...
Xia Wan’an’s thoughts wandered back to that night again.
Two days had passed, and logically, many of her feelings should have faded, yet she couldn’t understand why she persistently felt that on the night she got drunk, soone had pulled her into their embrace and held her tightly.
She had ntioned this to Assistant Zhang Te and Song Youman; Assistant Zhang Te poured her a glass of hot water and asked her, with a face full of concern, whether she wanted to go ho and rest, while Song Youman thought she was rely muddled by her daydreams and beca extrely worried.
In reality, she also doubted herself, wondering if she mistook a dream for reality. That afternoon, she had indeed visited the cetery to pay respects to him; she had touched the icy tombstone with her own hands—he truly was no longer in this world. However, for so reason, she kept feeling that the embrace that night was not just a dream.
Xia Wan’an stared at the computer screen, zoning out yet again, to the point that she didn’t even notice Chen Qingtian entering the office.
"President Xia? President Xia?"
Chen Qingtian reached out and waved his hand in front of her eyes several tis before she finally snapped back to reality.
"These are the docunts that need your signature... Assistant Zhang Te has already reviewed them, and he said there are no issues... Also, these are upcoming etings, and these are the eting materials Assistant Zhang Te has prepared for you..." Chen Qingtian explained as he placed the docunts on Xia Wan’an’s desk one by one.
Xia Wan’an didn’t speak, just nodded slightly at Chen Qingtian to acknowledge she understood.
Chen Qingtian looked at Xia Wan’an like this, hesitated for a mont, and then spoke up again: "An’an, are you okay?"
Xia Wan’an still didn’t speak.
Chen Qingtian spoke again: "An’an, I know you are grieving, but the deceased has passed away, and the living must go on."
Finally, Xia Wan’an glanced at Chen Qingtian, and after a brief silence, she forced a weak smile: "I’m fine."
She knew Chen Qingtian cared about her, but so pains can’t just be soothed by concern. Before Chen Qingtian could say more, she spoke again: "You can go now."
Chen Qingtian humd a response and left her with a "Call if you need anything," then walked toward the office door. After a few steps, he stopped again: "Oh right, An’an, there’s sothing I’m not sure if I should tell you..."
Xia Wan’an looked at Chen Qingtian, silent.
"It was unintentional, I overheard it while I was going to the restroom... It’s about Su Ying... She was making a secretive phone call; I’m not sure who she was talking to, she ntioned ’boss’ and said she knew and would keep an eye out for you... Also sothing about trying to et you tomorrow..." Chen Qingtian said while gauging Xia Wan’an’s reaction. Upon noticing her frown, he knew she was interested in what he said and continued: "I don’t fully understand the aning of her words, but I always feel there’s sothing odd. Also, when she addressed the boss, her tone was very respectful. Who is that boss?"
Xia Wan’an didn’t answer Chen Qingtian’s question. Or rather, she too was curious about the boss Su Ying ntioned, "When did this happen?"
Chen Qingtian: "It happened this morning..."
Xia Wan’an fell silent again.
Chen Qingtian waited a while, then said: "President Xia, um, shall I leave now?"
"Okay," Xia Wan’an replied.
Chen Qingtian turned to leave, and as she walked out of the office and closed the door behind her, the corners of her lips curled into a peculiarly cold smirk.
