To get so close to his goal, only to fail completely in the end. That was a result Felix absolutely did not expect.
Well, how could he? Who would have thought Kade would reject his offer just so that he could keep on pursuing him? It made no sense! That was a miracle cure they were talking about! And four doses of it, at that!
...Should Felix have offered all five?
No, that wouldn’t make any difference. Four was already a lot, and yet Kade rejected it so firmly...
It was stupid. Absolutely ridiculous. There was clearly sothing wrong with Kade’s brain! Yes, Felix was beautiful, he knew it. He was a desirable and strong Oga. It wasn’t his personal opinion, he knew for a fact that there were plenty of Alphas and male Betas back at the Moonhill Pack that found him attractive, so there was no point in him to pretend to be humble and deny that.
But so what if he was good-looking? He was not the only one! There were plenty of stunning Ogas around, and soone like Kade had undoubtedly plenty that were ready to throw themselves at his feet. And ones that were not runaways with another fated mate still bonded to them. Ones that had good connections, and would bring Kade a lot of benefits if he chose them.
So there was no need for him to be fixated on Felix! Rather, it would be much better for him to give up! For both of them!
"Ah, Remi," he sighed, dragging himself to the bedroom, and falling flat on the bed. "Why can’t I just have a peaceful life?"
He didn’t have any grand dreams, he never had. All he wanted was a quiet, simple life. And perhaps to find soone he liked - genuinely liked, for who they were, not for so pre-decided bond that they had - and who liked him in return. Just that.
But, no matter how hard he tried, fate had other plans.
...Right. Fate. It was all because of that. Those damned fated mate bonds were at the root of all of his problems.
"I wish I were a fox instead," he muttered, watching Remi, who was resting right next to him. "You don’t have any fickle Goddesses that try to decide your fate, now do you?"
Remi stared back at him with his piercing blue eyes, blinking slowly. Then, it shifted closer, squeezing under Felix’s arm, and licked his face, taking the Oga by surprise.
"What, trying to cheer up?" he chuckled, a sudden warmth spreading in his chest. "Thank you very much..."
Felix wrapped his arm around Remi, hugging him tighter, as he inhaled the familiar jasmine scent, instantly relaxing, his worries receding a bit.
It was too early to lose hope. Maybe Kade was just too emotional earlier. Perhaps once he thought it through at ho (or, well, at the hotel), he’d realize that the deal Felix had offered him was the best solution for everyone. Maybe he would talk to his parents waiting for him back at the Bloodmoon Pack. They would know to prioritize the sick person, who was probably one of the pack Elders, or maybe Kade’s sibling? Soone important for sure, since Kade was personally looking for the redy. And, as the leader and the Luna of the pack, they would be able to convince Kade to give up on his rogue mate. Then Kade would agree to the deal, and leave, and everything would co back to norm... Right?
***
Wrong.
For the first two days, Felix convinced himself he was right. Kade just needed so ti to accept reality.
For the next three days, he was hopeful. Surely, before long, the Alpha would co to his senses.
At the end of the week, he was praying. Let the Goddess cancel their bond, or bond Kade to one more Oga, so that he would no longer care about Felix.
After the tenth day, he was standing in front of the mirror, staring at the bump on his stomach, which seed to be growing with each day. He was quickly running out of ti...
All while Kade showed absolutely no signs of wanting to change his mind. The Alpha must have had cotton candy for brain, to reject a great deal like that!
Whatever was wrong with Kade and his ntal capabilities, it put Felix in quite a tough spot. The longer the Alpha was looking around, the higher were the chances he might end up finding the rmaid eventually. And once he did, then forget the original deal, Felix would lose any right to negotiate! It would be all for naught!
So, as much as it hurt him to do so, he decided a compromise (aning: Felix giving in) was necessary. Early in the morning on the eleventh day after their failed negotiations, before the sunrise, he sneaked into the witch’s house, circling around the building to one inconspicuous spot at the back. There, he removed a few loose bricks, and took out the box hidden inside. It might have seen as such an unsafe place to hide sothing so valuable, but that was the witch’s house, after all! No one in their right mind would dare snoop around too much. As for Felix, he was shown that spot by Remi, so he assud (hoped) that it was alright.
Well, the box was still there, even after more than a week, and Felix hadn’t been cursed or anything, so his assumption must have been right.
He hid the box in his backpack, and swiftly returned ho. Then, he hid one of the vials under the floorboards - for himself, in case of ergencies. While his health had improved recently, and even the weird itchiness of his neck went away... Who knew if he wouldn’t have any pregnancy complications? Or if his pup wouldn’t get sick after they were born? Felix didn’t know whether Brielle would be willing to help him again, so it was better to be prepared.
Once it was all done, he got changed, wearing clothes that best concealed his bump, threw the backpack over his shoulder, and went to et Kade at the hotel.
