"If you really want to cultivate magic, then you must quickly find the elent closest to you," Evan said.
"Yes, I’ll try to figure it out slowly," Eric replied, knowing in his heart this couldn’t be rushed.
While the Dwarves were busy crafting farm tools, he decided to tackle another matter: making down comforters.
Everyone was quite idle in winter, and he didn’t want to "torture" himself with his terrible sewing skills anymore, so he sought help from the two most skillful won, Jessica and Iris.
The down from the Jin bird and the Winged Tiger was fluffy, light, and soft. It just needed to be washed clean to remove any strange sll.
Eric carefully spread layers of down onto the cotton cloth, while Jessica and Iris were responsible for sewing it up.
The two of them sewed very ticulously, the stitches tight and perfectly even, far sturdier than the first ti Eric and Max had struggled to make one together.
He unconsciously thought of the stitches that looked like a centipede crawling on that first comforter, and his face imdiately flushed. He was indeed genuinely clumsy.
"I never expected this kind of down could be made into a comforter. It feels so good to touch," Jessica held the newly completed comforter, rubbing it and exclaiming.
Iris also stroked the soft comforter lovingly: "This kid’s mind is really sharp, he can think of anything. This comforter is even softer than a cotton quilt, it must feel amazing to sleep under. I just don’t know if it’s warm enough."
Eric sat cross-legged on the bed, smiling as he explained: "It’s even warr. These birds rely entirely on this layer of down to stay warm in winter. How could it not be warm if we use it for a comforter?"
Hearing that, the two won had a sudden realization, and their gazes on the comforters beca even more fervent.
"That’s wonderful!" Iris said joyfully. "My cotton quilt at ho is very old. I was planning to trade for so cotton from those human rchants. This is great, now we just need to catch so wild chickens and ducks to make our own. Those people sell cotton at exorbitant prices, almost the sa price as good wine!"
As for Jessica, her emotion was even greater. In the past, the entire Snow Wolf tribe didn’t have a single quilt; they could only rely on animal hides to stay warm in winter. No matter how soft animal hides were, they couldn’t compare to the comfort of a cotton quilt, let alone this cloud-light down comforter.
The amount of down from the Winged Tiger wasn’t much, but luckily, the Jin bird was a mobile treasury.
After finishing two comforters for himself and Evan, plus two intended as gifts for Max and Michael, the remaining down was still enough to make two single-sized comforters for children.
Eric divided the remaining down between the two won, saying bashfully: "There’s a bit left, you two can divide it and make so for the kids. Wait until I catch more wild chickens and ducks, and I’ll give you more."
Iris was about to wave her hand to refuse, thinking she was just helping the kid with a few stitches, why would she accept a gift?
Seeing this, Eric quickly shoved the bag of down straight to Jessica: "Jessica, Iris, please accept it, don’t be polite. You two helped so much. Last ti, Max and I wrestled with it for ages just to finish one, and it was sewn so badly!"
Imagining the scene of two large n scratching their heads while fumbling with sewing, Iris and Jessica both burst out laughing.
"Alright then, since Eric is being so kind, we’ll accept," Jessica said cheerfully. "We’ll split it when we get ho and make one for each of the kids."
Seeing that Iris had agreed, the two were about to leave when Eric suddenly slapped his head and ran back into the storage room, hugging a bolt of cotton cloth:
"Oh, right! It’s best to use cotton cloth for down comforters so the down doesn’t leak. Hemp cloth is too coarse. I traded for quite a lot this year, please take this and use it."
This ti, even Jessica refused adamantly: "No, absolutely not! Eric, I can’t accept this. Cotton cloth is very expensive; it takes so many magic cores to trade for. That down was already more than enough."
Iris pushed the bolt of cloth even further away: "I still have enough cloth at ho to make a comforter for Robin. Accepting that down was already a huge gain for us!"
Seeing that Eric wouldn’t give up, Iris decided to bolt. After speaking, she turned and fled, just like a nimble dwarf rabbit:
"Jessica, you use it first! Just bring the remaining down over to !"
She ran so fast Eric couldn’t even call out in ti.
Why are all the Dwarves like this? Eric’s head was full of dark lines. Short legs but they run so fast, and such hasty tempers...
This ti, Eric had experience. Seeing Jessica was also preparing to flee, he moved quickly to block her path, shoving the bolt of cloth straight into her arms.
"Co on, Jessica, please don’t refuse anymore. You and Grass are always helping . A bolt of cotton cloth is nothing." He did his best to persuade her: "Besides... don’t you want Flower to sleep more comfortably?"
Hearing her daughter ntioned, Jessica’s resolve wavered for a mont. Ever since Eric’s new house was built, Flower ca ho every day gushing about the warm earthen bed and the cloud-soft comforter. As a mother, who wouldn’t want their child to have the best?
After thinking for a mont, she still shook her head: "No. You’re still just a cub. It’s already impressive that you can take care of yourself and Leo. How can I accept things from you?"
Eric truly hated this kind of back-and-forth refusal.
He said helplessly: "How about this? Leo doesn’t have new clothes for this year. I have the cloth, but I don’t know how to sew. Jessica, you help sew a few warm outfits for Leo, and while you’re at it, make the comforter for Flower. We can consider it an exchange for labor. How about that?"
Only after hearing this did Jessica hesitate for a mont, then nod in agreent.
