"Don’t bother with those," Tang Ye shook his head, then pointed towards the corpse of the quartermaster and continued, "Drag him out. Delay the renovation project of the old Peace Party Building for a month. Hang this guy in the highest place let everyone know how he died, what he did."

"As for the others, make a big deal out of this and kill them all. I want to make an example out of them!"

"Yes," Hatred nodded. Ever since he joined the Peace Party, he was in charge of killing people.

After Tang Ye finished speaking, he turned around and left, while Hatred also took Bai Huipeng and a few others out with him. However, they did not head in the sa direction as Tang Ye. Before long, a large number of soldiers were mobilized within the Central United District. One by one, small and large managers of the Peace Party were tightly bound and dragged out amidst shouts. All the soldiers remaining in the United District followed these Peace Party leaders under escort into the district’s busiest area.

As a high-ranking official announced the treacherous acts committed by these twenty-so Peace Party managers, heads fell to the ground amidst soldiers’ chants and the curious gazes of the residents. Blood quietly flowed on the streets that had been trodden by countless feet.

anwhile, Tang Ye had already arrived at the newly constructed Peace Party Building. He casually walked through the main entrance and imdiately sought out the communications officer in charge of connecting with the Jiu Ge Battlefield.

"What’s the situation now?"

"Oh Marshal, you’re here. Everything is fairly normal at the mont, except that so communication points have not been heard from in a long ti. The rest are still communicating normally."

"What about Tang Fu?"

"Umm... The Deputy Party Chief is also in a normal state, but there have been soldiers dying mysteriously these past few days."

"Give the casualty statistics."

"Alright."

Tang Ye took the chart that the communications officer handed him and scrutinized it. In the past six months, nearly eighty thousand soldiers had been deployed from the Central United District, and by now, the number of soldiers who had died in action was approaching ten thousand, not to ntion the even larger number of wounded. But in a post-apocalyptic world, the wounded could largely be disregarded. Most of the deployed soldiers were of the new human species. For them, healing from injuries was a matter of a week at most unless the wounds were exceptionally severe.

Tang Ye’s face was expressionless. To him, the more than nine thousand deaths had beco just a number. Even behind the cold statistics were vibrant lives, but he had beco indifferent. What were once grave matters in his heart had, with the passage of ti and his growth, beco routine.

Terrifying events that once felt like the sky was falling had, with ti and his own growth, seed like very ordinary incidents. With increased exposure, naturally, he had grown numb.

Moreover, these were things he could not prevent. The end of the world was not a society where if you respected soone, they would respect you back. Everyone needed to survive, even if their own survival ant many others had to die, even if his burgeoning power required the sacrifice of lives. But so what?

It was inevitable. It was only before the Apocalypse that those in power wove falsehoods of a beautiful world to let people imagine it so. The darkness wasn’t gone; it was just blocked out by so respected individuals, albeit not non-existent.

"That will do, keep an eye out, I’m going up."

"Alright, Marshal."

Tang Ye did not say anything more. Amidst the communications officer’s smile, he turned and walked towards the elevator. Reaching it, he pressed the button, and the numbers on the display began to change. It was at this mont he suddenly felt as if soone was watching him from behind. He frequently had this sensation; after all, he was the Marshal of the Central United District, the highest-ranking person within, and so it was not strange to draw curious glances. Even though he knew this, for so reason, the gaze upon him felt unsettling.

This made Tang Ye feel very strange, until finally, he could not resist turning around to look in the direction from which he felt the stare.

As he did so, the sensation of being watched vanished quickly from his perception, and his gaze turned towards the back, but there was only the main entrance of the Peace Party Building, with two soldiers inside and two outside on guard duty. Perhaps because they saw Tang Ye there, the four soldiers stood especially straight, their expressions particularly stern. From ti to ti, staff mbers wearing white shirts would walk by, respectfully greeting Tang Ye to get themselves noticed by him.

Tang Ye rely nodded in response, his face lacking emotions.

From his perspective, since he entered, only those four soldiers had stood in their original positions. The gaze that had just been upon him could only belong to one of them.

Yet, their faces showed nothing unusual. Tang Ye squinted his eyes and quickly dismissed the incident from his mind.

Ding~

The elevator chid, its doors opened, and Tang Ye walked in. His resting quarters in the newly constructed Peace Party Building were on the top floor, which featured a moderately sized rooftop garden with a pleasant environnt, so he had chosen to place his quarters there.

As the elevator doors closed, Tang Ye felt the upward thrust, and everything seed to return to normal.

What he did not see, as he entered the elevator and could no longer observe the first floor after it began its ascent, was one of the soldiers at the door looking back at the elevator, his eyes revealing a sapphire blue completely different from those of the people of the Chinese Continent.

But this color was fleeting, quickly returning to a clear, deep black.

"Old White, cover for . I need to use the restroom," said the soldier suddenly to the taller guard across from him. The other nodded and agreed readily, "Sure, go ahead, just be quick."

"Okay." With his comrade’s permission, the soldier imdiately set off, not hesitating as he made a beeline for the restroom, apparently in a real hurry.

The tall soldier watched him go, looking around briefly, and after a mont, he too felt a swelling sensation in his bladder.

Maybe he should go to the restroom too.

Thinking this to himself, he decided to wait for the other guard to return, then tell him he needed a bathroom break. But the wait turned out to be almost maddeningly long; the other seed to have vanished without a trace, not returning for quite so ti.
