They didn’t know how long they had been walking, but this group of survivors had always suspected that Ruan Chao’en, the Level 3 New Human, would rcifully lead them to a hearty al first. However, they didn’t expect that he would actually bring them to the center of a large square, showing no sign of intending to have a al!
Everyone was dumbfounded, thinking Ruan Chao’en might have forgotten sothing. They wanted to speak up, but they didn’t know what to say.
"Alright, we’re here. Welco, everyone. Allow to introduce myself. I’m Ruan Chao’en, um, cough cough...a current Level 3 New Human and the commander of team one. Every newcor to Shiwuguan Base has to go through first."
"I won’t beat around the bush...sigh...you guys over there, bring that stuff."
Ruan Chao’en said seriously. anwhile, his subordinates went into a large tent and soon pushed out sothing covered with a grey cloth.
Everyone was curious, but when the soldiers of Shiwuguan Base uncovered the grey cloth, everyone’s face turned pale!
"Hehe... you know what this thing is, right? Anyway, you all know, and it’s sothing that could cost you your life!"
"You’ve all seen how wonderful this place is. But to access these benefits, you need to pay a certain price. And mind you, that price isn’t sothing tangible, but sothing you have to experience! You all must get through to enjoy the other aspects of life here! In the process, you might have to pay for it with your life!"
"What!"
"Why!"
Upon hearing about the new condition, the survivors imdiately exploded with anger, staring furiously at Ruan Chao’en.
Seeing their reaction, Ruan Chao’en’s initially smiling face turned ice cold.
At this point, Xu Changchi took out a gun and fired a shot into the sky.
Unlike Ruan Chao’en, Xu Changchi was naturally fierce and ruthless, a desperado. He had nothing but disdain for these fearful survivors.
"The first rule of Shiwuguan Base is obedience! If you don’t obey the rules, say goodbye to your life! Step into the cage."
Xu Changchi pointed to the thing that had just been wheeled out. It was a large cage containing dozens of bloodthirsty zombies, including even a Level 2 Zombie!
"Obeying the rules is the most important principle of Shiwuguan Base. From now on, anyone who disobeys, regardless of whether they are New Humans or not, will join the zombies in the cage!"
No one among the survivors said anything. Although they were unwilling, they realized that what Xu Changchi said wasn’t entirely unreasonable. It was all about following the rules, a concept that seed less daunting compared to the past. On the other hand, having rules ant having order, and order ant a certain guarantee of personal safety.
But it was Xu Changchi’s words that were particularly harsh; he kept ntioning death. In the post-apocalyptic world, ’death’ was taboo. Every survivor up to this point was experienced and treasured their life. To them, as long as they were alive, there was hope.
It was this hope that they were clinging on to!
In the apocalypse, the longer you live, the more you cherish life. It is only after surviving several near-death encounters that one learns the preciousness of life.
Therefore, rely following rules is sothing everyone can accomplish, it all depends on the attitude.
But is it really that simple?
"Alright, now, all the won and the n who are small in stature or lack combat abilities co forward. Of course, if anyone dares to sham, don’t bla the gun in my hand!" Xu Changchi said.
The crowd segregated into two parts – one group comprised only n and the other only won. There were quite a few n in the crowd who fit Xu Changchi’s definition of small in stature or lacking combat abilities. The smart ones knew that being in the female group might provide so benefits. But due to Xu Changchi’s harsh words, even if they fit the criteria, they dared not step forward.
The first reason was the denial of their own weakness and the second was the fear of upsetting the Level 3 New Human, which could cost them their life. When it ca to life and death, no one dared to be careless.
Ever since Tang Ye had dispersed all the zombies, the Shiwuguan Base was no longer threatened by zombies, leading to so changes in its managent.
Tang Ye’s future tasks were very unique, focusing on humans rather than zombies. It could be said that under Tang Ye’s subtle influence, the whole Shiwuguan Base had turned into a force against other human communities!
Whenever new survivors joined the Shiwuguan Base, the won and n without combat abilities were assigned jobs that required ticulousness, of course, excluding the won with exceptional combat abilities.
Tang Ye’s policy had always been not to harbor freeloaders. All the won in the base, unless they had soone to provide for them, needed to work to earn their food, regardless of their looks. This applied even to the elderly who managed to survive by sheer luck. If there were seniors and people with disabilities who were incapable of working or fighting, Tang Ye had no choice but to ignore them and leave them to fend for themselves. Fortunately...
Human nature wasn’t just about the bad side; the good side was equally praiseworthy.
Upon the restoration of so aspects of pre-apocalyptic life in Shiwuguan Base, many people no longer had to worry about food and clothing. When their lives were decent enough, they would help those who couldn’t survive on their own. Thus, most of the elderly and disabled survivors who had been injured were now taken care of by kind-hearted people.
For these good Samaritans, Tang Ye substantially eased the policy. The food received in reward for labor was increased by thirty percent!
This motivated more people to be charitable.
Now, with the exception of the supporting staff, everyone at Shiwuguan Base was a fighter, capable of turning into soldiers at any given mont!
That’s how it was in the apocalypse. In the face of zombies, unless one was a New Human, everyone else was timid. However, when it ca to facing their own kind, it was a different story. Ordinary people, even when injured, still had the chance to turn the tables in a fight against their own kind. But in front of a zombie, once an ordinary person was injured, it was ga over!
Once the thousand survivors in the square were divided into two groups, the won were assigned humane jobs by Xu Changchi. As the incredulous won and the n, who were now showing signs of hysteria, watched, he walked away...
The remaining n were subjected to a series of grueling training regis by Xu Changchi and Ruan Chao’en!
Amidst cries of agony, life in the Shiwuguan Base returned to normal.
When the sun began to lean towards the west, Tang Ye, accompanied by Ah Fu and Xu Haishui, left the Shiwuguan Base and headed towards the City Center.
PS:
Soone in our group has guessed the entire plot ahead, so it’s kind of taking the thrill out of writing it...
Of course, don’t randomly guess things like, because of Ning Yu’er, the protagonist will destroy the entire base, or other plot guesses. None of these guesses are correct!
If you really want to guess the plot, go back to the thirty-fifth and hundred and ninetieth Chapters. There’s a hidden easter egg there. If you try to guess along the plotlines, as the author, I guarantee you’ll never guess it correctly.
The upcoming plot twists are quite exciting and convoluted. I must say, that guesser is truly aweso. Having been an avid reader for twelve years, the guesser is even making , the author, contemplate kicking them out of the group – what a big nuisance...
