Zhang Te thought that his mother had gone to the bathroom and casually called out, "Mom?"
No one replied.
Zhang Te frowned and raised his voice, "Old lady?"
Still, no reply.
Zhang Te had a strange feeling. He turned on the light in the master bedroom and walked to the bathroom door. He was about to call out, "Pretty girl?", but before he could say a word, the bathroom door surprisingly opened with just his knock.
Zhang Te peeked into the bathroom and found his mother was not there.
Where could she be so late at night? She’s not sleeping or in the bathroom.
Zhang Te stepped out of the master bedroom. He checked the living room and kitchen before searching his own room. After making sure his mother was nowhere to be found, he felt an inexplicable unease.
Subconsciously, he took out his phone to call his mother, but his mother’s phone was ringing from the master bedroom.
His mother wasn’t ho... and she didn’t even take her phone? That’s unusual.
While Zhang Te was puzzled, the phone in his hand suddenly rang.
Looking down, it was a call from an "Unknown" number.
Zhang Te hesitated for two seconds before answering the call. A voice, not quite male nor female, heavily laced with a chanical tinge, most likely a voice changer, ca through: "Zhang Cheng, hello."
Without waiting for Zhang Cheng to reply, the voice on the line said: "I assu you’re familiar with the voice you’re about to hear next."
Imdiately after, a woman’s voice echoed from Zhang Te’s phone: "Chengcheng, why did you send people to take to Thailand without consulting ?"
Thailand?
Zhang Te frowned and instinctively called out, "Mom." Before he could say anything else, the chanical voice rang again: "Zhang Cheng, you’d better not call the police, nor try any other ans in vain. Otherwise, I assure you that you won’t see your mother again."
Zhang Te held his phone tightly: "What the hell do you want?"
"You’ll find out what I want soon. I’d advise you not to waste your ti here. If my n don’t see you within half an hour, I promise the next ssage you receive will bring bad news about your mother."
Zhang Te: "Who the hell are you?!"
The person on the other end of the line seed to ignore Zhang Te’s question and continued: "Rember what I just said. Don’t call the police or attempt futile resistance, unless you’re willing to gamble with your mother’s life."
With that, the call ended.
The incoming call was specially processed and encrypted through the network, so Zhang Te had no clue about its origin or number.
Infuriated, he glared at the "Unknown" caller ID on his screen. In the end, with a stern face, he picked up his car keys and left ho.
In less than twenty minutes, Zhang Te parked his car in front of the KTV, as instructed. It seed as if soone was waiting for him nearby. The imdiate second he got out of the car, his phone rang — it was the sa "Unknown" number. The call was answered, and the sa chanized voice reverberated: "After entering the KTV, please go to private room 3."
"Also, please do not hang up my call. I have more instructions for you."
Zhang Te, who had never been threatened like this before, walked into the KTV with a stiff face, headed for room 3 as directed.
He pushed the door open...
