow .
