"Good afternoon, Prince Jas!"

"At ease soldier, please, carry on."

For the past ten minutes, Jas had been inundated with cheerful greetings. Unlike his previous visits to the barracks, this one was during the dayti so the soldiers had a sense of decorum.

’Son of a...’

Another one rounded a corner and snapped to attention. He cut her off before she could speak.

"Carry on soldier, keep up the good work."

Emily and Veronica snickered behind his back at his unfortunate circumstance.

He glared back at the two before he kept walking towards the training ground. As they grew nearer, sounds of ringing tal and grunting won sounded out.

Jas heard a familiar voice snapping commands.

"Who the hell said you could take a break Private!? Get off your ass and move!"

A mont later, Susan yelled again.

"Goddess above! You call yourself a corporal!? Show so damn grit you worm!"

Jas smiled as he walked into the large open area, the fond mories of his ti in the army flooding back.

Then he heard sothing that was apparently universal in the military.

"Soldier! Who is your fucking squad leader!?"

Jas cringed a little, being asked that was a sure-fire way to piss off everyone in the squad. The leader would get reprimanded and take it out on the subordinates.

’That’s the cycle of life in the military I suppose...’

There were won running laps around the training field while so engaged in practice fights with wooden weapons. Jas saw a particularly sorry bunch of soldiers low crawling through a pit of mud.

Suddenly, a few people noticed him and paused. They snapped to attention and shouted loudly.

"AT-TEN-TION!"

The whole yard paused in its activity and turned to see which bigwig had ca down to the training grounds.

Jas turned as well, forgetting he was the one in charge.

Everyone stopped what they were doing to move to the position of attention.

Susan ran over insanely fast and stopped right in front of him, giving a crisp salute.

"Knock it off Susan, I’m here to test out my abilities a little. Tell your girls to resu whatever they’re doing."

She smirked and waited, Jas sighed while returning the salute.

"Happy now? Stop being obtuse already, the stares are making a little uncomfortable."

Susan laughed quietly and relaxed, she knew Jas didn’t like the attention and always tried to use that to press his buttons.

"Sorry Prince Jas, just protocol. What would my soldiers think if I didn’t give you the proper respect."

Her teasing smile made Jas groan a little.

"They would probably think that I’m a great guy who doesn’t care about formality..."

He said this bitterly and waived Susan off.

Soon, the earlier scene from before returned and Jas walked over to a sowhat unoccupied area with training dummies.

He heard that they were enchanted with durability inscriptions and hoped that they would hold up to the few tests he wanted to conduct.

Jas was about 20 paces away from one training dummy and couldn’t stop himself any longer.

"Firebolt."

A sudden surge of energy coalesced in his hand, and he stared as glowing orange fire danced in his palm. He almost shit himself when it passed by his face.

Jas had his palm up to watch what would happen and almost maid himself. He just assud that the magic would stay in his hand until... well actually he didn’t know.

He heard Emily bust out in full belly laughter and Veronica tried to hide a giggle.

’Just great. I managed to ruin my super cool image in about five seconds. You were supposed to be my friend magic-kun...’

Jas brought up the description and watched his mama slowly tick back up.

[Skill: Firebolt (Level 20)]

Description: Launch a bolt of fire out of the designated hand (Default: Right). Chance to light target on fire 20% (Level 20)

Base magic force: 10 damage.

Base fire damage: 15 damage.

Bonus skill damage: 100% (Level 20)

Cost: 10 mana

He’d gotten this skill from his aunt and should’ve asked her what the base magic force was and why it was separate from the fire damage.

’Well, I am going to the academy in a couple days... I’m sure they have magic teachers to help understand this bullshit.’

That feeling of energy flooding his palm was exhilarating and Jas almost couldn’t stop himself from imdiately casting it again. There wasn’t a cooldown, and he thought this skill was a little overpowered.

This was the first ti he’d ever used magic; it was sothing he never thought possible before and Jas smiled wide even though he just made a fool of himself.

He stopped after a mont and thought.

’Is that really the first ti I’ve used magic? I’m pretty sure [Entoxicating Scent] has to be so form of magic, unless I’m like so sort of skunk that sprays horniness...’

He shook his head and fixed his shoulders.

’Let’s worry about that later... for now it’s ti too—’

Jas held out his palm towards the training dummy.

"Firebolt!"

That surge of energy flowed to his hand and released once more, and a Jas watched as it blasted away.

It reached the dummy very fast, and a muffled boom followed.

When it hit, a ball of fire exploded outward before dissipating.

’That was fucking aweso!!!’

The dummy seed to be fine, and Jas quickly fired off another shot.

"Firebolt!"

And again.

