This world is abundant with people, and a fair share of devils and monsters too. Izaki Naruhiko thought this to himself with a chuckle.

Zuo Yushan’s successful deanor and smug face raised his hackles, but he kept his fury contained, concealing it beneath a cold huff before forcefully pushing the door to Ning Tianlang’s office open with a ’clack’.

As the two n entered, Izaki Naruhiko said the smirking Ning Tianlang, and promptly checked himself.

This guy was no pushover. Ning Tianlang, single-handedly massacred over a hundred people from New Xiangcheng and wiped out the entire Guo family! All mbers of the Guo family, regardless of sex, age or new-born infants, were hacked in half by him. He was a demon!

A living, breathing demon!

Ning Tianlang was infamous in Huachen Jiangtian, forcing many insignificant beings to recognize they were in the presence of ruthless man.

His actions were undeniably deplorable, but what of it? Ning Tianlang had slaughtered a bunch of good-for-nothings, and here he is now, leisurely reading the paper.

"The two of you?"

Ning Tianlang looked up at them skeptically.

"Oh ha ha ha, Tianlang, we’re here to ask you to take us to No.3 Experintal Factory. As you know, we can’t reach there by ourselves. We need your help."

"I see..."

Shutting the folder in his hand, Ning Tianlang stubbed out his nearly exhausted cigarette in the ashtray on his table. Without further ado, he stood up to leave the room at the sound of the file closing.

"Let’s get going."

Ning Tianlang walked as far as the door before turning to gesture at the duo to follow quickly, with no intention of inviting them to stay for tea.

Zuo Yushan produced a sheepish smile. He felt a twinge of resentnt towards Ning Tianlang, as he, a high-ranking official in Huachen Jiangtian, expected a asure of deference from Ning Tianlang. However, to his disappointnt, Ning Tianlang did not regard him with notice.

He was unable to do anything about it. He could no longer use his pre-apocalypse status to dictate Ning Tianlang’s actions. In this post-apocalyptic world, power dictates all aspects of life.

Moreover, Ning Tianlang wasn’t just an honorary Major General, but was also one of the masterminds at Chenhua Technology. The resources at his disposal far exceeded what a regular high-ranking official could muster.

Furthermore, Ning Tianlang was a Level 3 New Human!

(Don’t mistake his rapid evolution for the butterfly effect. An explanation will follow in later Chapters.)

If he wanted to kill Zuo Yushan, he could do so right now and escape without a scratch!

Upon seeing Zuo Yushan’s expression, Izaki Naruhiko felt the urge to burst out laughing, but he held it back. After all, there was a dangerous demon present.

Zuo Yushan ignored him and walked out first, clenching his fist tightly!

His rise to a high-ranking position is an indication of his astuteness. But conditions had now changed. Authority mattered less in the grand sche of things than power. As a regular human, he strived to preserve his status and naturally needed to evolve into a New Human!

At the mont, New Humans were appearing everywhere like bamboo shoots after a spring rain, shooting up steadily and relentlessly. The pressure this put on him was unimaginable.

The world had changed drastically. He envisaged a future where power status was everything. As an ordinary person who used to live an upper-class existence and command people’s respect before the apocalypse, he would beco akin to a slave in the future. He was not prepared to accept that fate!

Once he beca a New Human, considering the resources at his disposal, he believed he could elevate himself quickly to a Level 2 New Human!

Just thinking about it excited him. However, as the saying goes, the first step is always the hardest. Zuo Yushan found himself stuck at this point.

It was fucking hard to evolve into a New Human! It seed that only those favored by fate could beco New Humans. However, there was another way: murder. Killing a New Human and swallowing their Evolution Crystal Core could turn one into a New Human.

But this carried a risk—he could potentially die from the pain of the evolution process!

He had seen many people attempt to kill New Humans so as to beco one themselves, regardless of the risks. He had personally witnessed soone dying after consuming the Core.

He didn’t dare to give it a try. At least for now, he sought to avoid trying such inhumane thods, and instead trusted in destiny.

If all else fails, he was prepared to go down this route.

Under Ning Tianlang’s guidance, he and Izaki Naruhiko soon arrived at a temporary experintal building.

"Who goes there?..."

The soldier at the door stood ramrod straight and alerted by their presence. But the mont he saw Ning Tianlang, he instinctively recoiled.

"Open the door. I’m going in."

"Yes, sir!"

The soldier replied loudly, disregarding his previous blunder. Any other man would have reacted in the sa way, given Ning Tianlang’s ruthless reputation.

The soldier was very fast and skilled. He sheathed his held machine gun, and with a rhythmic stride, entered the hall to inform the others.

However, as soon as he entered, a slender silhouette erged from the inside. She wore a cute ponytail. Ning Tianlang looked surprised to see the woman and lowered his gaze bashfully.

It was his daughter, a girl of heartening kindness. Even though his fatherly love for her was intense, she still held a grudge against him for all the murders he had committed. He had only been forced into violence because a mber of New Xiangcheng had harassed his daughter.

The relationship between him and his daughter was strained, but he was helpless about it. Ning Tianlang scratched his head awkwardly, looking perplexed. Nonetheless, he greeted Ning Yu’er tenderly, "Yu’er, you’re out early today. Is there... is there anything wrong?"

Ning Tianlang looked at Ning Yu’er hopefully, but she pouted and shot him a resentful look. After that, she walked briskly away, clearly annoyed with her father.

Ning Tianlang watched his daughter leave anxiously, but he didn’t chase after her.

He longed for Ning Yu’er’s forgiveness. However, considering the nurous lives he’d taken, asking for her forgiveness would likely be a long process. It wasn’t sothing he could obtain in an instant.

Sowhere in his mind, he regretted raising his daughter to be so kind-hearted. Her benevolence had often stopped him from being as relentless as he wanted to be. But maybe that wasn’t a bad thing after all.

The post-apocalyptic era had made him ambitious. The once reserved man was now erratic and moody. He had been keeping his daughter in the dark about many things. Behind the scenes, he was creating a bloody ss, littered with countless bodies!

He considered himself a powerful individual, and the path to power was often paved with countless corpses!

Perhaps one day he would completely lose himself, transforming into a true, cold-blooded demon, but he would also have an incredibly kind-hearted daughter to bring so semblance of innocence into the world.

To spread love and compassion among fellow beings...
