Zhang Te glanced at the incoming call. It was from his BOSS.
His heart sank. He wanted to throw his phone in the trash, but he didn’t dare. Apologizing to the girl sitting across from him, he answered the call.
"Mr. Han, what can I do for you?"
"Alright, I’ll send it to you right now... Eh? There’s a problem with the contract? I’ll check now... Yes, yes, I understand... What? You think there’s sothing odd about your sll today? Not that I noticed... I didn’t notice anything off... Calm down, Mr. Han, give a mont to think..."
The girl sitting opposite Zhang Te was getting impatient with his never-ending call. She pulled a hundred bucks from her wallet, laid it on the table, grabbed her purse, and got up to leave.
Instinctively, Zhang Te reached out to stop the girl, but before he could even touch her, she stord away in anger.
Zhang Te wanted to wail in despair. It was the fifty-seventh ti! The fifty-seventh goddamn ti his blind date got screwed up because of Han’s calls or sudden ergencies!
...
The following day, Han Jingnian was up at seven, went for a jog, freshened up, changed clothes, and arrived at the office.
It was only half-past eight, but the entire executive office was already full.
As Han Jingnian stepped out of the private elevator, everyone beca significantly more restrained.
"Good morning, Mr. Han."
Without responding to their greetings, Han Jingnian, followed by Zhang Te, walked straight into his office, not sparing them a glance.
As he passed by Ai Jiang, who had just wished him a good morning, she spoke again: "Good morning, Mr. Han. Good morning, Mr. Zhang. Here are the data you asked for yesterday; I’ve finished compiling them."
Han Jingnian did not stop.
Following behind him, Zhang Te took the docunts from Ai Jiang: "Thank you, Secretary Ai."
"It’s my job, Mr. Zhang." Ai Jiang was demure, her eyes lowered, appearing coy and sweet.
Zhang Te didn’t reply. He took the docunts and followed Han Jingnian.
For so reason, Han Jingnian suddenly halted.
"Mr. Han?" Zhang Te asked, puzzled.
Han Jingnian did not answer. He seed deep in thought, then after a mont, turned and looked at Ai Jiang.
Ai Jiang, under Han Jingnian’s gaze, blushed and instinctively lowered her eyes to the desk. But the corner of her lips curved upwards, giving Han a bashful smile.
"Mr. Han, is there a problem?" Zhang Te inquired again.
Not making any notice of Zhang Te, Han Jingnian stepped back a few steps in surprise and stopped next to Ai Jiang.
Ai Jiang didn’t dare to look up at Han Jingnian; her heart was racing, blood boiling in her veins.
"Are you wearing perfu?" Han Jingnian’s voice was very cold.
Ai Jiang’s heartbeat stopped for a mont. She shook her head. "No."
Han Jingnian said nothing.
Ai Jiang stole a glance at Han Jingnian and then said, "It might be the sll of my skincare lotion."
"Could you write down the na of that lotion for , please? Thank you." Han Jingnian spoke again, his voice still cold.
"Alright." Nervously suppressing her racing heartbeat, Ai Jiang quickly grabbed a pen and a sticky note. She wrote down the brand of her lotion and handed it over to Han Jingnian.
Han Jingnian didn’t take it. Instead, he glanced at Zhang Te and walked away.
Zhang Te quickly took the sticky note from Ai Jiang and hurried after Han Jingnian.
Once inside his office, Zhang Te handed the sticky note to Han Jingnian: "Mr. Han, here’s what you asked for..."
Han Jingnian didn’t even look at the piece of paper. He curtly said, "I don’t want to see this brand anymore," before sitting down and turning on his computer.
As the computer screen lit up, Han Jingnian spoke again: "Also, tell that secretary to stay away from today."