"Firebolt!"

"Firebolt!"

Jas wanted to jump up in the air and run around, using magic had maxed out his enthusiasm ter.

A voice stopped him from continuing his assault on the dummy.

"Uhh.. Jas. You might want to stop hitting that one."

Veronica got his attention and pointed to the dummy that showed a large crack in its chest. It was starting to smoke as well.

"Whoops..."

Jas looked around and saw half the training yard staring at him in shock.

"Ahem.. nothing to see here... get back to training ladies."

He stifled the embarrassnt of losing himself in his eagerness to use magic and headed a short distance away. Now standing in front of a different dummy, he held both palms out.

"Magic Missile!"

An even greater feeling of energy roiled inside his body. It went through his chest and gathered in his arms before solidifying in front of him.

Blueish white light of arcane force appeared in three separate orbs and grew steadily bigger. He released it after a mont even though he felt that he could keep pouring more mana into it.

The orbs rotated in front of him before slinging off towards his target, he thought he missed as they sunk and rose in the air, but all three connected with the dummy at various points.

An even greater boom echoed now and Jas smile could’ve split his face from how happy he was.

The description for this skill only had a magic force damage that was calculated into the attack.

[Skill: Magic Missile (Level 15)]

Description: Launch three orbs of pure mana at a target. Charge this skill to increase damage output (Max charge duration: 5 seconds)

Base magic force: 5 damage per orb

Bonus skill damage: 75% per second charged

Cost: 20 mana (-2 mana for every second charged)

Jas had only charged this skill for a second or two, but the effect was staggering.

The dummy had cracked after one shot. Well three shots, but one use of the skill.

’Let’s see... I’m no good at math but if 75% of 5 is... 8.75 then that tis 3 plus the original damage.. wait no. Is the original damage calculated separately or is it just a flat 8.75 multiplied by 3? And if it is then does the percentage stack on itself? Why is magic so complicated...’

Jas’s brain was lting trying to figure out the calculation with a lack of sufficient information.

He then slapped his forehead.

’I’m such an idiot! The combat log!’

He pulled it up and saw what he needed. Jas did another shot of [Magic Missile] at full power to see the result.

"Fuck math, Magic Missile bitch!"

He charged the skill the extra 5 seconds and felt his hands tremble slightly with the power.

Like a rocket, the orbs blasted forwards, a few tis larger than before.

Boom Boom Boom

The concussive blasts sent a cloud of dust shooting back at him.

’Fuck ! Let’s rember not to stand so close next ti...’

Jas wiped grit out of his eyes and coughed while he waited for the air to clear.

He brought up his combat log to check what the damage was.

(You have inflicted 49 damage x3 on target

Training Dummy for a total of 146 magic force damage.)

’Holy shit!’

Now that Jas had his baseline to work off of, he finally understood the calculation behind the math.

’So, it’s 1.75 multiplied by 5 which is the flat rate of 8.75... that ans charging for one second makes all three orbs hit for a total... 26.75. Multiply that by the amount of seconds I charge it for, then it brings up to 131.75... then I have to add in the original 15 damage. I guess the combat log rounds up to the highest number.’

He looked through the combat log and saw the other magic he used do an even 50 damage per hit.

’Magic is so cool!’

Jas pumped his fist in the air after figuring out the math.

’I’m not really sure why I even calculated that though... I’ve never even really used the combat log till now and it’s not like the monsters or people I’ve been fighting are near enough to my level to see their health pool.’

This thought didn’t stop Jas’s excitent however, because he was using actual magic!

He stopped his inner rambling and looked up when noticed it was eerily quiet. Turning, he saw the soldiers in the training yard staring at him slack jawed.

Jas looked back at the training dummy and raised an eyebrow.

’I could’ve sworn it was right... oh shit. I completely blasted it away.’

He heard Susan’s voice cut through the stillness.

"Alright you tramps, stop staring at Prince Jas’s backside like he’ll let you have a piece! Move damn it, no one said it was ti to slack off!"

Activity resud around him, but Jas definitely felt the stares directed at him.

Veronica thought out loud and helped him understand why they were so dumbfounded at his actions.

"I bet they are surprised to see a man with such power. Everyone knows how delicate and weak most of them are. They probably can’t wrap their heads around you being so strong."

Jas nodded slowly.

’I had forgotten that fact. Everyone around thinks of it as normal now and have stopped questioning about my perk.’

He suddenly felt very drained. The idea of going to the academy and explaining his strength was going to be very annoying.

Jas shook his head and sighed.

’Whatever... that’s a headache for later.’

He brought up the last of his combat magic and smiled. The description of [Ice Blade] sounded so badass.
