Xia Wan’an, returning ho, had finished half an hour of running, watered all the indoor plants, and then pulled the curtains to bathe.
After coming out, while Xia Wan’an was attending to her skin in front of the vanity, her phone began to ring.
She glanced at the caller ID; it was a strange number.
Could it be Han Jingnian calling her? Had he changed his phone number just so she would pick up?

A mature female voice was on the other end, "Hello, are you the owner of the houses 1, 2, and 3 in the Garden Cottage Building A?"

She had heard of telemarketers selling houses, but this was the first ti soone called to ask if she was selling any. Xia Wan’an was speechless for a mont, and then before the other person could finish speaking, she rejected, "Sorry, this house is not for sale."
One second after she hung up, her phone rang again.
It was still a strange number but different from the previous one.
Xia Wan’an, seeing the incessant calls, picked up, "Hello?"
This ti a young female voice was on the other end, her tone aloof and cool, "Hello, are you selling the house in Garden Cottage?"
"No!" Xia Wan’an thought it was the previous caller using a different number and putting up a cold front. She gave a curt reply and hung up.
Shortly after, her phone rang again, this ti from the first number. The mont she hung up, the second number called.
Xia Wan’an kept hanging up, but these two numbers kept calling.
Frustrated with the persistence of these two numbers, Xia Wan’an finally picked up one of the calls.
It was the first number that called: "Miss, I sincerely want to buy your house, na your price? No matter the amount, I will agree."
"Do you think I need money? I’ll say it again, my house is not for sale, not for sale, not for sale!"
Xia Wan’an said all that she wanted to express, and then hung up the phone.
As soon as she put down the phone, the second number called again.
She had just picked up and the aloof female voice began to speak: "I am willing to pay double the market price for your house, so could you sell it?"
Did she think that by changing numbers and speaking style, Xia Wan’an wouldn’t realize they were the sa person?
Being relentlessly bombarded by these two numbers, Xia Wan’an didn’t mince her words, exposing their pretense: "Don’t think I don’t know that you are using two phone numbers to badger to sell my house. I am telling you, when I say it’s not for sale, it’s not for sale!"
