Friends?
Had Eden and Felix ever truly been friends?
Maybe. Eden hadn’t approached Felix because of Kade, after all. They had t before the Alpha first arrived in Silverfall and t Felix. Eden couldn’t have possibly known that Felix would turn out to be anyone worth spying on. So, when he had befriended him and helped him out with the job, he was most likely being genuine...
But that had only been for a month. They had t in December last year... And then in January, Eden had already been a spy for Kade.
Which explained how the Alpha had known Felix’s work schedule and so on. Felix had already had so suspicions before, but he had never investigated it. He hadn’t been so close with the witch back then just yet, and his coworkers leaking the schedule to Kade wasn’t that big of a deal, not when Felix had had more important things to worry about. Besides, Eden hadn’t even been his main suspect at the ti...
"I, I had no choice!" Eden rushed to defend himself. "Young Master Kade, he... He threatened ! He had discovered my identity, and if I hadn’t listened to him, he could have revealed my whereabouts to my forr pack..."
Felix just remained silent, staring blankly at his lap.
Since Eden had said so while under the truth spell, then it must have been the truth. It didn’t seem unbelievable, either - Kade certainly had the resources to investigate all the rogue werewolves living in Silverfall, if he wanted to. It’d be rather surprising if he didn’t take an interest in one staying so close to his ’fated mate’... And if he had any blackmail material against soone, then it was understandable that he would use it to plant a spy who, unlike his guards, had a chance to earn Felix’s trust...
Which Eden had succeeded in doing, at least partially. While Felix had never co to trust him fully, he HAD considered him a friend...
Until now, of course.
"Why didn’t you tell ?" he asked quietly after a long mont of silence.
"Tell you?" Eden let out a hysterical chuckle. "Do you think Young Master Kade would have let off if I told you?"
...Probably not. However,
"I could have kept it a secret for you. We could have discussed it together. I wouldn’t let Kade know that I know, and you would continue to make your reports. Only that I would know what you are doing..."
"Do you want to do that from now on, then?" Eden suggested.
But Felix just shook his head in response.
It was too late for that.
"Please put him under those spells we initially discussed," he said to Remi, as he got up from his seat and left the room. Eden tried to call after him in a weak voice, but Felix didn’t turn back.
He didn’t wait for the fox either. When Remi was busy casting the spell, Felix just sneaked out of the house on his own. Remi would understand, and Felix... really wanted to be alone right now. He walked ho, his steps growing quicker and quicker, until he eventually broke into a run... He wanted to shift, but he didn’t want to ruin his clothes. Although he was no longer strapped for cash, that wasn’t a reason to be wasteful!
So, he returned ho first, and undressed behind the house, leaving his clothes hidden near the door. Vivi was at Brielle’s place, and didn’t have to pick her up until morning, so it was the best ti to go for a run in the forest outside of town in his wolf form... He hadn’t done that for so long, since he had been so busy with his pup and all.
He sneaked out of town quietly, and entered the dark, misty forest. The snow was crunching underneath his paws, occasional tiny branches hidden underneath the white layer breaking with a crack. Sounds of night wildlife ca from the distance, but Felix paid no attention to it... He was a wolf, after all, an apex predator, so he didn’t have much to fear.
He ran straight ahead, not thinking where he was going. The cold wind ruffled his golden brown fur and cleared his head...
Truth be told, betrayed and disappointed as he might have felt, he couldn’t really hold it against Eden. It concerned his safety, after all. If Felix had been in his place, he might have done the sa... He was quite sure he would. It was easy for him to say ’you should have told about it’ now, but if the roles were reversed... Since he didn’t entirely trust Eden, he might not have wanted to take the risk by informing him about the problem.
So, the longer he thought about it, the more he understood the Oga...
But understanding and letting it slide were two different things. No matter what his reasons were, Eden had been spying on Felix. Who knows how many things about Felix he had reported to Kade? And all those tis he brought up Felix’s relationship with Kade... Was it to try to convince him to give the Alpha a chance, because he was working for him?
...Eden had been a spy, while Felix had broken into Eden’s house to interrogate him under a spell. In a way, they were both worth each other...
However, they were most certainly not friends.
And now, Eden’s mory had been altered. Even if he wanted to, he could no longer report to Kade...
But Kade would probably contact him eventually, if he stopped receiving reports. So, Felix would have to solve the situation sohow...
He felt that he owed Eden at least this much, since it was because of Felix that he had been threatened by Kade. If he hadn’t been close to Felix, who had been Kade’s fated mate, then the Alpha probably wouldn’t have bothered with him...
And if Felix hadn’t been Kade’s fated mate, then perhaps they could have been friends for real.
Alas, there was no point thinking about it now. At this point, Eden had been a spy for Kade for much, much longer than he had been genuine with Felix... So there was no friendship to speak of.
