At this mont, the group reached a silent consensus. The horde of zombies beneath the overpass was at least 200,000 strong, and who knew how many high-level zombies were lurking beyond!
They turned cautiously, stepping slowly toward where the big-wheeled truck was parked. Compared to before, they didn’t dare make even the slightest sound. Each step was taken with utmost care. Yet Yong didn’t move. His gaze was fixed straight ahead, but there was nothing in that direction—just like before.
"Yong... We’re leaving. Hurry and follow!"
Brother Shi called out to Yong in a low voice to remind him, but Yong didn’t react. When Brother Shi turned to look in the direction of Yong’s gaze, his pupils suddenly contracted!
Far off, atop a tall building, there seed to be sothing... watching them.
He strained his eyes to get a better look. Yes, there was definitely sothing there. And it was definitely watching them! Yong had locked eyes with that thing, as if the two were locked in so kind of invisible battle of wills.
Though its precise features weren’t clear, the twisted shape of its form left Brother Shi certain of one thing—it wasn’t human!
And for it to notice them from such a great distance... judging from Yong’s reaction, it had likely noticed them long before they had even spotted the zombie horde. Just from this visual acuity alone, its strength was likely at or above the Level 5 stage—maybe even higher. And given that they were in Wangxing City, a place teeming with zombies and ho to several Level 8 zombies, this thing could only be even more dangerous!
"Run faster! Yong, hurry up!"
Brother Shi shouted, leaving no room for hesitation. He bolted toward the big-wheeled truck!
Yong cast a glance back and then up at the thing atop the building. After a brief mont of hesitation, he decided to run with the others.
But as soon as Yong began to move, the thing responded imdiately. A guttural roar rang through the entire expanse of Wangxing City, and a wave of icy numbness washed over their scalps, spreading shockingly across their entire faces!
The roar wasn’t just a territorial display—it seed to carry so kind of ssage ant for the other zombies as well. As soon as the cry faded, the zombies beneath the overpass erupted in an ear-piercing cacophony of howls!
"F*ck!"
Ghost Head’s group instantly turned pale. The zombie horde below had noticed them! Worse yet, the mysterious creature on the rooftop had now begun to pursue them. Ghost Head turned to glance back, only to see the creature leave behind a streak of blurred afterimages as it moved—its speed completely surpassed his ability to follow with his eyes!
"Ma De! It’s a Level 7 zombie!"
As soon as the thing moved, the group could roughly gauge its strength. Terror gripped them instantly, claiming every corner of their minds! Apart from Yong, the rest of them began trembling uncontrollably as they ran.
A Level 7 zombie! Up until now, they’d only ever seen such zombies on screens. This was the first ti they had personally encountered one. Even the A-level exoskeleton battle suits they wore couldn’t offer them the slightest comfort in this mont!
The Level 7 zombie was terrifyingly fast. In just seconds, it covered a distance of three or four kiloters, closing in until it was less than a hundred ters behind them. And now, they could see its horrifying features—its facial structure vaguely human-like but grotesquely distorted. Its head was unusually small, but its oversized lower jaw occupied half its face. The lower row of teeth easily overlapped the upper teeth, while its forked, snake-like crimson tongue darted sinisterly out.
Every ti it opened its mouth, they could hear its chilling "hiss hiss hiss" sound. Its mismatched rows of sharp teeth, coupled with its pale, dead eyes, gave it the visage of a vengeful ghost.
It sprinted on all fours, its massive forelimbs and grotesque back appendages swinging violently as it moved, emitting an overpowering stench of decay!
Its speed was overwhelming. The group could only despair. Without question, soone was going to die in the next mont. Yong, who was at the back of the group, seed like the most likely victim—but sohow, his expression didn’t appear worried.
"Think of sothing fast! If this keeps up, we’re all going to die here!"
"Who the hell has any ideas?!"
In their desperation, no one dared look back to gauge how close the zombie had co. They could only cry out helplessly.
The horrifying image of Yong being slamd into the ground by the zombie’s claws, followed by his body being ripped apart, was already flashing through their minds!
Suddenly, amidst Snapper’s panicked shouts, they heard the distinctive "zwoop" of a laser gun firing! Imdiately afterward ca the enraged roar of the zombie!
The group was stunned and montarily confused. They glanced back to see the Level 7 zombie inexplicably retreating. Its massive three-ter-long body, standing about half a ter tall at the shoulder, was crouched by the edge of the overpass. Oddly, it didn’t move closer. On its face, a charred black wound was prominently visible as if the flesh there had been burned by intense heat.
"What the..."
"Yong? You hit it?"
Yong, still bringing up the rear as he ran, had his Tianguang laser gun in hand. Judging by the situation, it seed he’d fired a shot—and hit.
Though the shot didn’t seriously injure the Level 7 zombie, it appeared to have startled it.
Yong didn’t respond verbally. He rely nodded silently at Brother Shi, leaving the others in utter disbelief. It was beyond comprehension!
They had seen with their own eyes how incredibly fast the Level 7 zombie was. To hit it with such precision would be akin to shooting a bullet in midair using another bullet—it bordered on the absurd! Such feats had occurred before, but always by sheer coincidence or wild luck. To do it deliberately? It was unthinkable!
It was all so surreal and absurd, and yet they had no ti to dwell on it. They could only keep running, sprinting madly toward the big-wheeled truck ahead.
The Level 7 zombie lingered on the overpass, seemingly caught in deep thought. But it didn’t give them much of a reprieve. Before long, it let out another blood-curdling roar and once again charged at them, exuding an aura so oppressive it felt like their hearts would stop, their breath ceasing entirely.
"Faster! Run faster!" Ghost Head scread in desperation, his voice tearing through the air as he led the pack. No one dared look back. Perhaps Yong had only been lucky with that earlier shot—but luck wasn’t sothing one could rely on endlessly.
Ghost Head wanted to glance back to check the situation, but he didn’t have the courage. Then, in the next second, he didn’t need to. He only had to lift his head—because the zombie leaped over them, its shadow streaking across his line of sight!
"What the f*ck!"
Ghost Head cursed loudly, coming to an abrupt halt. The others imdiately stopped as well. The Level 7 zombie was now directly in front of them, howling with bloodlust. Its murderous gaze was so intense that no one dared et its eyes.
Yet, perhaps in its eagerness, the zombie landed too forcefully. The overpass beneath them suddenly gave way, fracturing and crumbling. The fissures spread rapidly in their direction, forcing the group to retreat. However, bad luck struck Bald Head—an entire section of the road beside him collapsed, and he plumted downward!
