"It’s bad news; the zombie horde broke in!"
In Gaozheng Survivors Base of Fengming City, nurous survivors watched as a mass of zombies piled up into a wall of corpses, surging like a rock-climbing tide up the 22-ter tall zombie defensive wall. Soldiers on the top gritted their teeth, continuously firing bullets from their guns, even as the gun barrels heated to a glowing red.
The people in the base began to flee, and violent cris also made their debut as soon as the first zombie climbed the anti-zombie wall. Driven by despair, people indulged in this final act of passion.
No one, aside from the soldiers, took up arms to fight against the zombies. Everyone knew in their hearts that this day would eventually co and it had arrived today!
The daily news of survivor bases falling in the Beichuan Central District had already warned them that Gaozheng Base might also be next. Perhaps it was due to their ntal preparation that people were not afraid, they only desired to seize the last monts and thoroughly indulge themselves!
Zombies were surrounding the towering anti-zombie wall from all directions. Soldiers on the wall were screaming to bolster their spirits, but cold sweat instantly broke out on their foreheads each ti they saw the endless sea of tightly packed zombies in the distance.
Most of the non-commissioned officers had grim looks on their faces as if they were hiding sothing. The orders they gave seed to be dispirited.
These lower-ranking officers had all been hiding a fact from their soldiers and the survivors below; the zombie horde attacking was not just made of two hundred thousand, but 1.2 million zombies!
How large is that number? According to central statistics from Jiang Cong, there were as many as seven or eight Level 5 Zombies among them!
To not affect morale, they had kept this information hidden. It was either to take a gamble or to... buy ti for the higher-ups, allowing them to escape.
The non-commissioned officers left behind knew that they were sacrificial pawns in this battle along with their lower-ranked soldiers, while the fall of Gaozheng Base in the western city of Fengming already said everything.
As zombies appeared on the anti-zombie walls of both the south and east, a wave of zombies surged, the news of the fall of the two walls ca. When Commander Zhao Yi, who was at the western wall, got wind of this, he imdiately ordered his soldiers to cease their attack.
"All retreat!"
A sense of urgency painted Zhao Yi’s face as if he was tense about sothing. The soldiers who had been desperately trying to keep the zombies at bay looked at each other, puzzled by their commander’s orders. However, no one wanted to die in the jaws of a zombie, and they gathered at his command and rushed down the anti-zombie wall.
Zhao Yi dropped his military cap to the ground, his face somber, watching as more zombies continued to crawl out of the eastern zombie wall. They got up after falling on the ground and rushed towards the survivors in the base.
Screams arose from the crowd. One of the newcors was a Level 5 Speed Type Zombie that broke through the eastern zombie wall right at the scene. Looking like an average human, it had layers of lustrous, purple scales growing from its shoulders, intricately overlapping like a coat made of scales.
This zombie was extrely fast, so fast that the human eye couldn’t keep up! No one knows how it crashed through the anti-zombie wall, the soldiers on the anti-zombie wall only spotted a Level 5 indicator on the Antilife Detector and then there was nothing else.
Its movent was so fast that it seed to be teleporting. Its long, hawk-like claws were mutilating the scrambling survivors like a tiger among the sheep.
No one could escape its onslaught, its thods were ruthless, leaving behind a sea of bodies everywhere it went!
Hiss!
It opened its mouth that could stretch wide enough to fit an entire human head. Inside, it had a dense growth of sharp teeth, stained with strands of fresh at, it would be more accurate to say its mouth was filled with teeth, each as long as a human finger!
Zhao Yi took a glance at it, then at the Anti-Life Detector. The level displayed on the detector was a clear Level 5!
For any Bounty Hunter, whether it was a power type zombie, ntal control zombie, or any other special evolutions of the zombies, none would be as troubleso as a speed type zombie.
This showed just how much of a thorny issue Speed Type Zombies were to deal with?
Zhao Yi quickly surveyed the distance the horde of zombies had covered and couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious. What bothered him more was the feeling that sothing was being held back. Wasn’t the advances force supposed to be just two hundred thousand zombies? Why couldn’t he see any signs of their decreasing numbers?
An idea dawned on him, but right now, he had an extrely important task to do and he didn’t have any ti to dwell on it. As his soldiers gradually ran down the anti-zombie wall, he glanced back at his comrades still fighting on the southern side, murmured an "I’m sorry" to himself, and jumped down.
The 20-ter drop was nothing much for him as a Level 4 New Human. His lower-ranking soldiers had already gathered, waiting for their commander to give the orders.
"Don’t just stand there, follow !"
Zhao Yi yelled urgently. He was planning to board a vehicle at first, but then he realized he himself could run faster than any vehicle!
After saying this, he broke into a swift run. If he didn’t act now, he was going to regret it for the rest of his life!
Just as he didn’t get very far, the commander at the northern wall saw him and was instantly furious, shouting at him.
"Zhao Yi, dare you flee the battle?"
Zhao Yi heard his voice. His face was bitter, although there was the deafening gunfire and the clamor of the battlefield, he could clearly hear his comrade of the sa rank.
He turned back to look at his old friend and said coldly, "Can’t you see? The Gaozheng Base can’t be held any longer. If this continues, we’ll all die!"

The re ntion of the word soldier caused Zhao Yi to scream with shattered pride. He would never forget the oath he had sworn when he enlisted. He had believed that he would continue to uphold his ideals but all of that was cruelly destroyed by the rain of the apocalypse.
He pointed at his soldiers and yelled. His face flushed, veins bulged on his forehead and the soldiers he pointed at bent their heads in sha.
Before the apocalypse, they were sacred to the people. After the apocalypse, everything changed, the real soldiers holding onto their faith had died long ago, and the current soldiers, as Zhao Yi said, were nothing more than soone else’s knife!
