After the deliveryman left, Xia Wan’an walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, stared downstairs for a while, and seeing the deliveryman greet Han Jingnian and leave, she then went downstairs again.
Xia Wan’an ca out of the elevator, and as she walked towards the entrance of the apartnt building, she unexpectedly ran head-on into Jingnian, who was just stepping into the building.
Upon seeing Xia Wan’an, Han Jingnian hesitated for a mont, a flash of surprise in his eyes, "Are you going out?"
Han Jingnian was quite good at acting; knowing she was about to go out, he was convincingly pretending to bump into her by accident...
That’s what Xia Wan’an was thinking, but the excuse she gave was even smoother than Jingnian’s, "Yes, I’m going to visit my parents, it’s been a few days since I last saw them. I thought I might take the upcoming weekend to visit them."
"I’ll drive you."
"No need, I’ve already called a cab, it’s just outside the complex..." Pausing, Xia Wan’an continued, "Oh yes, Zhang Te just called , saying he couldn’t reach you."
Han Jingnian subconsciously reached for his pocket before belatedly realizing he hadn’t brought his phone with him, "Oh, my phone ran out of battery."
She knew all too well. When she returned ho, she had seen his automatically powered-off phone on the bedside table due to a low battery... Beeing aware of his empty pocket, Xia Wan’an acted as if she hadn’t noticed, "In that case, go quickly and recharge your phone and contact Zhang Te, he may have an urgent matter to discuss?"
Han Jingnian gave a slight nod, "Please be careful on your way, and text when you arrive."
Xia Wan’an responded with a cheerful "Okay, okay", then waved goodbye to Han Jingnian, and they went their separate ways.
Returning ho, Han Jingnian first dug out his phone from the bedside table, then charged it in his study. After about five minutes, the phone automatically turned on, and a bunch of missed call notifications started popping up. Before he could even finish with the notifications, Zhang Te’s call ca in.
Han Jingnian swiped the screen to answer.
"Mr. Han, I’m glad you finally answered, Mr. Cheng has been waiting for you at the golf course for over an hour..."
Upon hearing this, Han Jingnian froze for a mont, then raised his hand to rub his temple.
He had unwittingly put his work completely out of his mind...
With those thoughts skimming through Han Jingnian’s mind, he paused, "Did I really just lose my cool like that?"
"What? Mr. Han, what are you saying?" Zhang Te, who had just been kicked out of the hospital by Xie Lin, happened to enter an elevator and did not hear what Han Jingnian said.
Han Jingnian ignored Zhang Te’s clamor, focusing his contemplative gaze on the desk, suddenly feeling a sense of realization.
He had beco so distracted and so unprofessional just because of her; he had forgotten about work, forgotten about clients, and forgotten about his indispensable phone. He had always thought her influence on him was huge, but he had never expected that she could have such an impact on him to the point that he would act so irrationally.
"Mr. Han, I just got in an elevator, what exactly were you saying?" Without waiting for Han Jingnian’s reply, Zhang Te spoke up again.
"It was nothing," replied Han Jingnian, coming back to his senses, "you return a call to Mr. Cheng, I’ll apologize and hurry over to et him."
"Okay, okay, and by the way, Mr. Han, I’ve already called the bodyguard arranged for the madam. He said he’ll rush back tonight from his hotown at the earliest..." Zhang Te, pausing as if realizing sothing, then asked abruptly, "Mr. Han, you spent all morning looking for soone. Did you personally go downstairs to intercept a package because the bodyguard wasn’t there to do it for the madam for you..."
Before Zhang Te could finish, Han Jingnian unceremoniously hung up the phone.
He had gone downstairs because the bodyguard had taken an ergency leave... He had indeed considered that as long as Chi Mu was in jail, there wouldn’t be a second threatening delivery. But it’s not that he was afraid of one in ten thousand, but what if... even if it was one in a billion chances, he couldn’t take the risk because it involved her.
