Xia Wan’an only then realized they had arrived at an abandoned factory. The road was full of potholes, strewn with rebar and broken stones.
Xia Wan’an, supporting Song Youman, entered a small room inside the warehouse under the urging of the delivery guy; then, the door of the small room was slamd shut and locked.
In the small room, only Xia Wan’an and Song Youman were left. Since the windows were very small, the room was dimly lit, giving a gloomy feeling.
The soundproofing of the small room wasn’t great—to be precise, the factory above was leaky. They could hear the people outside speaking clearly; it seed they were playing cards, occasionally bursting into rowdy laughter, among their chatter filled with habitual profanities.
"Youman, are you okay?" Amidst the noisy racket outside, Xia Wan’an grabbed Song Youman’s extrely trembling hand.
"I...I’m okay..." Song Youman’s tone was clearly much weaker.
Xia Wan’an leaned closer to her, "Youman, listen to , don’t think too much. The more you think, the worse you’ll feel. Think of sothing nice, or pretend this place is a hospital... Or rember when we were kids, the two of us were so naughty, sneaking out to play, then getting lost and not able to find our way ho. It got dark, I was so scared I started crying loudly, you were so mad you wanted to hit . But every slap you tried to land on missed, and in the end, you just grumbled at to stop my crying and carried on your back... You were only a few hours older than , how could you carry ... Looking back, you’ve always been the one pretending to be strong protecting ..."
Xia Wan’an talked a lot and, seeing that Song Youman was not responding, she called her na again, "Youman, are you listening?"
"I am..."
"Do you feel a bit better now?"
"A little better."
"Shall I tell you more about our past?"
"Okay..."
"Do you rember back in middle school, there was this boy who was quite fair-skinned, and he sent love letters and you too, and in the end, both of us beat him up?"
"..."
Xia Wan’an spoke a lot, her mouth dry, but feeling that Song Youman beside her was no longer as tense and agitated, she didn’t dare stop and continued talking. She didn’t know for how long she spoke until she noticed Song Youman’s head leaning on her shoulder.
"Youman? Youman?"
Xia Wan’an called out twice and reached out to check Song Youman’s breathing, confirming she had fallen asleep, then she breathed a sigh of relief.
However, the good tis didn’t last long; soone outside shouting during the card ga woke Song Youman.
Xia Wan’an quickly reached out to pat Song Youman’s back, "It’s okay, go back to sleep."
But Song Youman couldn’t sleep anymore.
It seed the people outside were no longer playing cards; they had started talking about serious matters.
"You said, when you went to catch that pregnant woman, how co you brought another one back?"
"Just happened to encounter her, couldn’t just let her go, right?"
"However, that girl you brought back... she’s quite pretty... hehe..."
Xia Wan’an felt Song Youman trembling beside her at this sinister laughter and quickly said, "They’re just talking, it’s okay."
"Talking... talking isn’t okay..." Song Youman barely squeezed out a few words.
"Alright, alright, even talking’s not okay. Once we escape, how about I hire five hundred strong n to beat them up for you?" Xia Wan’an promised obediently.
