"What’s got you so worked up? Why don’t you tell what happened?"

On hearing the Dormitory Leader’s voice, Zhang Lei glanced at him, a complex expression flicking across his face. Although the leader was no New Human, he was every bit as capable as Zhang Lei himself. It was evident that the man was a seasoned veteran, else he wouldn’t have been in charge of this dormitory.

The leader’s skills couldn’t have been honed by soldiers rely ssing about in training - they were the product of real combat. Like Zhang Lei, who was a soldier before the Apocalypse, he was a Drug Enforcent Officer, and so his skills were naturally refined.

After sizing the Dormitory Leader up, Zhang Lei remained silent for a while before finally speaking, but he didn’t answer the leader’s question directly.

"You are...?"

"What are you trying to say?" the Dormitory Leader frowned, looking sowhat puzzled.

Zhang Lei shook his head, apparently abandoning his intention to inquire about the leader’s identity. He cut to the chase: "You know about the zombie gathering in Hua City, right?"

At his words, the soldiers on the opposite side exchanged glances, showing apparent confusion. They were aware of the fact that Hua City was swarming with millions of zombies, but ard with their laser weapons and various other destructive gears, they didn’t consider the zombie flood a big deal. They figured they would simply repel the invasion with what they had.

Seeing their reaction, Zhang Lei couldn’t help but shake his head: "I’m not like you. I’m one of the survivors from the Kunxuan Base two years ago. I participated in the battle against the zombie invasion then. The zombie forces that attacked us numbered only around a hundred thousand, but we got defeated nonetheless."

"Indeed, our weapons are formidable. However, even just a few Level 3 zombies could throw us into complete disarray at the ti. Just like you now, we too were confident that we could win, that we could hold the gates against the zombie invasion."

"Haven’t you heard the old saying? Once a crowd exceeds ten thousand, it becos boundless. At the ti, we didn’t fully comprehend the gravity of the number two hundred thousand would bring. But when you stare at the endless tide of darkness that was the zombie flood, you will know the true aning of terror."

"We’re not dealing with brain-dead ordinary zombies. The zombie horde contains countless evolved ones! Even if New Humans are formidable, what can you do when a zombie pile becos like a small hill pressing on your body?"

"That’s how we lost the Kunxuan Base back then. Moreover, there are now millions of zombies in this horde! Sure, our current gear could fend them off, but only for a while. Dealing with Level 4 and Level 5 zombies will make us bleed for it. I’m not like you guys, I’ve seen the horrors of zombies and so I want to run away..."

Zhang Lei seed to have more to say but stopped abruptly. The Dormitory Leader frowned and then said: "That’s not it, right? I’m like you, I also survived from the Kunxuan Base I understand the situation you’re describing, but... you’re fooling . Level 5 zombies aren’t invincible, there must be more to why you’re running away."

Zhang Lei was taken aback, his eyes wide in surprise: "What? You’re also from Kunxuan Base?"

"Yep, I was with the Fourth Battalion then, perford light signals at the South Wall."

"Light signals at South Wall... the South Wall was the first to be breached by zombies. Weren’t all soldiers on the Wall killed? How did you..." Before Zhang Lei could finish, he saw a flicker of reminiscence, followed by pain in the Dormitory Leader’s eyes, indicating that it must’ve been a terrible mory.

"I didn’t die. I was the only one who... survived. After the South Wall was breached, Old Wan led people to escape. Actually, we were nothing more than cannon fodder. By the ti we were fighting, the designated soldiers had already left. I hid in a pile of corpses and managed to escape, but let’s put an end to this topic. Seeing as we both hail from the sa place, we can be considered old friends. So, tell what’s going on. You seem to be experienced. A zombie horde of millions wouldn’t rattle you this much."

Zhang Lei lit a cigarette, his eyes looked a bit hesitant. But seeing how the soldiers in the dormitory were all staring at him with a fixed gaze, he knew that if he didn’t talk, he wouldn’t be able to get out of here. Once they reported to the dorm manager, he would be done for.

All those who had survived in the post-apocalyptic world to this point were not fools. Given the Dormitory Leader’s reaction, the others probably had also sensed that sothing was amiss.

"And the fact that you could be scared to the point of losing your senses by a horde of millions of zombies? If you were going to run, you would have done it a long ti ago!"

Zhang Lei glanced at him, nodded slowly, then said quietly: "Indeed, a horde of millions of zombies would not scare this much. What if I told you that there was a Level 6 zombie in that horde? Would you still be so composed?"

The mont his words fell, the air in the room turned still. The others in the dormitory seed to have misheard, watching him in a daze.

"Isn’t... isn’t there already two Level 6 New Humans? What’s there to be afraid of?" one of the soldiers muttered.

"Yes, Qinshan Base does have two Level 6 New Humans, but our mission this ti is to attack the Level 6 New Humans of the Peace Party. If we’re lucky, we’ll be dealing with one. If we’re unlucky, either one of our two Level 6 New Humans could crush us any ti! Do you have any idea how terrifying the Level 6 zombie outside is?"

"Those two Level 6 New Humans are also our enemies. Besides, in those days, Kunxuan Base could not withstand the onslaught of over two hundred thousand zombies, let alone now? Although our technology has developed and is more powerful than before, the overall strength of the zombie horde has also increased, reaching millions in number!"

No one said a word in the room. Most soldiers serving in the United District understood the horror of a Level 5 zombie, who were basically superhumans depicted in pre-apocalypse movies. Although they were not quite at that level, they could certainly be considered minor superhumans.

What could be worse than a Level 6 zombie?

"But didn’t a Level 6 zombie just appear at Qinshan Base a few days ago? Li Songhua managed to kill it three tis. If not for its peculiar ability, it would have been done for by now."

"You’re being naive. In the end, was that Level 6 zombie killed? You must know, that Level 6 corpse was over thirty ters tall and bulky in size. It was a huge target, like a walking dart board!"

"Speaking of which, that was the first Level 6 zombie we’ve encountered in the closest proximity. We couldn’t kill it even after striking it down three tis. Have you ever pondered that Level 6 zombies are on an entirely different level from Level 5 zombies? Do any of you understand how terrifying they are?"

"That Level 6 zombie might have been killed three tis, but what if that’s what makes it so hard to handle?"

Zhang Lei exhaled a puff of white smoke, set his gaze on the Dormitory Leader, and asked: "By the way, what’s your na?"
