Lyse was admiring the flowers which were blooming in the garden, her focus montarily diverted from her own troubles, when she noticed a familiar car drive into the compound and an equally familiar figure step out of the car and step into the building. Her breath hitched in her throat as she recognized who it was, It was the most unexpected guest, it was Levi.

A wave of irritation washed over her, quickly followed by a surge of anger. What was he doing here? Had she not made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with him? His audacity was infuriating. She quickly made her way inside and waited.

She watched as he approached, her arms crossed tightly across her chest, her expression hardening. She was prepared to give him a piece of her mind, to demand that he leave her alone.

"Why are you here Levi?" She asked in hushed tones, her expression irritated. "I told you that this thing between us..." She gestured to the both of them, "is over."

Levi sighed and looked at her patiently. However, before ge could say a word in his defense, Vanessa, approached them both, her face lighting up with a warm smile.

"Mr Van Doren!" Vanessa exclaid, her voice filled with genuine enthusiasm. "It is so good to see you! We were wondering when you would be able to make it. I see Lyse’s presence here has forced you to co."

Lyse froze, her anger montarily dissipating, replaced by a wave of confusion. Vanessa was speaking to Levi as if she knew him on a personal level? And she seed genuinely happy to see him.

Levi glanced montarily at Lyse before returning to Vanessa, he smiled warmly at her, his gaze softening. "It is good to be here, Vanessa," he said, his voice sincere. "I am so sorry that it took so long to get away from work."

"And you are right, i could not bear to be even a day away from Lyse." He added.

Vanessa waved her hand dismissively. "Nonsense," she said. "We understand that you are a busy man. But the children have been so excited to et you."

She gestured towards the play area, where a group of children were playing with toys. "They have heard so much about you," she added.

Lyse stared at them, her mind reeling. This was completely unexpected. She had assud Levi had co to see her, to try to reconcile, to... she did not even know what she had expected. But this... this was completely different.

She watched as Levi walked towards the children and lowered himself on the mat with them, he interacted with them, his face softening into a genuine smile as he played with them, read them stories, and listened to their excited chatter. He seed completely at ease, completely focused on the children, as if she was not even there.

A strange feeling washed over Lyse, a mixture of confusion, surprise, and... sothing else. Sothing that felt suspiciously like... jealousy? She quickly pushed the thought away, scolding herself for even considering it.

She had broken things off with Levi on her own accord. She had made her choice. So, she should not care what he did or who he spent his ti with.

But despite her efforts to remain detached, she could not help but watch him.

She observed his interactions with the children, the genuine warmth and affection he displayed. It was a glimpse into him as a father, a side of him that she had never seen, a side that made her heart ache with a longing she did not realize was residing within her.

To make matters worse, he was not paying even a bit of attention to her, it was like she did not even exist. His attention was focused on the children, it was obvious that they were what he was here for and not her.

She had been prepared for a confrontation, a heated argunt, his insistence on her returning to him, possibly even his use of emotional blackmail, that she would have dealt with. But this... this casual indifference, this complete lack of attention directed towards her, was far more unsettling. She felt ignored, dismissed, as if she was invisible.

The feeling gnawed at her, a strange mix of irritation and hurt. She wanted to scream at him, to demand his attention, to remind him of the pain he had caused her. But she held back, reminding herself that she had asked for this distance, this separation.

Vanessa, noticing Lyse’s quiet observation of Levi, approached her, her expression concerned.

"Is alright, Lyse?" she asked, her voice gentle.

Lyse forced a smile, trying to mask her inner turmoil. "Yes," she said, her voice carefully neutral. "Everything is great."

Vanessa’s brow furrowed. She had known Lyse for a long ti, and she could sense that sothing was troubling her.

"But, you seem a little... distracted," Vanessa said, her eyes searching Lyse’s face. "Is it about Levi? Did sothing happen between you two? Is that why you ca here?"

Lyse hesitated, then sighed. She knew she could not continue to hide her feelings from Vanessa. She was one of the few people she truly trusted.

"The truth is that Levi and I are separated." Lyse explained.

Vanessa stiffened and glanced at Levi before looking back at Lyse in concern. "Do you want to throw him out?" She asked, horrified at the thought that she had allowed the man who hurt Lyse co into this space where she was treating Kiks a haven.

"No, don’t worry about that... I’m sure the children would be so disappointed. Plus, he did not hurt that way." Lyse hurriedly reassured her.

"It’s... it’s just, I thought that he ca here to see ," Lyse admitted, her voice barely a whisper. "I was so angry. I was ready to tell him off."

Vanessa nodded understandingly. "I can see why you would think that," she said. "But he has been planning this visit for weeks. He has been a very generous donor to the shelter, and he promised he would co and spend so ti with the children."

Lyse’s eyes widened in surprise. "He is a donor?" she repeated, her voice laced with disbelief.

Vanessa nodded. "Yes," she confird. "He’s the one I was speaking about yesterday, he has been incredibly supportive. He’s the one who funded the renovations, the new furniture, the new play area. He’s been a real blessing to this place."

Lyse stared at Levi, her mind reeling. She had completely misjudged the situation. She had assud he was there to tornt her, to intrude on her space. But he was there for the children, for the shelter, for a cause she herself deeply cared about.

A wave of sha washed over her. She had been so quick to judge him, so quick to assu the worst. She had allowed her anger and hurt to cloud her judgnt.

"I... I didn’t know," she stamred, her voice barely audible.

Vanessa placed a comforting hand on Lyse’s arm. "I’m sorry, I assud you knew," she said gently. "He only started donating after he ca here to see you, so I thought he did it because you had asked him."

She paused, her eyes eting Lyse’s. "But you should not let your personal issues with Levi affect your perception of his actions here," she added. "I believe that he is genuinely trying to help."

Lyse nodded slowly, her gaze still fixed on Levi. He was still playing with the children, his face lit up with a genuine smile. He seed completely oblivious to her presence, completely absorbed in the mont.

A strange feeling washed over Lyse, a mixture of admiration, regret, and a deep sense of longing. She had pushed him away, had declared their relationship over. But seeing him here, seeing his genuine kindness and generosity, made her question her decision. Had she been too hasty? Had she made a mistake?

She knew that she had a lot to think about. She needed to reconcile the man she had loved with the man who had betrayed her. And she needed to decide if she could ever forgive him. But for now, she would simply observe, watch him interact with the children, and try to understand the complex man who had once told the world that he was her husband.

Despite all that she told herself, the feeling of being ignored by him was unexpectedly painful, a stark reminder of the love that he had claid to have for her. How could he say that he loved her one mont and the next he seemingly did not care.

She frowned as she asked herself what she was doing. Why was she so eager to be acknowledged and noticed by her? Had he suddenly beco more attractive to her because he no longer wanted her or was the fact that she was seeing him in another light making him more appealing to her?
