In the square, their direct sergeants talked about trivial matters, as the soldiers had grown accustod to it since this was the routine they went through every ti they were on duty, unable to be avoided, followed by the sergeant’s command, "Dismissed!"
They thought the day would end just like that, as boring as the repetitive life before the Apocalypse, working in the factory day after day. But today was destined to be eventful. Before the sergeant could utter those two words, a sudden loud bang erupted. On the distant streets, a burst of flas soared into the dim haze of the night, so dazzlingly bright.
"Quick, quick, quick! Soone’s trying to leave the United District with a flying vehicle. Stop it!"
At the sa ti, a squad of soldiers ca running, equipped with Victor exo-suits, and the conspicuous red line on their all-around combat helts indicated that these soldiers had seniority much greater than ours. But it’s more accurate to say that their loyalty to the Peace Party ran deeper than their tenure!
In the hearts of us and our peers, they had another nickna — Hybrid Deer-Dog!
Hearing the commanding soldiers’ words, our sergeants’ communicators also went off simultaneously. He didn’t issue orders directly to the troops in front of him; instead, he simply waved his hand, the intended ssage clear. He was signaling them to provide support!
The sergeant quickly picked up the communicator, spoke rapidly, and hung up after a mont. anwhile, the soldiers had already geared up again, grabbing their weapons and rushing towards the source of the explosion!
"Move it, bring down that aircraft!"
"Yes, sir!"
"Should we inform General Shang or the deputy head of the council? Tell them there’s a suspicion that remnants of the Old rcenary Guild are executing an escape plan."
Since the establishnt of the new rcenary guild by the Peace Party with a hundred percent capital control, most of the high-ranking mbers of the previous guild had been killed or captured. General Shang had shown no rcy, not giving those people any chance to explain. But the guild master and the two deacons of the rcenary guild had vanished without a trace, as if they had disappeared into thin air within the United District.
As long as the supre leaders of the rcenary guild remained uncaught, the Peace Party would naturally not stop their relentless pursuit of the remnants of the Old rcenary Guild, hence issuing a no-fly order was ant to trap the guild master in the United District until they could stand it no longer and ca out.
Following the instructions of various sergeants, a large number of soldiers mobilized, rapidly heading towards the location of the explosion. The fire from the guns and the booming of artillery grew louder, and the electromagnetic railguns, death rays, and large-caliber particle beam weapons in the Peace Party kept raining down on a building.
It was a mid-sized building that looked to be fifteen stories tall. Despite the building’s concrete and stone being blasted away by the barrage of destructive weaponry, it showed no signs of collapse.
As chunks of cent and solidified stone fell to the ground, revealing the steel structure inside that was effortlessly torn apart, blasts opened up on the rooftop. The intense flas were visible to the soldiers flying the Ghost Claw fighters above; they could see people on the rooftop running for cover, their screams unceasing.
The explosion ignited anything flammable on the rooftop, as flas rose one after another. Those on the rooftop, after a brief resistance, were completely suppressed by the enemy’s firepower and tossed aside their weapons, fleeing towards the safety of the stairwell entrance.
However, the rooftop had beco a sea of fire. In face of the vast difference in their equipnt, they couldn’t afford to care about that. Even though the path before them was engulfed by fire, in front of the Peace Party’s weapons—utterly devoid of humanity—any slight touch would turn them into mush.
So, they mustered their courage and resolutely entered the inferno, clinging to the faint hope of making it through. But reality is not a movie. As those resisting on the rooftop entered the fire one by one, thick black smoke billowed out.
The mont they stepped into the flas, the intense heat of seven to eight hundred degrees instantly charred their flesh, while the sll of burning flesh and fat wafted through the air. So of it was pressed downward by the powerful updraft caused by Ghost Claw, and the soldiers preparing to breach the building’s blockade suddenly slled the scent of seared flesh and blood.
But their attack didn’t stop there. Death ray weapons fired corrosive beams that riddled the building with holes. After huge chunks of concrete fell away, the structure still stood tall, seemingly unshakable. But through the holes left by the fallen concrete and rebar, one could clearly see the building’s internal chanical walls, which gave off an impression of extre toughness at a glance.
"Hit that spot for !"
A non-commissioned officer spotted the chanical walls inside the building and bellowed an order. The surrounding heavy weapons intensified their fire, pounding the chanical walls relentlessly.
Under the continuous bombardnt, the building was like a peeled hard-boiled egg, its mysterious veil lifted. As large areas of concrete fell away, the building, which had seed utterly nondescript, transford into a structure brimming with science fiction elents.
Soone imdiately realized what the chanical building was used for and shouted, "There’s a high-power flyer inside, breach the outer defense wall quickly, and destroy the flyer within!"
The chanical walls, under the onslaught of nurous powerful weapons, quickly twisted and deford, then lted from the extre heat, forcibly creating a breach. But before the Peace Party soldiers could act, a Level 5 New Human erged from within, wearing a Hunter Battle Suit, his arms covered in armor, inlaid with two hundred razor-thin, orange-red arm blades.
Ignoring the searing heat around the breach, this powerhouse charged at the soldiers without saying a word. But the opposition was quick to react.
"Hmph, alone and you think you can show off? Blast the newcor to bits!"
The Peace Party soldiers quickly aid their weapons at the Level 5 New Human, whose presence emanated a killing intent, and a blanket of lasers filled the space between them.
That Level 5 New Human, who had just erged from the chanical building, was still five or six ters from the soldiers’ defense line when he was riddled with holes by the intense barrage of beams, like a hornet’s nest. Everything happened so swiftly, within re seconds. The once formidable Level 5 New Human was now lifeless, with only his reflexes causing him to take a few unconscious steps forward before collapsing to the ground with a "thud," motionless.
As more and more holes appeared in the chanical building due to the attacks from the Peace Party’s weapons, the soldiers quickly ceased their assault and surrounded the building.
