I Just Wanted Friends, But My Summons Keep Eating the Bosses (ND) Chapter 20 - A Friend or A Foe
Sara quickly sat back down in her chair and looked at Nightmare—no, Night—again. The reason she was so startled was because of the current situation.
He looked completely harmless, yet at the sa ti, carried an undeniable aura of danger. Plus, he had just casually nad himself after the legendary [Nightmare].
One didn’t exactly need a wild imagination to assu the worst.
But she quickly regained her composure.
"So, Night... where did you co from? Who are you? And don’t try to lie to ; I can see there is sothing powerful hidden within you. Just explain everything honestly. I will keep your secret; as long as it’s not sothing hectic, like a huge magical ritual demanding a city-wide sacrifice or sothing."
Just as Night thought things were getting back on track, he was stupefied all over again.
A city-wide sacrifice?
I take it back, is she nuts?
Who made her the headmaster?
What if it was only a small-scale sacrifice?
Would she be okay with that?!
First Lucy liking to eat her at raw, and now this.
Maybe he was the weird one for actually having basic moral standards.
He only had the mories of this life and his past life and he had practically been a saint in his previous life. He never tried to think negatively or even get angry at anyone, as both would reduce his energy. He simply accepted any situation as it is and never let any situation to control him.
He was always in charge of his thoughts and emotions. He had not given anyone the right to influence his thoughts and emotions not even his family and friends.
Heck he had even practiced strict celibacy; never even taking matters into his own hands (wink wink) because releasing that energy would reduce his awareness while ditating.
He was basically a monk with hair. Heck, he had even shaved his head once just to see if it would boost his cultivation.
The Ghost was fine since he was a typical villain, but repeatedly seeing "normal" people act like this was definitely a new experience.
He looked at her weirdly and hurriedly clarified, "No sacrifices."
He sighed and began to explain everything. Despite Lucy’s earlier warning, he knew there was no getting out of this situation without exposing most of his secrets. Besides, his [Beast Instinct] skill suggested that being honest was the best move here.
And that skill had already saved his life twice—thrice, if you counted Lucy becoming his summon and boosting his overall strength.
So, he told her everything, starting from the very mont he gained awareness in the facility.
Sara listened attentively. This ti, she didn’t react wildly or change her expression, even though it was obvious many things bothered her. Her brows furrowed deeply when he recounted the horrific experints and how Death had died.
It only took an hour to finish the whole story as he just skipped the repetitive parts.
When he was done, she closed her eyes. After a long mont of silence, she opened them and made a request he completely didn’t expect.
"Can you show the corpse of the assassin?"
Surprised, Night complied. He had never tried taking a corpse out of his domain before, but he figured he could try. He focused on the sa feeling he had when he devoured the bodies, only in reverse.
It worked much easier than he thought.
The corpse materialized on the floor. It was barely recognizable; most of it had already been dissolved by his skill.
Surprisingly, the sight didn’t cause much of a reaction in him this ti; just a slight urge to vomit, but that was it. Even though he wasn’t constantly staring at it in his mind, the sheer awareness that he was slowly digesting a human corpse had numbed him to the horror pretty quickly.
As they say, the first ti is always the hardest.
Sara wasn’t disgusted in the slightest.
She summoned a magical to that floated beside her, its pages flipping open automatically. As she muttered a string of gibberish incantations, glowing grey characters began to manifest in the air, swirling around the mangled corpse.
Snap. The book shut after soti, she then put it away.
With a deep frown, she said, "This person was the puppet of a Devil."
She continued, "The Devil must have sensed sothing unusual about you and made a move. It doesn’t seem to be physically strong, but it clearly has a terrifying perception skill to have detected you, as well as a high-tier stealth skill to hide from Rogan’s senses."
"The only reason I even sensed the anomaly around you was because of the Academy’s powerful magic circle."
Her frown deepened. "For a Devil to sense you from afar through a puppet ans it has a very high innate talent. Letting it roam free in this city is a massive risk. We must eliminate it imdiately."
She looked at Night with an approving gaze. "Because of your contribution in bringing this to our attention, I will grant you a private residence next to my residence, as well as imdiate admission into the Academy as a reward."
She looks like she’s just fishing for excuses to admit and keep close, Night thought.
The Devil might be special, but Night’s intuition told him an entity like that would be quick work in the hands of soone as strong as Sara.
She added, "You will also receive the basic scholarship given to children from commoner backgrounds, which should take care of your small daily expenses."
Night knew when soone was genuinely looking out for him. He bowed his head slightly and thanked her.
He collected the corpse back into his domain, leaving the office floor sparkling clean, and quickly checked his EV.
[Energy Value (EV) - 1891]
He gauged that he was gaining around 100 EV an hour from devouring the human.
Sara then took out a magical device that looked suspiciously like a pager, typed sothing into it, and smiled. "I have inford the administration team. And don’t worry, unlike that sloppy rogan, I keep my promises."
"In the Academy, your safety is absolutely assured—unless sothing that can easily overpower cos knocking. And although it’s been a while since I actively leveled up in the field, I’ve been passively gaining levels all these years. I am no pushover."
She said it with absolute confidence.
Unlike the boasting of the Bald Old man, Night actually believed her.
For so reason, despite only eting her an hour ago, she felt like soone he could truly trust.
She then placed her hand on his shoulder, and they teleported once again.
