"Stay back."
Tang Ye said as he stripped off all his clothes. A soldier handed him a towel to wipe off the disgusting pus from his neck and face. He then changed into the new clothes provided by the soldier.
"When will Xu Haishui return?"
The soldiers knew that Tang Ye was asking about Xu Haishui, the vice chairman of the Peace Party. They shook their heads and replied, "He didn’t say. He ntioned he was going out to draw the corpse tide here but didn’t specify when he’d be back."
Tang Ye nodded, "Since that’s the case, notify everyone to open all the northern gates completely. Ensure all the streets leading here from the northern entrances are clear and unobstructed, and keep a close watch on our defenses. We can’t let any of those ghostly creatures cross over."
"Yes!"
The soldiers shouted loudly. However, at that mont, one of the soldiers approached Tang Ye with sothing to say.
"What is it?"
Tang Ye noticed the soldier’s strange expression and frowned. His query made the soldier’s face turn even more hesitant. The surrounding soldiers seed to know what had happened, falling silent and directing their gazes toward their comrade who stood next to Tang Ye with sothing to say.
The atmosphere made Tang Ye feel an unusual unease. He turned to the soldier next to him and asked in a stern voice, "What happened? Speak!"
"This..."
The soldier glanced around at his comrades. Their stares made him feel an unprecedented tension, fearing that revealing what had happened might lead to Tang Ye killing him on the spot!
That would be an undeserved death.
He sowhat regretted stepping forward. Knowing what he knew now, it seed like a better deal if soone else died. As for himself, it was as if nothing had happened.
But it was too late. Even though he didn’t want to speak now, Tang Ye’s relentless gaze told him he had to.
"I... Marshal, your... Miss Li has been kidnapped!" After stamring for a bit, he finally closed his eyes and blurted out the rest of the sentence in one breath.
The words echoed repeatedly in Tang Ye’s mind, virtually instantaneously conjuring the image of Li Qingtian.
In the United District, Miss Li could only be Li Qingtian!
Tang Ye felt sowhat dazed. Li Qingtian had been kidnapped? The United District was his territory—who would dare kidnap Li Qingtian?
"She’s been kidnapped? My sister?" Tang Ye repeated in a daze while the soldier opposite him nodded.
"How could she possibly be kidnapped?"
"We don’t know; it wasn’t our people from the United District."
"Then who was it?"
"It seems to be Lin Jie, soone who took over a sanctuary. We captured one of them and only then did we learn that the person who kidnapped Miss Li was Lin Jie."
"Lin Jie?"
Tang Ye’s mind thundered, imdiately realizing it was the Level 7 New Human who had nearly killed Ah Fu in Jiuge. He had co for revenge. In the United District, who else would dare kidnap the marshal’s relative but soone who could contend with the marshal of the United District? And that person was Lin Jie!
A fierce murderous intent flashed through Tang Ye’s eyes as he thought, "I haven’t even co looking for you, yet you dare to co to !" A streak of blood flashed deep in his pupils, filled with endless ferocity!
"Lin Jie took over a sanctuary? And you extracted this information from soone at the sanctuary?"
"Yes," the soldier nodded. Under severe interrogation earlier, a soldier from the sanctuary had spilled everything that had happened there. Now, the head of the sanctuary had been killed, and the current head was that guy nad Lin Jie, and the entire sanctuary was under control!
What Tang Ye didn’t understand was, now that Lin Jie had control over the sanctuary, why were people still entering the United District, and what for?
"Take to that person, I want to ask him myself!"
"Yes!" the soldier nodded again. Seeing that Tang Ye wasn’t extrely furious or intent on killing him, he breathed a sigh of relief and led Tang Ye to the place where Li Qingtian had previously been captured by Lin Jie.
"Marshal, it’s just ahead."
After crossing the street, Tang Ye followed the soldier to another section of the defense line. As soon as they arrived, Tang Ye saw several people gathered ahead. Upon seeing him and the soldier, soone hurried up to them.
"Marshal," a few soldiers greeted Tang Ye respectfully, then turned to the soldier with Tang Ye, frowned, and shook their heads.
"What’s wrong?" the soldier asked, puzzled.
Tang Ye, seeing the shaking of the head, also narrowed his eyes, feeling a sense of foreboding.
"What happened again?" Tang Ye asked him afterward.
"Marshal, co with and see for yourself," the soldier replied.
The soldier led Tang Ye into the crowd. When the soldiers saw Tang Ye, they quickly cleared a path, and Tang Ye saw what was inside.
It was a corpse. In the post-apocalyptic world, that wasn’t unusual, but the words flashed through Tang Ye’s mind.
"The person is dead, and the clue is cut off!"
The way the corpse surrounded by the soldiers had died was bizarre, all flesh shriveled, the skin dry and yellow, clinging to the bones, clearly a mummy! All bodily functions had ceased! It lay motionless in a pool of blood.
"What happened?" Tang Ye asked everyone.
"Marshal, he should have told you about this area. This person was a mber of the sanctuary that we captured. But right when he was about to report to you, he turned into this, now a mummy. However, we found this on the back of his neck," another soldier stepped forward, taking a bloodstained shard from another soldier. It was a fragnt of a slavery worm.
"What is this?" Seeing the strange pile of fragnts, Tang Ye was also puzzled. The fragnts seed to be shaped like an insect when assembled together.
"We don’t know either, but it’s this thing that dried out all the water in his body."
"Dried out all the water?" Tang Ye picked up a piece of glass shard, which was covered in thick blood. The indescribably tempting sll of blood lingered at the tip of Tang Ye’s nose.
"Yes."
"When did this happen?"
"Just half a minute after he left to report to you."
"He was from the sanctuary... I have looked into it, there are quite a few sanctuaries distributed in Longyang City. Did he say which sanctuary he was from?"
"He did; it’s called Cigong Sanctuary."
"Cigong Sanctuary?"
"Yes, that’s the sanctuary. But what’s troubling us is, we only captured this person, and now he’s dead, cutting off the clue. Perhaps he wasn’t the only one who ca to our United District. His sudden death is likely due to this thing, which might be remotely controlled by soone to control others. His death might an that others who ca from Cigong Sanctuary to the United District have been killed by this thing as well."
