Steam was rising from the cups of coffee standing on the table in front of them. There was also a plate of plain cookies in the middle. They were sitting on the sofas, not by the desk, which gave the eting a more casual, comfortable atmosphere, even though they were still undoubtedly in the pack leader’s office.

But that atmosphere vanished in a blink, once Kade and Felix were left alone with Einar, and the leader opened his mouth.

"We would like to contact the leader of the Moonhill Pack to discuss your situation soon."

It was like an air bubble was suddenly popped with a needle. Although Felix had been nervous before, it was still manageable. But now, his stomach instantly dropped, and he felt dizzy and nauseous, as if he were about to throw up or faint. Or both.

Contact the leader of the Moonhill Pack? Contact Jared? To discuss Felix? Now that explained why Kade had seed so nervous...

There was no way Felix could possibly take that well.

"Before you say anything, let explain," seeing Felix’s ashen expression, Einar spoke up again. "I understand that you are not on good terms with the Moonhill Pack, and I don’t expect you to participate in any eting that might take place. However, if you continue to stay at our pack, the issue will co up eventually, and I believe it’s better to deal with it sooner rather than later."

"I’m sure you are aware of your ’missing’ status," he continued after a mont. "Although the Moonhill Pack is only a dium-sized pack, the cases of werewolves reported as ’missing’ are fairly rare, which makes them more morable. I have received reports that so of our pack mbers have already begun to suspect your identity. At this rate, it’s only a matter of ti until you are found out."

"Considering the tiline, I assu you have gotten pregnant around the ti you left the pack, is that correct?"

"...Yes, that’s right," Felix admitted hesitantly. He had gotten pregnant precisely a day before his escape...

Einar nodded his head. He didn’t ask about the pup’s father or anything. Well, Lorelei already knew about it, so he must have heard about it as well, but still, Felix expected the Alpha to interrogate him or ask him for details. Thankfully, Einar didn’t - whether that was out of consideration for Felix, or because he considered it unnecessary, Felix didn’t know, but he was grateful for it nonetheless - and just got straight to the point.

"We can use it to our advantage. Because you were reported as ’missing’, rather than as a rogue, we can claim that you went into hiding because of your illegitimate pup. This way, you will face less backlash for your actions. However, in order to achieve that, we will require the Moonhill Pack’s cooperation..."

Felix bit his lip. What Einar was saying made a lot of sense. Indeed, it would make sense to hide his pregnancy. And if the Moonhill Pack was aware of his reasons, and knew who the father of the pup was, naturally they wouldn’t report him as rogue - after all, it could offend the Bloodmoon Pack if they had branded the mother of the pup of the heir to their pack as a criminal, legitimate pup or not... Felix would still face so criticism for running away, but it wouldn’t be so bad. And it could also serve to confirm Kade’s paternity.

However...

"Uh, Leader, if I may... I’m not sure if the Moonhill Pack will be willing to cooperate," he said hesitantly. "The thing is... The real reason that I was reported missing instead of as a rogue is because I’m... Jared Thorne’s fated mate..."

"I am aware of that." Einar wasn’t taken aback in the slightest. "You don’t need to worry about it. We can also pressure him to break your bond."

He spoke with unwavering confidence, as if he were talking about the most mundane and easy task, like wiping a table or making coffee (or asking his subordinates to do it for him). As if there was nothing that could possibly go wrong.

Well, no wonder. He was the leader of one of the supre packs. Pressuring a young leader of a dium-sized pack to cooperate with him, regardless of how absurd his demands might be, was probably nothing special for him. After all, how could a dium-sized pack possibly oppose him? That would be like seeking death!

Except,

"I’m afraid it might... not be that easy," Felix couldn’t help but raise his concerns. "I have previously threatened Jared with a curse, and he was still unwilling to break our bond..."

"...A curse?" Einar’s face suddenly turned darker.

That’s right, he had suffered from a curse himself... Of course, the curse Felix had placed on Jared was nowhere that bad, and it was only to protect himself... Not to ntion, he had given Jared a way out, it was just that the Alpha refused to take it...

But still. Curses were probably a touchy subject for Einar. How would he feel that the rogue Oga he had let into his pack, who was staying right by his son’s side, was also cursing people? Probably not too great...

Felix gulped loudly, and before Einar could say anything, he quickly shifted the topic, "A-apparently, it was my father’s order that Jared make his mate."

It seed to have worked, because Einar asked, "Your father’s? Wilder Embermane’s?"

"Yes..." Felix nodded fervently. "I don’t know the details, but it seed very important to Jared... I was only able to force him to leave by making a deal that he could inform my father, and I would then discuss the issue with him..."

"Hmm." Einar rubbed his chin, pondering over it for a mont, before saying, "It might be one of the conditions for Jared Thorne to beco the leader of the pack."

"...Huh?" Felix blinked, surprised. He had never thought about it... But now that Einar ntioned it, it made sense.

It made sense, but... Sohow, it made Felix even more disgusted. His father couldn’t have possibly been so blind as to not realize the hatred Felix felt for Jared. And yet, he insisted that they should beco mates...

Was it because he wanted his bloodline to rule over the pack? But if that was the case, then he should have just had more children, until he had an Alpha heir. Why would he insist on Felix, who had been weak when he was little, and might have inherited a fragile constitution from his mother?

Unless... There was sothing more to it?
