Whoosh!
A massive shadow enveloped the aircraft, its wings shining brightly under the night sky. The glint of a massive creature beca apparent as it swooped down, crashing the whole aircraft in one fell swoop.
"WHAT THE F*CK?! WHAT THE F*CKING F*CK WAS THAT?! NO! MY RIDE! HOW—"
The rogue’s outrage rang in my ears, his bravado shattered in an instant as panic washed over him. I couldn’t help but smirk, watching the chaotic scene unfold before . Macaron had sent the rogue’s plans crashing down along with his hopes of escape.
"Now, what did you say to again?" I said, my voice steady, a calm contrast to the rogue’s frenzied deanor.
"Ah..Uhm..Can we talk about this? I don’t think rember saying anything to you. It was just my anger talking—" The Rogue was sweating profusely as he tried to back away from .
Just as I was about to strike the rogue, a massive, burly man suddenly jumped from the sky, landing with a thud on top of the wrangler. I quickly dodged to the side, avoiding a stray rock as it whizzed past my ear. The rogue, however, wasn’t so lucky. A sharp piece of rock stabbed right through his heart, ending his life in an instant.
I stared at the man before and for a mont, I felt my mind struggle to comprehend how soone so—and there was no gentle way to put this—fat could have jumped from the sky and landed with such force. Everywhere I looked, I only saw fat. Mountains of it.
However, another one caught my eye just now. There was a flailing figure stuck between the folds of his belly. I can’t help but cringe at the sight of it.
The fat— I an burly man must have caught staring at the person that he smirked and pulled him out of his belly folds.
"It appears your prince charming was following you," he said nonchalantly, effortlessly pulling Ezekiel from the folds of his belly as if he were a rag doll. Ezekiel gasped for air, still trying to escape from the burly man.
"Co on! Was it really necessary to trap in these layers of fat? Let go!" Ezekiel shouted. He was struggling as much as he could but the man didn’t even budge at all.
"Ezekiel?" I looked at Ezekiel with questioning eyes but he only avoided my gaze. I’ll deal with him later.
For now, I shifted my focus back to the situation at hand and calmly picked up the case which was now close to but before I could at least open it, the giant man’s low, threatening voice cut through the air like a knife. "I suggest you release that case, lady."
I retorted back. "You release that prince first then."
The man didn’t respond but he stared at threateningly.
I sighed, frustration seeping into my voice as I reiterated, "Let that prince go, or this case gets it." I pointed my dagger firmly at the suitcase, solidifying my stance.
"You think you’re in a position to negotiate with ?" he rumbled, crossing his massive arms over his vast belly, which quivered slightly as he stood firm.
Without responding to his taunt, I switched the dagger into my arcanum, transforming it elegantly into a gleaming sword pulsing with energy as I channeled my mana into it. The blade humd and glowed brightly.
The man snorted, a hint of amusent seeping through the threat in his voice. "Do you actually think you would be safe from the governnt if they know you were the last one seen with this boy?" He gave Ezekiel a slight shake, emphasizing his control.
Now’s my ti to snort at him. "Pfft. Do you think I care? You can kill him right here, right now. But how about you? Do you think you’d actually be safe from your employer or boss knowing that the crystal is destroyed?"
We glared at each other for a while, waiting for who will give up first. After a mont, the man sighed and raised his hand. "...You clever witch. Fine, he’s yours." In one fluid motion, he tossed Ezekiel towards .
But instead of catching him, I swiftly moved to the side as he landed beside with a loud thud. I was curious why he had followed , but clearly, now wasn’t the ti for questions.
I snapped back my attention to the man when he spoke again. "I gave you the boy now it’s your turn to give the case," he demanded.
If only the plot didn’t change then I would have turned over the Mana Essence to the authorities here but with this man in front of , I couldn’t act recklessly. I had to be cautious, especially since I still had no idea who he truly was or what his abilities are.
"Fine, you can have it," I said, a hint of reluctance creeping into my voice as I tossed the case in front of him.
I thought he would leave once he got the case but in an instant, a massive fist sliced through the space between us, flying directly towards our direction. Instinctively, the first thing I did was to move in front of Ezekiel to protect him from the attack. I just stood there, eyes wide open while bracing myself for the impact.
However, my body wasn’t in pain. I was staring straight at the massive fist just an inch away from my face.
The man seed satisfied with my reaction, drawing back his arm with a chuckle. "You’ve got so balls right there, kid. The na’s Dagur, and I have a feeling we’ll et again soon." With those words, he leaped high into the air, vanishing into the night like smoke dissipating in the wind.
I stood there completely frozen, heart racing. I was still calming the adrenaline coursing through , as my near-death experience just now repeatedly played in my mind. I forgot the Mana Essence when his na appeared on my mind.
’What did he say his na was again? Dagur? As in one of the mbers of Nightjars?’
I dragged my trembling body to a nearby tree, leaning against it for support. The encounter with Dagur played on a loop in my mind. He looked so different from the suave, brooding figure I had described in my novel. How had the hot daddy I had created turned into a big lump of fat?
As I tried to sort through my chaotic thoughts, I suddenly felt the weight of a gaze behind . I turned around and saw Ezekiel sitting a few feet away, looking like a damsel in distress. In the chaos of my confrontation with Dagur, I had montarily forgotten he was even there.
"Are you okay? Did that man hurt you?" I rushed to him, concern flooding my thoughts.
He shook his head. "No, I’m okay."
Just to be sure, I carelessly patted his body to check if he’s really fine. I unknowingly lifted his clothes a little and check for any scrapes. The last thing I needed was to get arrested for injuring the prince of Eldoria while trying to save him. But as I was in the middle of examining him, I didn’t notice that his face was red.
Once I concluded my check, I sat beside him and turned to face him, my mind swirling with questions. That’s when I noticed that his face was a little bit red.
I imdiately held his face using both of my hands while asking him, "Hey I thought you were fine. Why is your face red? Did you consu so poison?"
He shook his head vigorously, his blush deepening. "N-no, I’m fine! Really!"
Still not convinced, I pressed my forehead against his to check for a fever, surprised at the warmth radiating from him. But before I could take a proper assessnt, he suddenly covered my eyes with his hands.
"What’s happening to you Ezekie-" I mumbled, bewildered as I tried to pry his hands away, but he only tightened his grip.
"Zeke. Just call Zeke," he said softly, his breath warm against my skin.
"O-okay? Now Zeke, why are you covering my eyes?" I was utterly perplexed by his reaction while letting my hands stay on top of his.
"Just stay still for a mont," he implored.
I paused my struggles, curiosity winning out over my confusion. What was he up to? The feeling of his hands over my eyes was oddly comforting, and the gentle way he held them made wonder if he had sothing else in mind.
"Back then, why did you help ? On our exams and even now," he softly asked. "We weren’t even close to begin with."
I don’t know what to say. How could I explain to him that his existence was crucial? I can’t just say to him that ’Hey, you are one of the supporting character and if I let you die, the original plot would continue and the remaining main characters would greatly suffer in which I would have a hard ti protecting them!’
