"What’s got you so worked up? Why don’t you tell what happened?"
On hearing the Dormitory Leader’s voice, Zhang Lei glanced at him, a complex expression flicking across his face. Although the leader was no New Human, he was every bit as capable as Zhang Lei himself. It was evident that the man was a seasoned veteran, else he wouldn’t have been in charge of this dormitory.
The leader’s skills couldn’t have been honed by soldiers rely ssing about in training - they were the product of real combat. Like Zhang Lei, who was a soldier before the Apocalypse, he was a Drug Enforcent Officer, and so his skills were naturally refined.
After sizing the Dormitory Leader up, Zhang Lei remained silent for a while before finally speaking, but he didn’t answer the leader’s question directly.
"You are...?"
"What are you trying to say?" the Dormitory Leader frowned, looking sowhat puzzled.
Zhang Lei shook his head, apparently abandoning his intention to inquire about the leader’s identity. He cut to the chase: "You know about the zombie gathering in Hua City, right?"
At his words, the soldiers on the opposite side exchanged glances, showing apparent confusion. They were aware of the fact that Hua City was swarming with millions of zombies, but ard with their laser weapons and various other destructive gears, they didn’t consider the zombie flood a big deal. They figured they would simply repel the invasion with what they had.
Seeing their reaction, Zhang Lei couldn’t help but shake his head: "I’m not like you. I’m one of the survivors from the Kunxuan Base two years ago. I participated in the battle against the zombie invasion then. The zombie forces that attacked us numbered only around a hundred thousand, but we got defeated nonetheless."
"Indeed, our weapons are formidable. However, even just a few Level 3 zombies could throw us into complete disarray at the ti. Just like you now, we too were confident that we could win, that we could hold the gates against the zombie invasion."

Zhang Lei seed to have more to say but stopped abruptly. The Dormitory Leader frowned and then said: "That’s not it, right? I’m like you, I also survived from the Kunxuan Base I understand the situation you’re describing, but... you’re fooling . Level 5 zombies aren’t invincible, there must be more to why you’re running away."
Zhang Lei was taken aback, his eyes wide in surprise: "What? You’re also from Kunxuan Base?"
"Yep, I was with the Fourth Battalion then, perford light signals at the South Wall."
"Light signals at South Wall... the South Wall was the first to be breached by zombies. Weren’t all soldiers on the Wall killed? How did you..." Before Zhang Lei could finish, he saw a flicker of reminiscence, followed by pain in the Dormitory Leader’s eyes, indicating that it must’ve been a terrible mory.
"I didn’t die. I was the only one who... survived. After the South Wall was breached, Old Wan led people to escape. Actually, we were nothing more than cannon fodder. Zhang Lei lit a cigarette, his eyes looked a bit hesitant. But seeing how the soldiers in the dormitory were all staring at him with a fixed gaze, he knew that if he didn’t talk, he wouldn’t be able to get out of here. Once they reported to the dorm manager, he would be done for.
All those who had survived in the post-apocalyptic world to this point were not fools. Given the Dormitory Leader’s reaction, the others probably had also sensed that sothing was amiss.

No one said a word in the room. Most soldiers serving in the United District understood the horror of a Level 5 zombie, who were basically superhumans depicted in pre-apocalypse movies. Although they were not quite at that level, they could certainly be considered minor superhumans.
What could be worse than a Level 6 zombie?
