Xie Lin snapped back to consciousness. So, it turned out that CEO Han had been silent all this ti for this very reason...
"I asked, I asked, CEO Han, I even recorded it for you. Just give a mont, I’ll send it to you imdiately."
Just as Xie Lin finished speaking, the phone was hung up abruptly by Han Jingnian.
In a rush, Xie Lin went to find the recording. Just as he found it, another incoming call arrived on his phone. Once again, it was Han Jingnian. "Xie Lin, does your imdiate take so long?"
"CEO Han, it’s been less than half a minute. I just found the recording and was about to send it to you..."
Without uttering another word, Han Jingnian hung up.
Xie Lin opened WeChat, sent the recording to Han Jingnian and in the process of uploading, his phone rang once more. It was yet again Han Jingnian. "Why hasn’t it co through?"
"CEO Han, uploading takes ti due to internet speeds..."
"Trashy hospital, trashy internet." Han Jingnian hung up.
Xie Lin, listening to the sound of the call being terminated, had a troubled expression on his face: "..."
CEO Han, did you forget? This hospital is yours! Yours! Yours!
...
As Han Jingnian, who had been staring at Xie Lin’s WeChat page, saw the voice ssage being sent over, he imdiately clicked on play.
Xie Lin: "Madam, may I ask you a personal question?"
Xia Wan’an: "Dr. Xie, feel free to ask."
Xie Lin: "Madam, would you hate CEO Han because of this?"
Xia Wan’an: "Why would I? I’m just...heartbroken..."
Han Jingnian’s long, white fingers trembled slightly, almost dropping the phone onto his lap.
The recording was brief and finished quickly. He listened to it again, and again, becoming annoyed by the repetition of pressing play. He transferred the recording to the car stereo, choosing loop play.
"Madam, may I ask you a personal question?... Why would I? I’m just...heartbroken..."
As Han Jingnian lost count of how many tis he had played the recording, his phone rang. He glanced at the incoming call display. It was Xie Lin. He slid his finger across the screen to answer.
"CEO Han, did you receive the recording? Is the file intact? Any problems?"
Han Jingnian, no longer impatient as he was earlier awaiting the recording file, responded to Xie Lin in a more nonchalant manner: "Hmm."
"Then..." Over the phone, Xie Lin was about to say "Then I’ll stop disturbing you listening to the recording", but he stopped before he could finish: "CEO Han, can I ask you a question?"
Han Jingnian frowned and was about to reply ’you think?’, but upon hearing Xia Wan’an’s line "I’m just...heartbroken" through the car speakers, he abruptly fell silent.
Without uttering a word, Han Jingnian left Xie Lin in an anxious wait, fearing that he might not have agreed to his question. But after more than ten seconds passed without getting hung up, Xie Lin understood and hurriedly continued: "CEO Han, even though the dical records you had show to Mada have been tampered with, aren’t you afraid that soone might find out the truth that you feigned having a health issue, and you’ll be mocked?"
"Huh..." Han Jingnian scoffed dismissively: "If Wan’an doesn’t care, why should I bother about the outsiders?"
With that, Han Jingnian moved his phone slightly away from his ear, while at the sa ti increasing the volu of the car stereo significantly.
On the other end of the phone, Xie Lin, listening to his own conversation with Xia Wan’an, felt his stomach fill up with an inexplicable discomfort: "..."
Damn, he was just trying to be concerned about Han Jingnian, and now he was being fed this public display of affection?!
(I saw so comnts saying that the quarrel between Wan’an and Jingnian in the previous Chapters was lodramatic... How could it be lodramatic? It’s clearly a sweet interaction. Jingnian, being a straight man, only wants to protect his woman, while Wan’an wants to be with Jingnian both in good tis and bad. It’s just that our steel-hearted straight-man Jingnian simply doesn’t get the subtle romantic innuendos, taking the flirtatious words for real. I find it pretty cute and endearing.)
