I Was Reincarnated as a Dungeon, So What? I Just Want to Take a Nap. Chapter 15: The Grumpy Gryphon
The Guild Bulletin Board was a thing of beauty. I manifested it on a clear patch of wall next to the Tea Nook, and the handso, dark wood seed to absorb the dungeon’s soft light, giving it a warm, inviting glow. The Iron Gryphons insignia, carved at the top, was a clear sign that my little sanctuary was now officially connected to the outside world.
FaeLina zipped around it, her eyes wide with excitent. "This is it, Mochi! This is how we get rich! They’ll post quests for legendary artifacts, bounties on dangerous monsters! Adventurers will flock here, bringing their gold and their precious, precious Dungeon Points!"
As if on cue, a shimr of golden light spread across the board’s surface. Magical script began to etch itself into the wood. The first quest had arrived.
FaeLina flew over to read it, her voice filled with anticipation. "Quest Posted by: Gilda of the Iron Gryphons. Title: ’Slay the—’ oh, wait." She paused, her voice faltering. She squinted at the board.
"Quest Title: ’The Grumpy Gryphon’," she read aloud, her tone shifting from excitent to utter disappointnt.
"Description: Our guild’s mascot, a majestic gryphon nad General Fluffington, has been in a terrible mood for weeks. He refuses to eat his favorite smoked fish, he’s molting his feathers unevenly, and he keeps snapping at the stable boy hands. We need a specialist to figure out why he is so stressed and, if possible, cheer him up."
FaeLina stared at the board in stunned silence.
"Reward: 10 Gold Coins," she finished in a flat, dead voice. "Mochi... our first official quest... is for an animal therapist."
I, on the other hand, was intrigued. This was exactly the kind of problem I was built to solve. It wasn’t about violence; it was about healing and comfort. It fit my new philosophy perfectly.
[Quest: ’The Grumpy Gryphon’ has been posted. Accept?]
Yes, I commanded the system.
[Quest Accepted!]
"You accepted it?!" FaeLina shrieked, flying in front of my core. "That’s great, but what’s your plan? Are you going to grow legs and walk over to their guild hall to have a heart-to-heart with a giant, angry bird-cat?"
She had a point. My influence was limited to the dungeon itself. But I had agents. I had staff.
My attention turned to the plush knight, who was quietly standing guard in the Hibernation Hollows.
A few monts later, Sir Crumplebuns marched heroically up the stairs.
"My lord, you have summoned ?" he bood.
I have a noble quest for you, Sir Crumplebuns, I projected. A majestic beast is in distress and requires your aid.
The plush knight’s yarn plu quivered with excitent. "A quest! A creature in need! I shall not fail you, my lord! My fluffy sword is at your service!"
FaeLina looked horrified. "You’re sending a talking doll to diagnose a grumpy, half-eagle, half-lion magical beast? Gilda’s report said it was six hundred pounds! It’s going to be torn into stuffing!"
He won’t be going empty-handed, I assured her.
I focused my will and a small portion of my DP, accessing my core’s crafting abilities. A mont later, a small, perfect-looking cherry tart materialized on the Tea Nook counter. It radiated a faint, calming aura.
[Item Crafted: ’Cheer-Up Cherry Tart’ (Infused with calming magic). Cost: 10 DP.]
Sloosh the sli waiter carefully placed the warm ’Cheer-Up Cherry Tart’ into a small wicker basket. Beside it, he tucked the sealed flask of his famous ’Mont of Peace’ tea. As a final, thoughtful touch, I materialized a tiny, hand-stitched note tied with a piece of twine.
The note read: ’For General Fluffington. We hope this helps you feel better. - The Staff of The Comfy Corner.’
It wasn’t a care package for a soldier on a long journey; it was a care package designed specifically for soothing a troubled heart.
Sir Crumplebuns took the basket’s handle in his plush hand and saluted bravely. "Ard with these tools of tranquility, I shall venture forth and bring comfort to this troubled soul! Farewell!"
With that, the plush knight marched out of the dungeon entrance and into the wide world beyond. It was the first ti one of my creations had ever left ho.
FaeLina and I were left to wait.
"This is a disaster," FaeLina muttered, pacing nervously in the air. "He’s going to be turned into pillow filling. Our reputation with the guild will be ruined before it even begins."
I remained calm. I had faith in my plushy knight.
As we waited, a new notification pinged in my awareness. It wasn’t from the quest. It was a dark, crimson red.
[Reputation with ’Forces of Chaos’ has decreased!]
[Reason: Your dungeon has successfully repelled a scout and ford an alliance with a lawful guild. Lord Vorlag of the Blood Pit is... displeased.]
[Your Status has been updated: ’Annoying Pest’ -> ’Marked Target’.]
FaeLina saw the alert and her face went pale.
"Oh, great," she whispered. "While our best knight is out trying to cheer up a sad gryphon, we’ve just been put on a hit list."
